1800s Eastlake folding nursing sewing rocking chair w Bird & Floral Tapestry
You are looking at a folding Eastlake rocker. Wood type(oak, walnut, cherry? not pine) This type of rocker has been called a sewing chair, a nursing chair and a slipper rocker. It has beautifully detailed carving in the wood. It may have been reupholstered and/or restained at some point. The fabric is in good condition with no rips or tears. It does not smell and has no stains. The back is carved ornamental spindles and the trim has some reeding in it. See photos 9& 10 which show the main"imperfections" in the chair including small chips and bubbles in the stain. This is a really old piece, I believe it is from the mid to late 1800's. The chair folds up and is smaller in size. I do not know the maker or exact date this chair was made. It is antique and will not be perfect. There are some pulled threads on the seat cushion on the embroidered border as shown in pictures. Wood shows some scratches and nicks from normal use wear. In overall good condition for antique age. Vintage folding wood rocking chairs in decent condition! These rock smoothly. Although they both need their screws tightened. I noticed that the wood on the seats both have a split in the wood. The stuffing on the underside of one of the cushions looks in need of care.Nothing huge, but just saying.look at the pictures carefully to get the best description. The chairs have a floral design fabric on the seat and back with brown trim. The upper backs of the chairs are carved with a floral spray. Beautiful pieces! This chair is in excellent condition for its age. There are a couple of dings and nicks in the wood. BUT no cracks-only two joints where they have opened a bit, and i have illustrated this as best i could in the pictures. The chair is very solid and does not wobble or feel loose at all and the cushion is in great shape. The needle point seat and back are in remarkable condition. The chair is sturdy and fully functional.

The cane needs to be repaired or it could prob just be turned into a fabric covered piece of wood. Many use these as planters on a porch.many possibilities! I'm selling this lovely antique rocking chair for a friend. She's owned it about 50 years and it was old when she bought it. She was told it was a Hitchcock chair. But I do not see any markings. This is a woman's rocker- a nursing rocker or sewing rocker- since it has no arms. Not sure what the wood is.maybe walnut? I'm no expert on these. There have been repairs to two of the legs, very long ago. Wood shows the wear and age you would expect from a piece this old. See photos. Nice find! about 35" at the tallest- when sitting still. 20" wide at the top. the seat is approx. 16" at the wide. Antique sewing nursing rocker brown wood rocking chair maple early 1900's RARE
Antique small high-back rocking chair early 1900's or earlier; wood like maple or tiger oak but am not positive on the type of wood. This style is commonly known as a ladies(larger than a childs rocker& smaller than a standard rocker) bedroom rocker as it was utilitarian for sewing while rocking& armless to allow you to nurse your infant. Light maple brown stain/shellac in color with nice detail on spindles. High-back design& not sure exactly if Edwardian, Victorian, early Americana. Hard to find these small antique rockers with high backs& long ski like rockers. Many of these were used in the bedroom as they were smaller& took up less space. Curved wood rods attach seat to the back for sturdier construction to keep it from separating. Seat is grooved up a little in middle front so your legs lay nicely w/out them falling ... moreinto each other; very comfy. Nice cut out design on back piece. Spindle detail on top back& front chair leg supports. Rocker is 36" from floor to top back; 15 1/2" from floor to seat; 16" side to side at front of seat; 25 1/2" from back of seat to top of back. I welcome any additional info you know about this item. This belonged to my grandmother's mother(I am 52) I have included as many photos as the system will allow. I can email other photos if there is something else you would like to view. I have tried to capture unique details and imperfections. Rocker is in excellent condition for it's age(I think so but all opinions vary) Some small issues of dings. One area has lost it's coloring on seat(photos 3& 10) The front of the seat has a slight separation-see picture 9. This could be restored but will leave up to new owner. Antique dark brown wood rocker rocking chair sewing nursing spindle back 1900
Beautiful dark stained/shellac antique rocking chair that is small but high back and seat is big enough for a woman. This style is normally considered utilitarian for ladies to sew while rocking and armless to nurse the infant. It is larger than a childs rocker& smaller than the standard size. Possibly Mahogany or Oak. Hard to find these small antique rockers intact. Unfortunately the maker sticker or tag is missing from the bottom of the seat(photo 12) Measures 38" tall from ground to top back; 14 3/4" floor to seat; 17" from side to side on front of seat; 25 1/2" from back of seat to top high back. Circa around 1900 most likely Mahogany in Edwardian style with spindled seat back rest and front rods under seat. Dark stain/shellac finish. Seat is curved& molded with grooved area comes up to keep legs separated ... morewhile rocking. Reinforced curved wood rods add security to the structure keeping the back attached to the seat; this is original& not added later. Grooved seat fits the behind nicely and adds comfort. Great detail& work. Great shape for it's age& fully functional. Wear to stained finish on rocker legs but no damage on bottom& legs themselves are fine. One area on top has a chipped piece. One screw has been placed in back to replace hardware that was missing. I welcome any additional info you know about this item. Antique birdseye maple sewing/nursing caned seat rocking chair 1900-1950 America
Lovely antique birdseye maple sewing/nursing rocking chair with caned seat. I had the caning redone several years ago so it is in excellent shape. The seat shows indications that at some point in time another type of seat had been tacked/nailed in place which frequently occurred when caning needed replacement. Otherwise. This chair is excellent condition. The chair measures 32" high from the floor to the top of the center back; the seat is 16.5 X 16.25" The joints are solid and the finish appears to be original.
