1800s Eastlake folding nursing sewing rocking chair w Bird & Floral Tapestry
You are looking at a folding Eastlake rocker. Wood type(oak, walnut, cherry? not pine) This type of rocker has been called a sewing chair, a nursing chair and a slipper rocker. It has beautifully detailed carving in the wood. It may have been reupholstered and/or restained at some point. The fabric is in good condition with no rips or tears. It does not smell and has no stains. The back is carved ornamental spindles and the trim has some reeding in it. See photos 9& 10 which show the main"imperfections" in the chair including small chips and bubbles in the stain. This is a really old piece, I believe it is from the mid to late 1800's. The chair folds up and is smaller in size. I do not know the maker or exact date this chair was made. It is antique and will not be perfect. Up for auction today is this wonderful Vintage folding chair. It looks to me like it has been repaired underneath the seat with those two pieces of wood(pic 11) But you make your own judgement. There is a brass plate on the back(Pic 9) The material is the 1776 bicentennial pattern and is in great shape. The chair has a few scrapes from wear. It is a low sitting chair 34" high to the top of the back of the chair, the rocker arm is 29" long. Seat is 18" x 17" Folds up great. Would be fairly heavy and bulking for shipping. Early 1900's Antique English Nursing / Kids Chair
This is a beautiful English"nursing" chair or kids chair from the early 1900's. the wood finish is great and shows minimal signs of usual or typical wear from a chair of this period. The leather on the back is in excellent shape with no rips or tears. The cushion shows very little wear and also has no rips or tears. The overall measurements are; back of the chair measures 29 1/2" tall. It is 20 1/2" wide and 19 1/2" deep, the seat is 7" from the floor, arms are 20" from the floor and the cushion is 6 1/2 high. It was designed for nursing mothers and then to be a child's chair in a nursery. This is a gorgeous piece of furniture for any room. It is for sale for local pick up only. Rare Antique Arts & Crafts Solid Oak Hall or Nursing Chair circa 1900 - 1920's
This is a delightful. One-of-a-kind Antique Arts& Crafts Solid-Oak Chair. Several dealers have dated it from 1900 to 1920 and by all observations that certainly appears to be true. It is solid oak with brass screws. The maker is unknown. The legs have not been cut off since one can still see the maker's original bevels on the bottom of them. The patina and all other visual signs indicate the chair is about one-hundred or so years old. It has not been re-finished. Given the angle of the seat it may have been intended as a nursing chair. It also could serve as a hall chair. One other possibility would be as a desk chair. You be the judge of that. The chair is very sound and has no cracks or breaks. There are two chips out of the back on the cut-out edge which are shown in the photos. They are not glaring. Although the legs and braces ... moreare finished smooth on the edges, the back and the seat edges have been left with saw marks still visible. There is a faint circular outline on the chair seat where a pot may have sat at one time. It is not an indentation of the wood, just a faint semi-circle. I have searched extensively on the web for another chair like this one. I have not found anything even close. It is truly a rarity. The dealers I consulted said they had never seen another like it either. The design itself is quite unique. The elongation of the back down to the braces being the most unusual feature. It adds a touch of elegance to an otherwise simple chair. It will make a wonderful addition to your Arts& Crafts home or furniture collection. Old Primitive Antique Wood Rocker Sewing Knitting Nursing Rocking Chair
Please see important shipping information prior to bidding! Up for sale is an Old Primitive Antique Wood Rocker Rocking Chair. This chair is really unusual. There are no arms. I've heard that sometimes these type of rockers were used for women who sewed or knitted, so they could keep their supplies close by. Or it was used by nursing mothers. I think that the center part of the seat was replaced at some point. The chair measures about 41 1/2" tall(in the position that it sits in photos) The seat is 17" wide; the back is 17" wide also. The length of the sleigh rocker part is 32" long. I don't know what type of wood this is. Or it's exact age. It shows wear such as marks, nicks, wood wear etc. I don't know too much about it, but I've used it and it's a good working chair. Please use zoom function ... moreon all photos to see condition. Antique "Nursing" Rocking Chair c. 1905 - Original!
