Under the seat fabric is a newer piece of wood for its bottom. There is a crack in the back of the chair that is shown in the last photo which does not go all the way through to the front. The chair is about 26 1/2 inches long. The width of the chair at the arms is approximately 24 1/2 inches. The seat is approximately 17 1/2 inches deep(front to back) the front of the seat is about 15 inches high. This would be a fine addition to a craftsman bungalow decor. Identification This antique L. and J.G. Stickley chair retains its original"THE WORK OF L. J.G. STICKLEY" paper label beneath one arm. As shown. It is circa early 20th century. Condition The chair looks good overall. It has its original leather seat. Which has wear and some staining. The finish appears to be original. The oak has minor nicks, scuffs, and dings, all of which are normal wear for an antique chair. The back side of one of the front vertical posts has a minor, tight 7" long split along the wood grain; this does not appear to reduce the stability of the post. Please excuse ... morethe glare in the photos. This chair has nice construction details. The height of the seat back is approximately 32 1/2 inches. From front to back. The chair is about 26 1/2 inches long. The width of the chair at the arms is approximately 24 1/2 inches. The seat is approximately 17 1/2 inches deep(front to back) the front of the seat is about 15 inches high. This would be a fine addition to a craftsman bungalow decor. Identification This antique L. and J.G. Stickley chair retains its original"THE WORK OF L. J.G. STICKLEY" paper label beneath one arm. As shown. It is circa early 20th century. Condition The chair looks good overall. It has its original leather seat. Which has wear and some staining. The finish appears to be original. The oak has minor nicks, scuffs, and dings, all of which are normal wear for an antique chair. The back side of one of the front vertical posts has a minor, tight 7" long split along the wood grain; this does not appear to reduce the stability of the post. An early 1900's,4 slat rear mission style solid oak rocking chair. i am not sure if this is a gustav stickley or a piece from another similar manufacturer of the time. The seat is heavy and obviously reupholstered in the native indian motif. This rocker is solid with no loose pieces whatsoever. It does have have some knicks and scratches from use, and will need a good cleaning with some murphys soap, but overall a super fine example. Please ask any and all questions before bidding. This is another great family piece. This was my grandfather's when he was a young child(born 1907) My late mother kept this chair forever. It has all the original mechanism brackets and bar. I think the cushions are not original. But are very old. They appear to have had buttons on them at one time. Cushions are not perfect, but are still very attractive on the chair. This is a nice one family owner piece with a great look and patina on the original finish. This has been carefully cared for throughout the years. Shows some minor wear being 100 years old and all, but far less than most still original examples that I have seen. The oldest sibling of my father's family in 1914 or so was the 1st user of this chair. We don't have room for it any more. It measures 25 1/4" high. 21" long rocking legs, 14" long arms with a 12" square seat. The seat cover now is a green velour fabric. Originally there was a leather cover for the seat. Under the seat fabric is a newer piece of wood for its bottom. There is a crack in the back of the chair that is shown in the last photo which does not go all the way through to the front. Excellent condition Americana mission style rope back rocking chair with a vintage head rest and cushion. The rope is near perfect. The cushions in very good condition but can use some"help" on the stitching given their age, and the wood is simply great. Look at the patina on the under hinges/supports! Stickley Mission Style Antique Reclining Rocking Chair Arts and Crafts Oak
Thank you for inspecting this antique(and VERY comfortable) mission style rocking chair! It is solid. Quarter sawn oak with 4 reclining settings. The reclining set-up is an elegant, patinaed metal rod and 4 hook brace(I believe made of cast iron) The oak frame has 3 repairable flaws. There is a slight crack(1/2” long) in one of the back support slats. In the same section there is a 1” crack in the back by the hinge. By the other back hinge there is a section that has old wood putty filler. These have all been photographed. I could easily fix them but since I am not an expert in antique furniture repair I did not know if my repair would reduce the collectability of this piece and so I thought I’d leave these repairs up to the buyer. It measures 42” tall at the back) 30” wide(at the arms) and 38” long(front to back) It folds down(without cushions) ... moreto 27” tall, 41” long(front to back) and 30” wide. There is a removable. Spring cushioned support that sits on the frame below the seat cushion. The green cushions are serviceable but you may want to some light repair on them or replace them as they have small(1/4” and smaller) thread loops(cat… and a flap cut at the zippered opening. The rich forest green has a background subtle paisley pattern stitched into the cloth upholstery. I really love the antique oak color with these dark green cushions! What I know: This chair was purchased from an antique dealer in Brookfield. MA about 25 years ago by my former wife and has been in my home since. My former wife stated that she paid‘a lot of money’ for it but was too shy to tell me how much-HA! The dealer said it was a very old and valuable piece and(of course) that she was getting a great deal. We’ve sat in it to watch TV, read or even nap countless times. I do not have the space for it in my new apartment so it needs a new home. Antique 1905 Stickley Oak& Leather Mission Style Rocking Chair- ALL ORIGINAL! This is a beauty! Stickley 1905- 1908 rocking chair- all ORIGINAL. The leather is beautifully worn in- no rips or tears. I would say. The leather is stiff and dry. It is cracking in some areas. Especially the back of the leather on the back rest cushion. The seat is the most supple. The rest of the leather is not supple. Could use some leather conditioning. I left everything the way it is. I don't want to do any damage. One of the leather straps on top that hold the leather cushion in place. That goes over the top of the chair, is nearly torn all the way. I would not put the leather strap over the back and side down. I would be worried the strap would rip. BEAUTIFUL chair- great condition. Especially considering the age. The oak wood is also original excellent ... morecondition- has some small nicks here and there. But overall excellent! This has not been refinished. This Stickley rocker is a rare find! The worn leather is awesome- hard to believe it is over 100 years old! Would be great in a home or office- such a classic look! If you would like more close up pics or have more questions. OAK ROCKING CHAIR. Mission-style. Arts and Crafts, solid oak slat side rocking arm chair. Made by Wisconsin Chair Company. Port Washington, WI, as evidenced by a label on the underside of the seat. Probably from the early 1900s; circa 1910? The company was in business from 1888-1954. Beautiful scroll detail at top of back and below the arms. Seat is indented for comfort. Chair is in good condition. With some wood plugs missing, some damage to back slats, various scratches, fading, etc. See pix. I am happy to provide more pix by email. Seat is constructed in 3 pieces joined together. Rabbet/dado joint? The pieces now have gaps between them.
