Antique Spinet Writing Desk Early 1900's
Gorgeous details include: hide-away desk area. Extendable writing board, small drawer on top, large drawer beneath desk, and plenty of small cubbyholes. Made of either solid maple or walnut with matching veneers. There are noticeable surface scratches on the top(see two pictures) and there is a chip on the writing surface( see picture) Obviously the desk does have some cosmetic flaws but is very well built and is structurally sound.

Vintage Fold-top Writing Desk Spinet
Folding/ Portable/ Collapseable Desk Like a Spinet Desk but no big drawer along the bottom. It measures 34" long by 20" wide By 34.5" tall. Closed. The legs can be stored inside it measures 8" tall. Weight 49 pounds. There are two drawers and three little pigeon holes at the back. Recent find from an antique dealers estate sale. Not sure of age. It is old and a bit fragile. Was missing knob on front. I just added a brass knob to make it easier to lock. Also. Missing key to lock, but I ground a key to fit and it works. Shows wear from use. A few chips in veneer. Some letters in red on top see pic 10. Big chip missing in bottom of one leg. There are some cracks in places on legs from drying. Pics show condition. 373" on bottom. Thanks for Looking! Antiquemahogany spinet desk with folding top Inexcellent. Refurbished condition. Purchased from an antiques dealer severalyears ago. Made by The Udell Works furniture makiers from 1874-1950. The Udell Works of Indianapolis was foundedin 1874. It made cabinets. Desks and bookcases. In the 1920s. People removed the works fromout-of-style pianos and used the shell as a desk. Eventually, furniture companies made desks that looked like, but never were, pianos. In 1927. The Udell Dependable Furniture Co. advertised a spinet desk as a"fast-sellingnumber of pleasing design. A spinetdesk is an antique desk form which has the exterior shape of a slightly higher than usual writing table. Fitted with a single drawer under the whole length of the flat top surface. The spinet desk when closed resembles a spinet. A musical instrument of the harpsichord ... morefamily. This middledrawer. However, is a dummy. It is a hinged panel which is meant to be folded in, at the same time as half of the hinged top surface is folded back on to thetop of the other half, revealing an inner desktop surface of normal height,with small drawers and pigeonholes in the back.
