The doors glide smoothly while opening& closing. If you put very heavy things on the top it does put some pressure on the hinge part that makes the doors open& close which makes it harder to open& close. This Victorian oak bookcase is made of four sections. Each stacks on top of one another and locks in for a strong fit. This bookcase was made from solid American oak and measures 59 inches high, 34 and one half inches wide, 9 and one have inches deep at three sections and 14 and one half inches deep at the bottom section. Three sections are 10 and one half inches high and the other one is 14 and one half inches high. Retains all its original beveled clear leaded glass. The doors retract and slide out of the way easily. The bottom shelf is missing it's glass other than that all is there. I kept my dvds on the bottom shelf and it made much easier to take them out if glass wasn't there. Later when moving the glass was broke. All other pieces are in tack and original to my knowledge. I say that because it's the old style wavy glass. So most likely original.
