Being offered for sale is this lovely Empire Mahogany Cedar Lined Blanket Chest with Removable Tray circa 1900. This large blanket chest was made by and marked: Paine Furniture Co. Boston, MA" The Paine Furniture Company was founded in Boston. Ma in 1835 by Leonard Shearer. In 1835 Boston was a small city, but the furniture industry was rapidly growing and in 1872 Shearer opened an huge Paine Furniture Co. Furniture Center. By 1914 Paine Furniture was operating from a ten-story showroom and factory. This fine blanket chest is executed in mahogany with a wonderful cedar lining that offers a lift out cedar tray. This large chest offers a tremendous amount of storage possibilities and features full ebonized Corinthian columns with gold accents at the top and base. Scroll front feet and ball back feet with the original casters intact all ... moreon four feet. This chest measures 28 3/4 inches in height.46 inches wide and 21 inches deep and weighs approximately 75 lbs. The lift our cedar tray measures 40 inches long,16 inches wide and 3 inches deep and features cut-out handles on each end. There are some veneer chips here and there on the lid edge and feet. The top does show surface scratches and a dark ring. Lock is intact but we do not have the key. On the inside of the lid by the lock there is additional wear and scratches around the brass lock and small metal braces have been added at some point in time to the right inside back corner. This chest is a wonderful piece to place at the foot of a bed for storage of blankets and linens and is solid and sturdy enough to be a seating area as well and offers substantial storage with classic style. If you send the serial number into the company, I believe they will send you a replacement lock, but right now it has no lock. The cabinet has a beautiful rope carved molded edge top, a simulated five-drawer raised panel front that really has one real drawer on the base. It’s also felt-lined for supplies. The cabinet sits upon wonderful detailed ball and claw cabriole carved legs with clamshell carvings right on the elbows, which is unbelievable. Rope molding across the front, clamshell carving across the simulated faux drawer in the center, and it retains its original brass Chippendale hardware. We have re-sprayed the top to bring out the beauty of the mahogany woods and veneers used in this chest. The company’s logo is burned into the interior. In excellent condition. Great mahogany graining and patina. One spot on the top as seen in the first picture The chest is 56-3/4" wide. 23" deep, and 27" high, with a hinged top. It is lined in 1/2 inch cedar. Hand made about 1935. Local pickup only. Vintage Lane Cedar Chest. With Hepplewhite type drawer pulls. Has two faux drawers and one full functioning drawer on the bottom. This chest needs refinishing or some work. They put a television on top of it and it caused severe scratching across(see pictures. the top. There is also scrape-like marks with what feels like bubbled paint remenants on both sides. The chest is sturdy. It closes and locks. But we dont have the key. There is small bit of peel to the bottom of the inside laminate on bottom inside(picture) It has the all original Lane signs and disclosures inside the chest. This could be a really beautiful piece of American Furniture History with a little fixing up. The good thing about this chest is it does not bear any smells. 1948 ROOS mahogany cedar chest w/ cedar draw at the bottom in really nice condition. Has the original tag on the inside of the top. the lock and latch are there, but no key- it is in the unlocked position. the latch clicks shut and the button must be pushed to open it up( works as it should) you could probally find a key for it if so desired. Nice ornate mahagany woodworking decorates it fantastically! excellent patina. very solid piece of furniture. has some very minor scuffs and light scratches- nothing major or an eyesore. one small crack in the front right corner( approx 3/4" long) that is hardly noticable and does not effect it's looks/ function or sturdiness. the picture makes the crack look worse than it really is. overall size is approx 40w x 32h x 19L. the chest is 37wx 16deep x 16L and the bottom draw is approx 35wx 15Lx ... more8 1/2deep. local pick up only. you need to have your own truck and movers. payment must be cleared before moving it. 16713 Mahogany Chippendale Ball and Claw Cedar Chest
PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO SEE ADDITIONAL PHOTOS We are pleased to be offering today this gorgeous ball and claw Chippendale carved front Philadelphia style low boy cedar chest that was made back in the 1940s to 1950s. I don't see a tag of who made this particular blanket chest. But they were a classy act. This one is gorgeous with a clam shell carving on the raised center, applied carvings in the middle, carved columns down the corners and ends in ball and claw cabriole style feet. It retains the original Chippendale style brass hardware. The top has a multi-molded ogee bevel edge. The top opens very easily, as the lock has been disabled, and exposes a very deep cedar lined interior that is 38 inches wide, 17 inches deep and 14 inches high. Someone has taken all the paperwork off the inside of the top as you can see that the original staples ... moreare all intact. I believe that this is probably by Cavalier, by the style of hardware. The lock has been disabled, provides tons of storage and has the wonderful cedar smell. The overall size is 42 inches wide, 20.5 inches deep and 31 inches high. It is beautiful overall with minor surface scratches on the face. We have refinished the top to remove the nicks and dings.
