Antique Vintage c1930s Maple 3" Butcher Block Table Chicago Salvage Metal Base
This old butcher block table from the 1930s was salvaged from a Chicago meat packer and is in great vintage condition. The top has been sanded down and coated several times with tung oil to bring back its great sheen. Tung oil is an organic oil that is safe for food. Dings. Gouges and a few splits on the top are a character adding bonus and are consistent with age and use. The metal base is sturdy and stout and I believe the legs adjust in height(I didn’t try, but it looks like they screw up or down in order to level the top. It measures 36" w x 24" w x 34 ¼”h top is 3” thick. There is a stamp on the underside of the top that is not readable, but I included a photo of it anyway. This solid maple butcher block is dovetail construction and measurers 30x30 and 33 inches in high. About 400 pounds very heavy. It is on wheels,two of the legs have split wood but seems very strong. The story I received was it came from a butcher shop here in the Reno area a long time ago and was in an estate an long time also. It has cut marks being a chopping block it can be sanded I chose to leave the patina as is. I have no place for this piece in my home it might work in your home. Asking price is 800.00. Antique. Vintage amazingly well built butcher block in super nice condition, notice all the dovetail glue joints on the entire top(last 2 pix below) and the dent free metal caps. If you have been patient and waiting for a good useable butcher block. Your wait is over. I have sold several of these over the years. but never one in this good of condition, notice all the nice clean beveled edges and corners. As you will see in the pix below the top is not perfect but it is not all chewed up and there are plenty or level spots for placing objects. The glue joints on the legs have opened a little with age but they are still good and solid and should not be a problem. The legs are little shiny because I just got done putting a bit of tung oil on them. I did the same to the top the day before so it is dry for the pix. The block is 30"x30"x ... more29.5" tall. Local Pickup Only* My wife's mother purchased this from a butcher shop in a small rural Ohio town. In the 1970s. The butcher shop was updating to steel cutting tables, and this rare item went up for sale. It has graced our kitchen for decades, and we have reluctantly decided to sell it, as we need the space. It measures 40 inches long by 30 inches wide by 31 inches tall. The solid maple dovetailed top is 12 inches thick. And the top is reinforced with steel rods. It is very unusual to find one this large and in this condition. We have oiled it regularly, with mineral oil, and have never cut directly on the surface. There are a few knife marks from the original owner, but as you can see, the top is almost perfectly flat and level. It is not pitted and carved out, as are many that you will see for sale these days. It is very heavy. And ... morethe buyer will need to be able to move it out of our house, with a heavy duty dolly. The turned legs fit into the bottom of the block, and the weight of the unit holds them solidly in place. Once it is turned on end, the legs can be removed for transporting.

SIX LEG VINTAGE SOLID MAPLE BUTCHER BLOCK A&P MARKET 1900-1950, America, Brown
An old butcher block originating from one of the. No longer existing, A&P supermarkets(Atlantic&Pacific) The worn'scoop' areas that generally give butcher blocks their character. A bit difficult to see in these photos. And cutting/chopping marks in addition to some staining and chipped/cracked/gauged areas, show that this block was well used. Having six legs. Instead of the four-legged styles normally seen, gives it extra character. It looks as though the legs are removable. But they've never been removed since we've had it so I can't be certain. I was told that this butcher block is made of solid maple; I do not know its weight. I was not able to move it in order to photograph the other side. It is extremely heavy. We had no prepared place when we acquired it so it was moved into our basement, where it remains ... moreto this day. The two, really big guys who moved it had a very hard time with it. Instead of two, I would highly recommend at least four, really strong guys to move this. Block alone measures approximately 51 ½" x 11 ¼" x 36" With legs the height is approx. 29 ¾" The legs alone are approx. 18" H. I have NOT maintained this block in any way since its acquisition; no sanding. Oiling/finishing, repairs/filling or any other sort of maintenance have been done by me. This one has fabulous character with its'swooped' in top. The item was very well used. Not mint- used. Shows age. Probably never saw much use commercially because the top is nice and flat. So this table is a useable piece. Really cool rustic looking table. I bought this Butcher block approximately 30 years ago at an Antique Country auction. This is a number of solid slabs of Maple wood joined together to create a butcher block. It weighs an estimated 150+ pounds! There are numerous dings and gouges(some deep on the legs) This is to be expected because of the age and the weight of the wood. Please note the pictures to see the imperfections. This is going to be a stunning piece of furniture once it is cleaned up. Tightened up and polished. Measurements are 24”x24” square.
