The beauties are paint decorated with a washed finish( all original) and which is lovely, even with the chippy paint in places for a more shabby& chic look. Frames could be used as found or easily touched up in the places where paint has worn and flaked off, though I like them as they are. It features a sloped crest highlighted at the center with a carved floral embellishment, the exposed frame molded and flowing into curved handholds over arm supports that join directly into the frame. The form is predominantly round, the arms wrapping around the frame to create a cocoon around the seated, the entire chair resting over carefully carved tapered and fluted legs, the top embellished with a ring of acanthus carving. The frames are exquisitely carved with deep three-dimensional representations of leafage, the gilt highlighted spandrels handsomely carved with the same deep acanthus carving that is reinterpreted in the handholds and along the lift of the arm support. Made of cane and wood. Wear to a small amount of the cane and slight signs of wear in the form of minor scratches to the dark wood as well. These are not only appealing to the eye they are very large and cozy with the addition of cushions. Cushions are better explained in photos as there are parts of the original cushions in a very elaborate oriental theme material on the bottoms then at some point someone started to add new or different fabric and sadly not well I might add. The chairs retain an early and possibly original velour covering in excellent condition with a wonderful mellowed wear throughout. The frames are handsomely carved with floral embellishments at the crest and along the apron, the knees carved in the typical manner over the molded cabriole legs and terminating in stumped toes. The surface is an earthy green paint with chartreuse highlights, the whole with restrained and appropriate faux distressing- it is an early surface, probably the first. The front Cabriole legs are adorned on top with swirling scrolls and finished on the base/feet with whorls.
