In New York State the Henry Likly trunk company was the largest factory of its time. Located at 340 Lyell Ave in Rochester N.Y. the factory covered two acres of land. The drawers lock into place and are lined, wood on the outside. The top drawer has a key lock(not included) When you pull out the drawer, there is a leaver that you turn which unlocks the other drawers. The wardrobe side includes the hangers shown(5) and the top opens to ease in getting the hangers out. the metal slats for the hangers to slide out as well, however the right one is hard to push. Has a fabric cloth to cover the clothes from the drawers. This is a large heavy truck, but in pretty good shape for it's age and the number of trips it has taken over the years. The top(picture 6) shows the rip in the fabric. Has two tags on it. First is the Hartman Trunk co, Racine, WI. The other is on the corner and says Wasseman's, Grand Rapids, MI. That means this trunk went from the United States to Germany, then to Scotland and back to the United States. Measures 40" tall, 22" wide and 21 1/2" deep. Shipping is quoted with UPS. Hinged to reveal a fitted dimension as shown above. We searched extensively on the internet to find information about this piece of history and all we could find is as explained below: Hirschfelder& Meaney was established in 1893. With offices and salesrooms at No. 22 Sutter Street. Its factory was located at Twentieth and Florida streets in San Francisco and covers an area of eleven thousand square feet. The San Francisco Call Newspaper of November 16th 1911 listed their address to be on 519 Market Street and another internet search revealed they moved to Battery Street around 1913. Hirschfelder& Meaney was also listed in the 1926 San Francisco chamber of commerce publication as a chest maker with address at 36 battery street San Francisco. Earlier edition of same publication published in 1910 listed same company’s address to be 519 Market Street There are documentations published between 1910 and 1926 that made reference to this company. I have not seen any reference to the company after 1926. This however does not mean one is not out there and for this reason we listed this chest as mid to early 1920. Please do your research to get more information about this vintage chest. We have supplied all the information we had as of the time of listing. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. They were built with quality and built to last, which is why they have stood the test of time! The craftsmanship that went into the construction and design of theses ole’ trunks are truly nothing short of spectacular. I recently discovered this wardrobe trunk buried in the rafters in the attic of a local farm house estate in a in nearby town. It stopped me dead in tracks and I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor! There was no way I was leaving without this trunk. And lucky for me I had hubby to carry it out of the attic and down 3 flits of stairs! And now for the decription… This is a nice authentic period Wardrobe steamer trunk. It is signed on the exterior by the maker Oshkosh Trunk Company. I am unsure of the exact age. But it was clearly left where I had found it for a very very long time. If I had to guestimate I would say it is likely from the early 20 th century. It measures 40 x 22 x 20 inches and weighs 75 pounds respectfully. The exterior is covered with what appears to be a volcanized material with dozens of original brass. Nails, knobs Hinges, Lock and hardware. The lock comes with key and functions as designed. On the interior right side. The trunk has 5 wood drawers with original deco drawer pulls and covered in swanky antique fabric. This beautiful French Vellum Trunk. With its incredible character and elegance, sailed on the Queen Elizabeth from New York to an unknown destination. Measuring 35" long, 20 1/2" wide, and 13 1/2" deep, the exterior has the original solid wood banding and polished chrome latches and hardware. Engraved on the lock is the word"Surete" which is french for"security" Its edges are protected with original rawhide trim secured by silver nail heads. There is a wonderful original vintage tag from the Cunard Line and an old travel decal. Circa 1920's. This French Trunk is in good condition with minimal wear from age and use. The interior has 2 working cloth straps and is clean with no issues or musty smell. The trunk has the original leather handles, but one has a split in part of the leather. Hi up for auction I have an antique Hartmann Gibralterized travel steamer trunk. These trunks were designed to travel on ships or rail systems. This trunk dates from the 1920's to 1930's. It is very heavy and large. Measures: 20 x22 x 40 5/8. And has a weight of 95 pounds. The trunk has some nice labels on it. Has a piece of masking tape on one side that reads" Los Angeles" The trunk has no keys or hangers. I thought this would make a great coffee or end table. This trunk was in storgae for over 60 years. For Sale I have this fantastic Vintage Travel Chest measuring 20.5 inches across. 16.5 inches wide, and 15 inches deep, and made by the Flaxite Foundation circa. 1920, so British Made, and probably tied in with the Papworth Industries who I think made them, and another suitcase I listed earlier. This is a great rectangular box shape. Very sturdy and solid, internally and externally lined with flax, with thick leather corner protectors& an incredibly solid leather handle. The outer covering is a lovely well worn brown colour, with solid bronzed clasps that work perfectly, but are sadly without keys. Internally is a clear cream check. This is a very well used packing case. And shows masses of wear and character. It has"U. S. in large black letters on two sides, and would look ideal on a western stagecoach, or paddle steamer.

