Cushions upholstered in a blue and white sailboat motif. A Morris chair is an early type of reclining chair. The design was adapted by William Morris's firm, Morris& Company from a prototype owned by Ephraim Colman in rural Sussex, England. It was first marketed around 1866. The design features a seat with a reclining back and moderately high armrests, which give the chair an old-style appearance. The characteristic feature of a Morris chair is a hinged back, set between two un-upholstered arms, with the reclining angle adjusted through a row of pegs, holes or notches in each arm. Oak Clawfoot Morris Chair
I just love Morris chairs because they were the forerunner of todays recliners and were created over 100 years ago. This one is especially nice because it has paw feet. Beading across the stretcher and the reclining mechanism is accessible to operate while remaining seated. It was refinished several years ago and remains in excellent condition. This amazing oak children's chair is a real find. You can see from the photo of the chair's back that it is designed with an old-fashioned reclining feature! The finish is very nice- but there is one chip out of one of the armrests- see photos. The seat is 9 inches high. The arms are 21 inches high and the chair is 15 inches wide. Antique Paw Foot Oak Morris Chair Complete Parts Restoration Project ~ Free Ship
A very kind eBay visitor wrote to tell me that this is a Larkin No. 65 Improved Morris Chair. Made from about 1904 to about 1908. Unfortunately winter is coming soon. But you might benefit from this worthwhile project. This chair features nicely carved paw feet and arm rests, and geometric details along the front of the seat. All the hard work has been done. This chair has been disassembled and nicely stripped. They did a good job of stripping, without damaging the nice original details of the chair. A little bit of cleanup still to do. There is some damage to the paw feet, but no major problems. Please look at photos closely. As far as I can tell. This includes all the original parts, except as noted here. One of the spindles is a new replacement. It is slightly oversize, so it should be easy to work it down to the correct fit. Appears that ... moreone of the rolling castor feet broke many years ago, so someone attached stationary metal foot bits to the bottoms of the legs. The original wheels are included. One is missing the roller, and the other three are missing the sleeves. Those should be simple to replace, if you desire to get this nice chair rolling again. Otherwise this chair is ready for a crafty person to finish cleaning up, and put back together. Minor splinters, cracks etc will need to be finished and glued. Some nails will need to be replaced, and other parts will need to be reglued. I will need to unscrew the center hinges for shipping. Also there are a couple old nails hanging out that I might need to remove before shipping. There are two support pieces with four holes each. I'm not sure what those are for. They will need screws. It would be hard to find another Morris Chair this nice that includes free shipping in the USA. Also. If you win multiple auctions that can be shipped together, I will give you a discount for each additional item shipped in the same package. See and save more! Before paying. There are knobs on the sides that tighten the mechanism to hold it in the position that you choose. The arms were disassembled and the entire mechanism was restored to new condition. There was no expense or effort spared in this restoration. And yet the golden oak still retains the patina of 100 yo wood. There is a paper label on the bottom of the seat with the order number and factory 13 as well as the chair number 471. There is also a set of initials"J.G. as well as a signature"J.G. St?someone put a tack in the middle of the last name(see photos" I have been told by some that it looks like J.G. Stickley's signature. But I do not know for sure.Stickley did make a chair 471 that WAS a Morris chair, but they don't look like this one.maybe a prototype, one-off or special order? The original cover was very stiff brown oil cloth like on a buggy seat. It was in very bad condition and I could not find any reproduction fabric, the fabric I used is just as durable and protected with Scotch Guard, but is so much more comfortable.

This is a massive. Oak Morris chair that has been re-glued and refinished and has newer upholstery. Notice the huge paw feet and the impressed design on the skirt and the legs. After the original posting of this chair I re-glued it, re-tied the springs underneath, replaced the two missing rear wheels and ordered a replacement bar for the back adjustment.

PULL UP A CHAIR AND SET A SPELL! I AM NOT A FURNITURE EXPERT. I AM SELLING THIS PIECE FOR SOMEONE ELSE. Please ask questions and I will forward them to the owner. I did as much research as I could using my photographs, made comparisons with other chairs. And I conclude that this one is unique! Not factory-made. William Morris himself would be inspired. There is no manufacturer's mark. And my feeling is that it was home-built by a skilled and crafty person. the side"x" arm supports seem a bit rough and uneven. And not mass-produced. Front legs are smooth. Appear lathe-turned, and have light longitudinal carving. Rear legs are unique. Each carved out of a thick oak board. The arm ... morerests are mostly flat. Wider and rounded where the hands would rest, an ergonomic design. With carved downward-curving grooves. Perhaps so the condensation from grandpa's cider would drain off instead of leaving a ring on the wood? The brass bar on the back is missing a finial. And a foot has been repaired. It was professionally upholstered sometime recently in a fabric that imitates a Persian carpet design in warm reds and earth tones with green and blue accents. Hello, You are bidding on a Antique very rare J. A. Kelly Bros. Morris Mission Tiger Oak Recliner Chair that looks to be in over all good condition! However. I'm not sure if all the mechanical components are present or whether they just needs to be set properly for recliner to work correctly? The oak looks to be in good shape. The previous owner install some modern braces inside the magazine holder, and in some corners. The chair does have roller coaster as shown in pictures. The velvet like cloth is alright. The spring appears to o.k. Its measures 33" wide X 27" deep X 38" tall. You'd be hard press to find another J. A. Kelly Recliner like this one! I don't know much more about this chair. Chair was professionally reglued and refinished when purchased 12 years ago. The chair is tight and the reclining mechanism is fully operational, but can be touchy if you do not take care to fully engage. See pic#9 for the push/pull recliner operating knob located between the struts. Chair is on casters. The leather upholstery is beautiful, but is missing two of the"button caps" see the pics) All the wood is solid(no veneer) oak, with most pieces being quarter sawn. Tbe uprights are thru tenon construction to the front and back skirt, the sides are dowel pinned to the uprights. The uprights are thru the armrests. The backrest is on metal hinges, the back adjustable on the armrests to three positions. Chair measures 37-1/2" tall by 31" wide by 36" deep. Excellent condition: original finish, oak boards without cracks, minor nick or two. Includes the oak adjustment pegs. Original spring cushion support. New fabric covers over foam cushions. The back lays flat for easy transportation and also for safe storage. Measures approximately 26" from front arm to the back legs. I love these old Morris chairs. The first recliners. This one is especially nice due to the carved legs and paw feet. It was refinished several years ago and professionally re-upholstered. All the brass hardware is original and in excellent polished condition. Right now it is a bit wobbly but I will completely re-glue it before auctions end.

The seat is covered with some old material- under the material are the original springs- all intact. It looked as though it had not been touched in many years. It's made from quarter sawn oak with smooth leather cushions in great shape and still has its original finish. This is an excellent piece of Mission/ Arts& Crafts furniture in a hard to come by condition. Please reference the photos for an example. With only one stand-out flaw. The chain that held the peg in the back has broken off. The rest of the condition is typical for a piece of mission furniture this old. Antique ORIGINAL STICKLEY Mission Oak Beautiful Dark Morris Chair With Label
Up for bids is this 1920's excellent all original including the nice dark finish Quaint Bros Stickley Bros Company form Grand Rapids Michigan Morris chair. This chair very tight and does not need any repair except one of the nail covers on the back is missing(see pic) The finish is dark but worn and there are a few large nicks to the wood. The cushion may be original as it is very heavy with what seems to be springs inside. I believe it is vinyl. Not leather. The chairs measures 27" arm to arm. 39 1/4" floor to top of back, 23" seat width and 19" deep.
