I believe from air plane panels. The quality is military over-build which is very durable and tough. On the top of this trunk a hole punched stencil reads'Major Ben W. Hunsaker. M.A.T.S. Andrews A.F. Base, Wash. D.C. M.A.T.S. stands for Military Air Transport Service. Activated on 1 June 1948. M.A.T.S was a consolidation of the United States Navy Naval Air Transport Service(NATS) and the United States Air Force Air Transport Command(ATC) into a single, joint, unified command. It was inactivated and discontinued on 8 January 1966 when the Air Force and Navy set up separate strategic airlift commands. There is a red metal tag riveted to the front reading'KOWA Industry' and leather carry handles at both ends. Two latches and a locking mechanism secure the trunk. Matching KOWA key is included. As you can see in the photos the trunk is in good vintage condition with normal wear consistent with age and it’s use. All which adds to the character of the piece. 1933 Footlocker Trunk Civilian Conservation Corps CCC FDR Work Relief Program
FROM THE SINGLE. GREATEST CONSERVATION PROJECT IN AMERICA. ITEM DESCRIPTION: This is an actual footlocker owned by one of the men who was part of Franklin D. Roosevelts New Deal work relief program. Much can be found on Google about this. This trunk is quite unique. As it had the names of the men in the barracks written on the wood in pencil. The first name, which might have been the owner was A. Tursici of West Bridgewater, Mass. This was# 116 Company of Millers Falls Massachusetts They were located 3 miles from Wendell State Forest. The program was developed to preserve Americas natural resources. We were able to date the locker from the#116. The Civilian Conservation Corps(CCC) was a public work relief program that operated from 1933 to 1942 in the United States for unemployed. Unmarried men from relief families, ages 18–25. A part of ... morethe New Deal of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, it provided unskilled manual labor jobs related to the conservation and development of natural resources in rural lands owned by federal, state and local governments. The CCC was designed to provide employment for young men in relief families who had difficulty finding jobs during the Great Depression while at the same time implementing a general natural resource conservation program in every state and territory. Maximum enrollment at any one time was 300.000; in nine years 2.5 million young men participated. Reserve officers from the U.S. Army were in charge of the camps, but there was no military training or uniforms. This item weighs approx.50 pounds. Captain's U.S. Army Trunk (Footlocker) WWII APO Hawaii with tray
Labeled APO 959[ Hawaii] Capt. Heyward M. McAnallen"Joining the United States Army Air Corps in 1940. He was stationed at Hickam Field, Hawaii on December 07, 1941. He later served in North Africa and England. Following World War II he was stationed in Japan, Germany, and various bases in the United States. He retired in 1970 after thirty years of service. There is no damage to this trunk apart from wear and tear involved in moving it around the world. I take that back- the leather straps are broken. But the tray is like new and the wooden bottom is completely intact. It smells nice. The paper address labels have a kind of extra blue adhesive underneath, but, I have not tried to remove or clean them off. Posted with Posted with

Several nails have been hammered inside the lid(see pics) One latch is missing(see pics) Dovetail like construction(but NOT dovetail) Name engraved is Hachiro Kita. There is some writing on the front of the box in(I think) indelible marker. I'm not certain what the inscription means(if anything) My guess is that this was used during the period when the U.S. created'camps' for the Japanese that lived in the States during the war. Did some brief internet research on Hachiro Kita and it looks as though he may have lived in Colorado during that time. None of this information is confirmed. However. If you have any insight. Please share. Great historical piece of Japanese history. Box weighs just under 20 ... morelbs and is approximately 17" high X 17 1/4" wide X 17 1/4" deep. This is in fair condition and the most unique retro pattern I've ever come across on a trunk. The pattern is orange. 3 shades of green, and black. There is also a unique texture to the exterior of the trunk with embossed floral pattern that is separate from the printed color floral pattern. The trunk still has both original handles. The latches both work but sometimes you need to use a bit of muscle to open them as they stick a bit. The inside mechanism for the lock is missing. The bottom of the trunk has some deeper scratches then the rest of the trunk. There are minor scratches through out the trunk as well as shown. Some hardware pieces show ... moresome rust. WWI Army Aircorps Soldiers Foot Locker* World War 1 Steamer Trunk Produced between 1916 and 1922 by Belber Trunks This particular trunk belonged to a young man who registered with the United States Army in 1916 His name was A.J. Dagenais(Arthur Joseph) When he came home from the war. It was to Laconia N.H. I researched this American Soldier as much as I could. It looks like he was held as a P.O.W. But was later brought home alive. I believe. According to the information that I found online, that he was buried at Arlington. I don't know if the info is 100% accurate, but I did spend the time, and If the info that I found was accurate, Mr. Dagenais was a very brave young man. I have had the trunk for a while. And really hate to part with it, however, It would be best if it went to a home where it could be more properly displayed. It is nearly ... more100 years old. And has markings of many traveled miles. It is structurally in fantastic condition. And has all of the metal trim, lock, etc. The leather straps are original and intact The black paint may be original paint. As there is some peeling. You can see where the stickers were. There are plenty of scratches. Dings, and dents, and it has that fantastic old smell. Not mildewy, but old. Like old wood and books. Its about 31" Wide. 12 3/4" High, and almost 17" Deep The story of the soldier has taught me quite a bit about the war. And I hope that the next owner will be able to gain something from it as well. All of the men who served in that war are now passed. But their stories live on.

We provided some history behind the footlocker: The owner of the footlocker was WWII Army PFC and Military Police Edward Brezofski. Edward was known as the Paul Newman of Danbury Connecticut as many confused his looks and charm with the late actor. The honorable Edward Brezofski was an American Second Generation Polish descent born in the 1920's and served our country and fought in WWII. He was stationed in Germany and Occupied Japan. He was layed to rest with honors in 1998 in Danbury Connecticut where he lived. As you can see in the picture the Footlocker is in beautiful condition;it has some wear and the key is missing. however it has a lock pad with a key. We did not ... moredo any repairs or adjustments to the Footlocker and was gently dusted. Measurements- 31" W x 17" D x 14" T weighs approx. 18 lbs. This is an early wood Military type footlocker trunk. This is what what they had at the end of their bed and stored their personal items in. Can be used for storage. All original, metal brackets, hinges, locks, and bolts can be seen flowing throughout the entirety of this piece. The settle your gaze upon the flat top lid which flows down to a sturdy square body. Reinforced edges complete this piece to perfection. It measures 12" tall. 31 1/8" wide, and 16 1/8" deep. It is sturdy and in good condition. They show some wear. One is locked.