This old wardrobe steamer trunk is from the 1920's era. It no doubt carried clothing. Documents, and treasures for fellows like Gatsby himself or a passenger on the Titanic. An original nail file was found tucked away in one of its drawers waiting to be found by generations later. The 8 drawers are linen lined. And I think the briefcase is as well. The top of the wardrobe area opens up to reveal a majestic deep purple velvet material. There is a lever behind the drawers that keeps the drawers from opening up during transportation. VINTAGE STEAMER TRUNK - CIRCA 1920'S - 1930'S - WONDEROBE SEWARD
This is a upright Steamer Trunk by"Seward Trunk and Bag Company" The plaque says"Wonderrobe" Estimated that it was made during the 1920"s or 1930's. The original trunk color was olive green but has changed over the years to a soft brown. It has all of its accessories including the hat form that snaps in and out to hold a fashion hat in place which was a bonus during it's day. There are six hanging racks. Two for dresses. Two for coats and two for slacks. They are held in place by a stabilizer bar. The bottom of the left side of the trunk has a pop out drawer. The top drawer is sectioned and has the lock but no key. The top of the trunk lifts to allow easy access to the racks. See photo#5. Two of the drawers have the tie down straps to hold clothing in place. The lock is missing as well as the leather handle. ... moreAll of the metal(brass? edges are in excellent shape. No dents. No missing bullets and it has all of its corner pieces. Most of these trunks are missing the leather handle but I do have the handle which is not attached. All of the hardware is in good condition not rusted or broken. The main lock is missing. The only damage is to the top which is cracked mostly on the edge which lifts up. see photo#8) The fabric on the drawers shows some wear but just to the right edges. See photo#1. For your information I received this trunk from the woman we bought our first house from 38 years ago. She told us that her husband traveled across the ocean with all his belongings in this trunk. 1920's OSHKOSH STEAMER WARDROBE TRAVEL TRUNK CHEST Ironing Board PIN CUSHION
Stands about 42 tall x 26 x 23 inches. It has a last patent date of 1923. It has six drawers. One drawer has an iron holder insert and there is also an original large pin cushion that came with this trunk. Each drawer is unique with various partitions and tie downs. There are telescoping rods for the many various original hangers. There is also a removable latching box. Pretty clean inside with very light wear. The top leather handle is broke. Some minor scuffs, scratches, paint drops present. No holes or big dents. The key lock looks as if it was pried open, but it still latches the trunk shut when rotated. No key. weighs around 90 pounds. You can set up the shipping if you would like, and i could pacakage it for a small fee.

This trunk was made to fit under the seats on a steam train(hint steamer trunk) I installed new double ply stitched leather handles. very strong) made by local amish here in central PA. Also the leather straps and buckles are new and fully functional. The exterior was cleaned. Brushed& sealed for protection as well as conservation, I leave the cracks& dents to preserve the character the trunk has ocumulated over the many years. New high end fabric interior was put on after stripping. Cleaning, brushing, drying and sealing the interior. some say fabric was not used for the interior originally. This trunk came from a New England convent and was the most beautiful and well-appointed trunk of a group of about 15. There is a sticker with the Nun's name and the convent on the top. Besides great form& dimensions. It uses a design I've never seen before with rows of rivets down the middle of the top and front adding a very regal touch. Great original condition for it's age. Original or early wall paper is there and in great shape. Original bi-fold drawer is there and in excellent condition. The latches work well. There is no key. For sale is an rare antique Louis Vuitton coffee table sized steamer trunk from the 1920's. It measures 43"x 21 1/2"x12 1/2" and has the monogram pattern and all the matching LV hardware. It is 100% original. All of the nails are stamped and branded LV. The interior is in very good condition with no tears in the quilted silk patterned top and just a couple of stains in the bottom storage area. It is missing the original tray insert. The original Louis Vuitton paper label is intact and is not torn. The serial number is stamped and very clear-189940. The trunk has a few scuffs and a couple of cracks on the top but it is in good overall condition. A piece of the wooden runner on the bottom is missing. Otherwise. All of the other runners are complete and undamaged. The serial number stamped on the lock is 037965. 1920's chest// steamer trunk/ opens up to clean fresh dravers and mirror
This is my husbands Grandfathers"America" trunk. He owned it in the 1920's but it it probably older. It was made in Columbus, Ohio and has been cared for so it is in amazing shape, clean drawers with no odour at all, so it can actually be used as a chest of drawers, and it has the original mirror, with a secret compartment behind. All it needs for upkeep is wood oil, and even the wrought iron will shine up. It can be used as a sofa table, or as a side table, we put framed family photos on it. All hinges work smoothly, as do the drawers, please see photos. Closed up this chest measures 40" wide x 25 1/2" high x 22.5" deep, and when open it will be 45" high. 1920's H.A. Kolb Steamer Trunk Suitcase
