The information below gives you information about the company and vintage era about this ... morecedar chest. Cedar Chest by Ed. Roos Co. The Ed. Roos Co. manufactured quality cedar chests from about 1916 to 1951. Most of those years they were located in Forest Park. IL. They were very successful for a time and made a large quantity of cedar chests. Because of that they are not particularly scarce. They are, however, of very good quality and were manufactured in quite a few styles. The style and condition are the determining factors in value. The Art Deco"waterfall" style. It is. However, in better condition and would be worth about $200-$250. The"Roos Manufacturing Co. of Chicago was established in 1871 by Edward Roos(born in Germany in December 1848) Died in 1906. He had several children including Otto(born 1877) and Edward(born 1880) Otto took over the Roos Manufacturing Company when his father died in 1906. They did manufacture cedar chests, but it is unclear when they started. The business began making curtain rods and later wooden boxes. They used a rooster in several variations in some of their logos. The"Ed Roos Company of Forest Park" started in Chicago as the Roos Cedar Chest Company in 1916. And also manufactured cedar chests, but it is a different company. They used a tree(presumably a cedar tree) in a circle as their logo. There are also other logos without the tree, and one with a heart for their"Sweetheart" chests. They also used a variety of paper and cardboard labels. It was started by Otto's brother. Edward. The company moved to Forest Park, IL in 1918 and changed its name to the Ed Roos Company of Forest Park In the 1920 federal census. Otto Roos is listed as President of a wooden wares business. So it is clear that the original Roos Manufacturing Company was still at work in 1920, after Ed Roos opened up shop in 1918 in Forest Park. I have found no information yet that says whether the original company

Folks. Up for consideration is a Vintage 1947 Art Deco piece of beautiful furniture. This Vintage Cedar Chest created by Ed Roos and is called the Roos Sweetheart Cedar Chest Model 8009. This particular piece of furniture still has the original tags attached on the inside of the cedar chest. This Roos Sweetheart Chest was built in 1947 and sold at a cost of $250! The cedar chest as a whole is in good condition. The inside of the chest has a top tray lined in felt and the interior is lined with aromatic red cedar. The outside is constructed of hardwood veneersand does have its share of nicks and scratches being consistent with its age of over 65 years especially around the bottom side corners. This is a Roos Cedar Chest of Forest Park Illinois. This chest will be a quality by and a piece which can be passed onward for generations. It is in good condition. But there is some wear. The top show a little varnish crackling due to its age(pictured) and the bottom front left corner has a small scuff/chip(pictured) Outside of that the wear is normal marks scratches consistent with the chest's age. 30s Art Deco Heirloom Wood Roos Sweetheart Cedar Chest w/ Tray Insert Excellent!
Vintage 30s Roos Cedar Chest This is a gorgeous heirloom quality Roos Sweetheart cedar chest from the late 1930s. This Roos chest was made in Forest Park. IL. The chest is made of Claro Walnut, Striped Walnut and Black Walnut. The inside of the chest is aromatic Red Cedar. The cedar chest is still quite aromatic, it has a special sealite lid to prevent the escape of the protective cedar fumes. The chest measures 47-1/4" long, it is 23" tall and 18-1/4" deep. It has a cedar tray on the inside which is 10" deep. The cedar chest is in excellent condition, the wood is rich and it gleams. On close inspection it shows a few vintage scuffs, mainly where the back edge would rub against the wall when opened, but nothing outstanding and it shows no abuse. The inside looks like new. There is a lock on the chest but I do not have ... morea key. This chest comes from a smoke free and pet free home. It is clean and ready to use. Buyers are welcome to ask for other forms of payment. Featuring double locks and two levels. This beautiful Hope Chest is multi-functional and a great collectors piece! The first shelf has four felt compartments including one large area that you can strap down a blanket or anything really! The largest compartment under the first shelf is lined with thick paper with holes. This method is used to protect both the cedar and any items stored. Articles and cloths along with other items can stick to the cedar and possibly ruin both. The lining helps the cedar breath. And keeps items from attaching to the wood. Then, it has a triple-section top that is felt lined for all your fragile items, and it has a Middlebury clock in the top. Very rarely do you see these chests with a clock in the backsplash! Forest Park Line Red Cedar Chips 1920s Box Unopened Ed Roos Company
This is a terrific item. An unopened box of red cedar chips, a natural way to combat moths. They were made by Forest Park Chests, located in Forest Park, Illinois. The box has illustrations on three sides and the top; it measures 8 inches by 4 inches by 4 inches. Condition is great. It is a little concave on the front—very minor. Most notably: the red ink used around the border has a shiny quality; in spots this was unstable and ran—mostly on the back and one side panel. It also appears that some bits of the chips have worked their way to the edge of the package in one spot.

