Brass Measurement: 39 1/2" Wide x 19 1/2" Deep x 21" Tall Condition: Very Good Vintage Attributes: This is a 1940's era storage or steamer trunk. It is crafted in wood. Painted navy blue on the outside. It features wrap around decorative brass hardware on the top and bottom edges of the trunk itself and on the four corners of the top, please refer to photos for detail. There are two wide decorative brass bands running up the front of the trunk and the lid, across the top of the lid, and down the back of the trunk, all held in place with tiny brass nails. The lid is hinged in the back, all hardware is brass. The front lid features two brass tabs which fold down onto the locking pins. Steampunk Trunk Kit Vintage Brass Plated Hardware w/Leather Handles
This trunk hardware and leather handles are from the early 1970s. The patina on the brass is from their age. The leather handles are 9 3/4" long and three ply at 5/16" thick. There are 8 corners. 20 knees, 1 Long lock w/key, 2 large rectangular draw downs, 2 handles, 4 handle clamps, 2 hinges, and 2 lid stays. This is a similar list of hardware and handles used to build the trunk in the second photo(from 1974) thought seeing the finished product with similar hardware would help. TRUNK NOT INCLUDED, this item is the HARDWARE KIT ONLY. I can draw up the plans for that one if it would help a project. I handmade the metal trim from sheet aluminum and cut the bows from 3/4" X 2 1/4" oak that I split and rounded the edges of each half on a table router, pretty easy stuff. Constructed of wood and metal. As you can see it has some character, and wear. The name plate is still attached securely. I tried to find other American Hardware chests, but could not. This is a really neat heavy cast metal lock/latch which I believe came off a very old steamer trunk of sorts. It's in good used vintage condition with some surface wear and tarnish and I believe a tiny crack by the bottom bolt that you can't see from the front and doesn't seem to affect its use whatsoever.please view pictures for any further description/condition. Refinished antique steamer trunk circa late 1890’s. Early 1900’s with original hardware. This has a wonderful flat top surface, perfect use for a table or at the bottom of a bed. Plus it is nice and roomy, excellent for extra storage. The inside has been stripped of the original paper. Brass colored hardware and front lock, no key. The wood has been finished in a nice warm medium pine color with a not to shiny, not to dull, just right finish. The metal hardware has not been repainted, only cleaned. Antique REFINISHED Flat Top Steamer Travel Trunk Wooden Chest Original Hardware
Refinished antique wooden steamer trunk circa late 1890’s. Early 1900’s with original hardware. This has a wonderful flat top surface, perfect use for a table or at the bottom of a bed. Plus it is nice and roomy, excellent for extra storage. The inside has been stripped of the original paper. Brass colored hardware and front lock, no key. Original handles in tact, which is rare as most broke off over time. The wood has been finished in a nice warm medium pine color with a not to shiny, not to dull, just right finish. The metal hardware has not been repainted, only cleaned. I like to leave the hardware in its found state. Rear hinges are in working order and original inside hardware holds lid up perfectly. There is a stress crack on the top, normal for antiques trunks as they were packed and then stacked for traveling. The bottom shows some ... morewear. ANTIQUE TRUNK~DATED 1938 by AMERICAN HARDWARE CO.~75 YEARS OLD & COUNTING~SWEEET
Going through the many. Many items that I inherited, that were stored in an air conditioned storage down here in Florida, I found a very rare find: an antique 1938 trunk. This trunk has a brass plate mounted on the top that is marked: American Hardware Company, Inc.~Contract W199~Q.M.16534~September 23, 1938~Spec. No.23798~Stock No.26-L-294~Chicago Q. M. Depot" This trunk also has a front brass lock that looks like it may have had an old fashioned skeleton key that was used to open it(sorry, but I couldn't find the key) and this lock is marked"Eagle Lock Co.~Terryville, Conn.~Made in U.S.A. This trunk measures 31" wide, 14"t all, and 17" deep. On the inside of this this trunk there is a lift-out two-compartment box that to me looks like it is made out of oak or possibly a rough cedar, and it measures 29-1/2" ... morex 15-3/4" x 5" deep. One amazing thing about this trunk, especially for being over 75 years old, is that everything is tight and, again for being over 75 years old, this trunk is in amazingly good condition with only two faults: one is that both of the leather straps have broken off because of age, and about the only other major mark is a scratch on the top(as per my pictures) that is right above the brass American Hardware Company plate. THEY JUST DON'T MAKE ITEMS LIKE THIS ANYMORE THAT HAVE BEEN USED FOR 75 YEARS AND STILL HAVE 200 TO 300 YEARS LEFT IN THEM! When I mentioned that everything looks to be tight: this trunk has hundreds of rivets, metal corners, latches, etc. etc. and nothing is loose or damaged. All there is on the metal is patina. I myself if I were to keep this trunk I would have all the metal professionally finished and that way this trunk would come out fantastic. But in the past my buyers and watcher have sent me notes saying: DO NOT POLISH OLD BRASS OR GET RID OF THE PATINA" I am also keeping the shipping down very low compared to what other trunks for sale are charging and considering this trunk weighs almost 38 pounds. Brass hardware includes: one main lock(missing key) Two large draw bolt locks, corner and center brass reinforcers/corner protectors.and two leather handles which appear newer/replaced. AMAZING VINTAGE GENUINE LEATHER TRUNK/ CASE WITH BRASS HARDWARE- This stunning piece is approximately 35.5" wide x 20.5" tall x 9.5" deep. It is made of thick rich genuine leather with a gorgeous patina in hues ranging from brown to cognac to tan. It has two wooden skids on the back for protection. And it comes with a removable tan canvas cover and a pair of long leather straps that wrap all the way around the bag. The straps are damaged, and one of them is torn so it no longer fits all the way around the case. I would recommend replacing the straps. There is a lovely dark blue fabric interior lining. And t here are two functional brass hardware latches on this trunk. The central latch was removed from the case at some point. A previous owner installed 4 small steel casters on the bottom of this trunk in the style of a pullman suitcase. Antique Louis Vuitton Trunk Hardware
Up for bid are authentic Louis Vuitton solid brass trunk parts that I salvaged from the remains of an old trunk. The parts need a thorough cleaning and polishing. Most parts. Except for the handles and latches show the wear from handling over the years. There are around 100 brass top nails that I removed from the trunk. The trunk was so well made that I had to cut some of the nails off but they can still be used for decorative parts.