I did some research on H.A. Kolb Trunk and Case Company based out of St Louis. MO, and I could hardly find anything. They became incorporated on April 30th 1912. The trunk is stamped with"J.W. Edgerly& Co" and there is a sticker that says"Rock Island" on the middle of the front. Rock Island. Illinois I am assuming. This is some information I found on J.W. Edgerly& Co: In 1860 he accepted a situation in the drug store of the late Dr. J. L. Taylor. In 1865. He, and C. F. Blake were admitted to membership in the firm, under the name of Taylor, Blake& Co. He retired from the above firm in 1875, and, in partnership with Wm. Daggett, organized the firm of Daggett& Harper and built the Ottumwa Linseed Oil Mills. In 1885 Mr. Daggett retired from the firm, and was succeeded by J. W. Edgerly, and the firm name was ... morechanged to W. T. Harper& Co. In 1888 J. W. Edgerly, W. T. Harper and C. F. Harlan purchased the wholesale drug house of Blake, Bruce and Co. and have continued under the name of J. W. Edgerly& Co. up to the present time. I also found this in an obituary: She was married here and the family made their home in Ottumwa.Iowa while MR. BEDWELL was a member of the old wholesale drug firm, Black,Bruce& Co. of which J.W. Edgerly& Co is the successor. From her the BEDWELL family moved to Omaha where MR. BEDWELL, continued in the wholesale drug business. He died in 1919. The inside of the trunk is in great shape with an original sticker that states: H.A. Kolb trunk and case co. Successors to the Union Sample Case Co 1522 Olive St Louis. This is an auto trunk from the 20's or early 30's in excellent condition. It has well-maintained a classy look. The trunk is covered in a bonded leather type material. It is textured like leather but a small tear in the front reveals a fabric backing. It may haven been painted at one time. Though I can't tell for sure. Dimensions are 32"x15"x15" Handle on right side has ripped, though both pieces are still present, and there is a small tear in the material on the front. The corners are all reinforced by leather pieces. Each strap and corner piece is secured by gorgeous rivets. The interior material is in pretty decent shape. A very rare antique Louis Vuitton coffee table sized steamer trunk from the 1920's. It measures 43"x 21 1/2"x 12 1/2" and has the monogram pattern. Matching LV hardware/nails& is 100% original. The interior is in very good condition with no tears in the quilted silk patterned top. Inside is very clean& original. It is missing the tray insert. The original Louis Vuitton paper label is intact and not torn. The serial number is stamped and very clear-189939. Unique orange dyed triangles are in the corners of the top(see photos) Vuitton did this to differentiate similar trunks while the owners were travelling. The trunk has a few scuffs but is in excellent condition. All of the runners are complete and undamaged. Lock stamped with serial number 036566. This original antique Wheary Wardrobe Trunk was owned by Mr. Fred Beecon, who traveled the SFO to Hong Kong route aboard the SS Shinyo Maru between 1911 and 1926. The Shinyo Maru was part of the Toyo Kisen Kaisha fleet and last sailed in 1931 before it was scrapped in 1936. From what I've been able to find in my research is that Mr. Beecon often traveled to Kobe, Japan on this ship and stayed at the Oriental Hotel there. This trunk was advertised as having"more strength and durability built into it than was thought possible" and was built to endure long arduous journeys. Called the world's finest wardrobe, it has rigid construction of the corners and features a special cushion top to hold the hangers absolutely in place without putting pressure on the clothes. Outer dimensions are approx. 36" wide x 23" high x 21" deep There is very little information available about this company. It seems that one John Eveleigh was born in Hereford. England in 1765, moving to Ireland ... morewhere all of his children were born before emigrating to Montreal, Quebec. One of his descendants, Joseph, remained in this city and founded the luggage company in 1870. In the days of lengthy travel by steamship and rail, there was obviously a huge demand for traveler's trunks. As the automobile and then the aircraft gained ascendancy as a mode of travel, luggage needs changed and perhaps Eveleigh did not adapt to this. The company was bought out in 1957 by the J.E. Lortie Company, also of Montreal, which had begun in 1892 as a saddlery business, eventually turning to the manufacture of leather pole-climbing belts and straps needed by workers erecting the the rapidly expanding electricity and telegraph lines. The Lortie company went on to manufacture canvas goods such as dunnage bags and army webbing during World War II, to which they added the Eveleigh product line when they acquired that company. Today, Lortie is known as Jelco, and specializes in fall-protection equipment. I will be listing a number of various pieces from 1930's-1970's. One of the 2 handles are