Genuine Cedar Chest - Ed Roos Company - Beautiful (see photos)
Up for auction is a Genuine Roos Cedar Chest from Ed Roos Company of Forest Park Illinois. The original warranty card and original details about the use and care of the chest are still attached to the inside of the chest. Serial# 137317 card is still attached to bottom of chest. The warranty card has a date of March 1 1938 on it. The original Guardex Cedar Liner is still inside the bottom of the chest. The patented sealtite lid seals in the aroma of the cedar. It has the original top tray and all original hinges as well. The outside has some wear and there are obvious stains on the top of the lid however it could be easily restored. The inside looks brand new and still after 76 years has a strong smell of cedar. This is one of the most beautiful Cedar Chests I have ever seen. Great detail in the design. 1948 ROOS mahogany cedar chest w/ cedar draw at the bottom in really nice condition. Has the original tag on the inside of the top. the lock and latch are there, but no key- it is in the unlocked position. the latch clicks shut and the button must be pushed to open it up( works as it should) you could probally find a key for it if so desired. Nice ornate mahagany woodworking decorates it fantastically! excellent patina. very solid piece of furniture. has some very minor scuffs and light scratches- nothing major or an eyesore. one small crack in the front right corner( approx 3/4" long) that is hardly noticable and does not effect it's looks/ function or sturdiness. the picture makes the crack look worse than it really is. overall size is approx 40w x 32h x 19L. the chest is 37wx 16deep x 16L and the bottom draw is approx 35wx 15Lx ... more8 1/2deep. local pick up only. you need to have your own truck and movers. payment must be cleared before moving it. This is an Ed. Roos Co. Cedar Chest which is great condition. The information below gives you information about the company and vintage era about this cedar chest. Cedar Chest by Ed. Roos Co. The Ed. Roos Co. manufactured quality cedar chests from about 1916 to 1951. Most of those years they were located in Forest Park. IL. They were very successful for a time and made a large quantity of cedar chests. Because of that they are not particularly scarce. They are, however, of very good quality and were manufactured in quite a few styles. The style and condition are the determining factors in value. The Art Deco"waterfall" style. It is. However, in better condition and would be worth about $200-$250. The"Roos Manufacturing Co. of Chicago was established in 1871 by Edward Roos(born in Germany in December 1848) Died in 1906. He had ... moreseveral children including Otto(born 1877) and Edward(born 1880) Otto took over the Roos Manufacturing Company when his father died in 1906. They did manufacture cedar chests, but it is unclear when they started. The business began making curtain rods and later wooden boxes. They used a rooster in several variations in some of their logos. The"Ed Roos Company of Forest Park" started in Chicago as the Roos Cedar Chest Company in 1916. And also manufactured cedar chests, but it is a different company. They used a tree(presumably a cedar tree) in a circle as their logo. There are also other logos without the tree, and one with a heart for their"Sweetheart" chests. They also used a variety of paper and cardboard labels. It was started by Otto's brother. Edward. The company moved to Forest Park, IL in 1918 and changed its name to the Ed Roos Company of Forest Park In the 1920 federal census. Otto Roos is listed as President of a wooden wares business. So it is clear that the original Roos Manufacturing Company was still at work in 1920, after Ed Roos opened up shop in 1918 in Forest Park. Ed Roos Co. Waterfall Style Cedar Chest/Removeable Tray & Pull Out Draw.
Ed Roos Chests of Forest Park Ill started in business around the turn of the century. Chest Manufacture was a primary business and they continued through the 1950's. This chest is complete with removable tray and draw. We vacuumed out the interior. Cleaned the exterior, and treated the exterior with Howards Restor-a Finish Mahogany and then with furniture oil. New felt was installed in the tray and draw. The front is inlaid with burled wood in great patterns. There are a couple of places on the top where the varnish is slightly scratched but they don't show. You could spot refinish these but most customers leave these as testament to their 65+ year life. This piece is ready for you to use. Not a fixer up project, and all you need to do is add your clothing items. The Chest measures 44" x 19" deep x 19" high and weighs ... moreabout 65 pounds. Here's a beautiful vintage ROOS Cedar chest with drawer and clock. Has some inlaid wood work on the front and top. The clock has the figures of the zodiac around it. The top seals with felt strips to fully seal the inside. The original warranty card is intact and boasted a cash reward if your clothes where damaged. There was 2 pieces of wood and 2 rollers inside the drawer as seen in the photos but I'm not sure they go to this chest. Some scratches but mostly in the varnish. local pickup in Elgin IL. The Wooden chest measures 46 1/4" long X 18" wide X 22" in height. The chest in in good condition, with one side missing edge veneer. Has lots of scratches. Original tags on it. Has a split on the bottom left bottom base. See last Picture. Has some blistering on the enamel or stain right side end. Despite all this, this Chest will not disappoint. Very well made and build. US MADE WITH PRIDE by Roos. I have owned and sold many chest. But none like this one. I think trying to restore or make it look better, just takes the charm from this true antique piece.
