Condition: Used Location: Olathe, United States This is a great carved quartered oak barrister bookcase. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacking bookcase. This outstanding stacking desk bookcase ... moreis one of the nicest we have ever seen. It has leaded glass windows in the top two sections below the molded top. The carved fall board has a key that opens or locks the desk section. Inside are two strong desk lid supports and a nice set of pigeon holes with a single pencil drawer-fitted interior. The desk section sits above two full width drawers. The top drawer is shaped to fit the curve. The second drawer is carved to accent the fall board. Both drawers have original brass handles. The lowest section is an extra tall one with a"blind" door or wood paneled door to prevent breakage from feet. The entire piece sits on a molded base section. Quartersawn oak is showcased through the entire piece which is in excellent condition. I believe this case was made by the Viking Company. Overall dimensions are 34 wide, 15 deep, and 69 high. Although we have sold hundreds of interesting barrister bookcases over the years, we have never seen this model before. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. For those of you who are Globe Wernicke/Macey stack barrister legal bookcase collectors. Restorers and fans these are EXACTLY what you need to finish detailing your bookcase desk units. This auction is for 2(two) matching pair bookcase desk leg mounting hardware assemblies. I have seen many ways in which people have tried to cobble attaching the legs of the desk to the unit once the hardware has been lost. The most common is giant wood screw and nails. None of these provide the stability required ... moreto secure the legs properly to the underside of the desk unit. I have gone to considerable expense, time and effort to have these produced again. These are very difficult to produce. First the original thickness gauge material had to be located. This is then cut to dimensional size and bent into a"Z" bracket matching the original shapes exactly. Then the counter sunk holes for the screw are drilled and finally the rounded corners are done by hand. The set comes with 4 correct brackets and two correct(to original) mounting wood screws. Given that these are not massed produced each bracket has small variations in finish but the overall size and hole placement is absolutely exacting to the originals. Once you place these into the slots at the back of your desk legs and anchor the wood screw in the exiting hole in your desk the installation just takes a few minutes and appears completely authentic when installed(see last photo on the left) This is the only way to go to secure your legs for proper desk functioning and to protect the investment value of your stack. They facilitate the smooth opening and closing of the doors on these stack sectional barrister lawyer bookcases. I also have the mechanisms that fit the"C" D" and"S" ... moreseries units. Without these the doors frequently bind and can damage the tracks. If this occurs repeatedly over time it can require a great deal of work to repair. These are in excellent shape and will not require any cleaning. They come with the eyelet attaching pieces for the doors for free if requested AND NOW THE RARE 3/8" LONG SCREWS FOR THE BACKS! I had to have these screws special made in a#5000 order lot. These are not available anywhere. Screws that are longer than this will puncture the back panels. The original production screws were 3/8" in length as well. This is the only place to get the correct attaching screw hardware as well. While these mechanisms fit easily into the Globe Wernicke cases they can also be easily adapted to the Macey cases. I have multiple sets of these available to the buyer. RARE 3/4 width(25" Globe-Wernicke top in solid Maple(style 598 1/2) In great shape considering it is 100+ years old. Original finish w/original tag. This is a size"D" depth top. Little dusty and could benefit from some light cleaning. There are scratches consistent with age and there appears to be some uneven aging to the stain on the top(as if there were books placed on the top and not moved for years. Exposing some of the top to sun and other parts not so much) You should be able to see this in the pictures. No water, mold damage. I also have the corresponding base for auction as well. And with door"equalizers" which later versions did not have. Made by Globe-Wernicke Co, Cincinnati, OH in extremely rare mahogany, which was the company's most expensive grade. Remarkable, beautiful condition for being over 100 years old. All glass is original too, except for the bottom door. Never refinished or in any other way modified. This has been in my family since it was purchased new by my great-grandparents. Specs: 1. Early gold label version. Dating it to 1899-1910. H as“equalizers” on each door. Which are folding metal spring rods to keep the doors from pulling off and to allow them to swing upward and slide into each section, getting the doors out ... moreof the way. The Globe-Wernicke Company was created when the Globe Company of Cincinnati. Ohio purchased the Wernicke Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1899. The parent company, Globe, had been founded in 1882 by Henry Yeiser and is best known for their vertical filing cabinets and sectional filing cabinets. The Wernicke Company was founded in Minneapolis. Minnesota by Otto Wernicke, widely regarded as the inventor of the sectional bookcase, in 1893. In 1897, the Wernicke Company moved to Grand Rapids. Soon after the creation of Globe-Wernicke. A battle for control of the company began between Henry Yeiser and Otto Wernicke, resulting in Wernicke being forced out by 1903. ... moreOtto Wernicke joined up with the Fred Macey Company of Grand Rapids in 1904, the resulting company changing their name to the Macey-Wernicke Company, which began making bookcases nearly identical to those of GW. Rare 3/4 size Globe Wernicke Quartersawn Oak Barrister Bookcase Grade 299 D Siz
Very rare Globe Wernicke 3/4 size barrister bookcase. This is original. Not cut down. Approximately 25 1/2" wide. Stands about 43 1/2" tall. 5 pieces. Top, bottom, 2) 8 1/2" sections, and(1) 10 1/4" section. Grade 299. D size. Original quartersawn white oak. Original wavy glass. Early label makes this a pre-1922 bookcase. In very nice condition. Top may have slight touchup, but great, beautiful condition. Extemely hard to find.

Globe Wernicke Bookcase Rare Arts Mission Style.
Arts Mission Bookcase. Excellent age related condition. Circa 1900. Two very large bookcases. Both being D 12 1/4. Base with drawer in great shape. And drawer opens and closes fine, as do the glass doors. Glass on both cases are wavy and old. But I can't attest to there originality. One of the glass doors has been extended at one point. Who. What, where, or why, I don't know. This is a solid wood series. Made with quartered and fumed oak. The pictures are very accurate in terms of condition and color of the wood. Which is darker then golden oak, with a reddish tint. The top piece does have a bit of lifting. But no splitting. Local pick-up. No shipping unless pre-arranged.

Two ultra rare Globe Wernicke Ideal bookcases ( 1912 antiques )
You're bidding on TWO extremely rare Globe Wernicke"ideal" model barrister bookcases. These rarely come on the market. You can find"ideal" parts on Ebay(like handles and knobs) But the bookcases themselves almost never show up on Ebay. These"Ideal" cases are made of deep rich mahogany and have hand-carved designs. Beautiful beveled glass doors work perfectly. All original"Ideal" knobs. Handles and labels. See photos. Each bookcase has three"Ideal" stacks. The photos of the first case are marked with the number 1. The photos of the second case are marked with the number 2. The dimensions of each case are 53" high x 35" wide x 15" deep. The grade of the stacks are marked 598(the highest) The condition of the bookcases are quite nice considering the age(over 100 years) Minor ... morenicks and scratches which can be touched up with stain markers. You have to arrange the pick up. This way YOU control the shipping expenses. Plus you can inspect the items first. Stack sizes on the first case are: 12.25" 8.5" 12.25 Stack sizes on the second case are: 10.25" 10.25" 12.25" These cases weigh a lot. But the stacks can be separated for shipping purposes. Rare GLOBE WERNICKE Sectional File Bookcase TOP 17 3/8" X 41 1/2" Barrister
Offered here is a Globe Wernicke Sectional File top. The metal band measures 17 3/8"long. Overall the top measures 18" x 41 1/2" The top has been stained and then refinished with 7 coats of Orange and Blonde shellac, 2 coats applied with brush and 5 additional applied with pad in a french polishing technique. It has some minor flaws but overall is in excellent condition and is ready to use. Please ask any questions before bidding.