broke. all the latches work and this does come with three origional wooden hangers. One of the hangers does have a chip in the wood. This is a real time treasured piece! Indestructo Steamer Trunk. This is a National Veneer Products Co Indestructo Trunk. I believe it is 1910's or 1920's but the inner label is dated 1908. It needs restoration. The inside tray is missing and the interior cloth has been removed. It had wallpaper stuck to the inside, most of which I removed. It still retains company warranty label inside. It needs veneer work, the left and right hinges are broken, I am sure they can be welded back together, the center hinge is fine. This 1920's Wheary Trunk cushioned top wardrobe chest is in pretty good condition. As you can see in the photos. The exterior, and all the hardware, is in solid structural and good cosmetic condition. The interior is better than most trunks of this age, with the fabric intact, no mold, or damage. The fold out drawer on the right side does seem to be missing(what I assume would be) the lift out tray. Two original wood hangers are included. If you are looking for decorative storage. Antique 1920's Immigiant's Steamer Trunk SS DROTTINHOLM Swedish American Sticker
A vintage to antique 1920's immigrant's half-dome top steamer trunk. Very plain, very solid and very sturdy. It's covered with tin and the metal has quite a lot of surface rust but it should clean up nicely and there is no rust through(no holes) The hardwood slats running across the top have developed a nice patina over the years and there are a couple of stickers remaining on one side that indicate it was shipped via the Swedish American Line the SS DROTTINHOLM, purchased by Sweden in 1920. Originally this ship was known as the RMS VIRGINIAN. A steam turbine powered transatlantic ocean liner that was initially launced in 1904. The trunk measures approximately 30" long X 14" wide X 21" high at the highest point near the center and it weighs roughly 37 lbs. There is no tray and the cloth stays that help to keep the ... morelid from falling backwards when open are torn. It has 2 wire bail type metal handles that would make it very uncomfortable to carry when it was full. I'm imagining the original owners immigrated to the US via New York sometime in the 1920's and based on the looks of this trunk it took every penny they could scrape together to pay for their passage. The trunk is lined with old paper and there are lots of water marks on the lining but the inside is nice and dry. It smells musty but there are no noxious odors and no moth ball smells. Most folks like to remove all of the paper inside, sand down the interior and then seal it which eliminates any lingering odors. Others like to line them with cedar. This interesting old trunk will be a worthy restoration project which will allow you to add additional storage to you home while preserving a small piece.of history. ANTIQUE 1920's ROUND CASE LUGGAGE HAT BOX TRUNK LEATHER TRIM TRAVEL STICKERS
An antique 1920's round black case/ luggage/ hat box/ trunk with leather trim and quite a few old travel stickers. It measures approximately 20" in diameter with one flat side so it can sit up without a problem X 9 3/4" high. There are 2 small brass hinges on the lid that hold it to the base of the case and there are 2 ribbons that serve as stays when the case is opened so the lid won't flop backwards when it's opened. It would seem that the lady who owned this hat case was a woman of'means' when you look at all the places it has been. And she most likely owned several others as well as the one you see here. One of the stickers on the case indicate the woman's name was Amelia Gebhard traveled in Cabin#11 on the Norddeutscher Lloyd(North German Lloyd) shipping line from Bremen to New York on 8-24-1926. VINTAGE HARTMANN 1920's STEAMER TRUNK LUGGAGE CHEST ANTIQUE NEAT PIECE
Up for purchase is this CIRCA 1920 Hartmann Cushion Top Steamer Trunk. The piece measures 40.5 x 21.5 x 15. As you can see on one side there are 4 Drawers and on the other one small suitcase on the bottom from where you would hang your cloths. There are no locks with this trunk, I do have the hardware piece to install the main lock if at some point you wanted to change the lock. This piece appears to have been repainted with the red and the art deco look on the drawers which was very well done. This piece was used as a decorative piece in a master bathroom from a local estate. The latches shut tight as they should. The piece has the patina one would expect from a steamer trunk from this era, has dings, dents scratches, scuffs, and the metal has the aged patina look. I have taken many pictures for your review. I have not attempted to clean ... moreup other than to run a damp cloths over the piece to clean off the dust. It's rare to find a vintage 1920's Hartmann wardrobe travel steamer trunk with its Yale key in this condition. All of the buckles and hardware on this piece are in working order. It comes with 2 straight bar hangers; 2 specialty hangers; and 5 coat/shirt/dress hangers. It has the original wood and metal bars that would have kept clothes tight and flat. The clothes bar extends 18" to pull clothes out for easy access. The trunk has three small drawers with cloth tie-downs and one large drawer with the original hanging hat keeper.