Perfect Gift for the"Mom-To-Be" You are bidding on an Antique. Original cane-bottom wood nursing rocker from the early 1900s. This chair has been in our family as long as my mother-in-law who was born in 1919 can remember. She remembers it from her early childhood days in Quogue, New York. This wonderful nursing rocker was constructed without arms so that a nursing mom could hold her baby in her arms and not be hampered by the obstruction of wooden chair arms. She was free to move the baby from side to side without repositioning herself on the chair. The chair is over 100 years old and still has the original finish and cane seat. It has been well cared for and used lovingly by at least 4 generations of mothers in our family. We are downsizing so it is time to pass this chair along so it can begin anew. The chair is rather small ... moreso it fits very nicely in a nursery or right by the mom's bed. It measures 33" high. The width of the seat is 17" and the seat is 14- 1/2" off the floor. Antique small high-back rocking chair early 1900's or earlier; wood like maple or tiger oak but am not positive on the type of wood. This style is commonly known as a ladies(larger than a childs rocker& smaller than a standard rocker) bedroom rocker as it was utilitarian for sewing while rocking& armless to allow you to nurse your infant. Light maple brown stain/shellac in color with nice detail on spindles. High-back design& not sure exactly if Edwardian, Victorian, early Americana. Hard to find these small antique rockers with high backs& long ski like rockers. Many of these were used in the bedroom as they were smaller& took up less space. Curved wood rods attach seat to the back for sturdier construction to keep it from separating. Seat is grooved up a little in middle front so your legs lay nicely w/out them falling ... moreinto each other; very comfy. Nice cut out design on back piece. Spindle detail on top back& front chair leg supports. Rocker is 36" from floor to top back; 15 1/2" from floor to seat; 16" side to side at front of seat; 25 1/2" from back of seat to top of back. Beautiful dark stained/shellac antique rocking chair that is small but high back and seat is big enough for a woman. This style is normally considered utilitarian for ladies to sew while rocking and armless to nurse the infant. It is larger than a childs rocker& smaller than the standard size. Possibly Mahogany or Oak. Hard to find these small antique rockers intact. Unfortunately the maker sticker or tag is missing from the bottom of the seat(photo 12) Measures 38" tall from ground to top back; 14 3/4" floor to seat; 17" from side to side on front of seat; 25 1/2" from back of seat to top high back. Circa around 1900 most likely Mahogany in Edwardian style with spindled seat back rest and front rods under seat. Dark stain/shellac finish. Seat is curved& molded with grooved area comes up to keep legs separated ... morewhile rocking. Reinforced curved wood rods add security to the structure keeping the back attached to the seat; this is original& not added later. Grooved seat fits the behind nicely and adds comfort. Great detail& work. Great shape for it's age& fully functional. Wear to stained finish on rocker legs but no damage on bottom& legs themselves are fine. One area on top has a chipped piece. One screw has been placed in back to replace hardware that was missing. I welcome any additional info you know about this item. This belonged to my grandmother's mother(I am 52) I have included as many photos as the system will allow. I can email other photos if there is something else you would like to view. I have tried to capture unique details and imperfections. Rocker is in excellent condition for it's age(I think so but all opinions vary) Some small issues of dings. Seat is three different planks formed together& one must have separated& was glued-see pictures 8& 12, has one side top that is chipped-see picture 10 and one hardware original screw replaced at some time with a new screw-see picture 11. Antique birdseye maple sewing/nursing caned seat rocking chair 1900-1950 America
Lovely antique birdseye maple sewing/nursing rocking chair with caned seat. I had the caning redone several years ago so it is in excellent shape. The seat shows indications that at some point in time another type of seat had been tacked/nailed in place which frequently occurred when caning needed replacement. Otherwise. This chair is excellent condition. The chair measures 32" high from the floor to the top of the center back; the seat is 16.5 X 16.25" The joints are solid and the finish appears to be original.
