This antique steamer trunk was made by LOUIS VUITTON and features their signature monogram canvas! This amazing antique piece measures a whopping 40"L x 20"D x 21.5"H, Which makes it PERFECT for use as a decorative coffee table(which can also hold TONs of your stuff! As you can see in my photos. This baby has history! The trunk shows patina on the monogram canvas and hardware. Which just adds to it's character if you ask me! There is some damage to the canvas on one side- see photo below- but the trunk is sturdy and absolutely ready for display! And if you look closely. A previous owner tacked two skinny strips of carpet to the bottom sides to avoid floor scratching. You can easily remove these as they are simply tacked in place! Original Louis Vuitton Monogramed Steamer Trunk circa 1910-1920" This highly detailed Vuitton Trunk is an amazing survivor. Its extensive brass fittings(including the brass rivets) bear the"LV" stamp as does the leather trim work. The brass locking clasp is marked with"70 CHAMPS ELYSEES PARIS LOUIS VUITTON LONDON 149 NEW BOND STREET MADE IN FRANCE" The inside of the lid is marked with the number 737608 in black ink. Its condition strikes us as quite amazing. And the characteristic imprinted fabric is in splendid condition. The two leather strap handles at either end of the trunk are not in place, but one handle survives in part and is included in this auction. The interior tray is missing, although the handsome monogramed fabric covered interior of the top is in beautiful shape. Labels and ID number are intact and ... moreappear where they should be. ANTIQUE LOUIS VUITTON ROUNDED TOP LEATHER STEAMER TRUNK CIRCA 1854 to 1867
This is a numbered leather rounded top steamer trunk circa 1854 to 1867. The company started in 1854 and in 1867 changed the look to canvas and the top to a flat surface for better stacking. This trunk has a little recent damage to one outside corner from my daughters cats scratching but I think that can be smoothed out with the right tool. The trunk is over 100 years old so the outside is worn but it is in good condition in spite of the scratches. The inside is in beautiful condition with a wonderfully intack. Clean tray and 3 compartments below the tray with the ties still there to hold your clothes down? The outside leather handles are still there and in good condition. I never allowed anyone to move the trunk by using these handles. I also have a key to the trunk. There are, it seems to me, old European hotel sticker marks on the outside. ... moreI actually have some of these old, beautifully colored stickers from the 1950's or earlier that I would sell separtley. This trunk is early 1890's. It is in beautiful condition for a 120-year-old steamer trunk. It has a very low serial number 15792. You can see in the photos the steel bottom with the Louis Vuitton stamp on both ends. With the steel bottom and wooden slats. This trunk is very sturdy. It has the original casters. The outside of the trunk has been stained. But the stripes from the original fabric are very visible. The inside is covered with the original pink striped ticking. It does have staining and wear on the inside. The original locks have been changed by a previous owner. Dimensions are: 43 inches long, 27.5 inches high, 24 inch depth. It has all the original hardware with 5 wheels(4 on the bottom and 1 on the side) and 2 handles. The wheel on the side allows the trunk to open easily when it stands on one end. This was convenient when it was used as a wardrobe trunk. The monogram canvas. LV trunks are highly collectible but the stories behind them make them all unique and sought after. These are from the late 1800s to early 1900s. They have been together for years and I don't want to seperate them. These belonged to my client's uncle. He was a Superintendent in the building 1115 5th Avenue. New York NY. The story goes that he was given these by a resident. He never used them or traveled with them and passed them on to his neice. The original owner of the cases traveled first class on the Famous SS United States Cruise Liner from New York to Paris as indicated by the stickers. I don't know if it was the maiden voyage. I do know John Carradine traveled on the ship but I can't say these are his. There were a lot of very famous people that lived in the 1115 5th Ave Buidling as well as those that traveled on that ship. The smaller case measures 28 X 17 X 8.5. It has the LV Sticker inside 149 New Bond Street, 70 Champs Elysees Paris. The serial number on the lock is 071745. The larger case. Steamer trunk is 44 x 21.5 x13. This one has the initials DTA in red and has the Paris stamp from the US Lines and the First Class H stamp on it. The serial number on the lock is 045509. I've included a brief history of the ship below. You can buy additonal items from the ship right here on Ebay as they were auctioned a few years ago. These case would make a great coffee table. Bedside stands or just a fun display piece. They are in quite good condition. They have not been exposed to smoke and are clean smelling inside. This is a true vintage authentic Louis Vuitton trunk. It has been in my friend's attic since 1925 and before that was used by her mother"E. L. M. before she was married. The trunk has the initials of her maiden name on one end overprinted by the stenciled"MV" for her last name after she married. My friend is 86 years old. There are shipping labels on the trunk from travel about 100 years ago. This is a complete steamer trunk with the fittings that allowed it to be used as a closet on a cruise liner or in a luxury hotel. The trunk has four casters on the base and is missing one caster on the end that swings open when it is used as a closet. It has original hangers on the rack on one side and bins for shoes and underthings on the other side. The top bin contains a shoe brush and cloth and a vintage tag for shoe repair. It ... morealso has a muslin laundry bag. It shows the appropriate scuffs from use. It is marked lavishly with Louis Vuitton tags. As well as the logo on the outside. There is the serial number"040783, Made in France" on the lock and the serial number 192713 inside the suitcase. It is clean and does not have any smells or damage other than the missing caster. It is 43& 1/4" long, 21& 3/4" deep and 21& 3/4" tall. Shipping costs will be determined once the trunk has been purchased. It is about 90 pounds and very large so will need specialty shipping. This antique Louis Vuitton steamer trunk most likely dates to the turn of the 20th century. I would guess the early 1900s based on my research. I do have an inquiry placed with Louis Vuitton to try to determine exact purchase date and price, which they say they may be able to supply me with. This fine piece of luxury luggage is in very good vintage condition with wear consistent with it's age and use. It is a wood strapped. Cloth bound, steamer trunk covered in the classic and desirable LV monogram canvas exterior. The trunk's interior label. Stating it's Paris and London origins, is perfectly intact. The adjacent stamped serial or maker's#143620 is easily readable and suggests a best guess date of production to be circa early 1900's. The trunk measures approximately 43" wide, 22" deep, and 23" tall. There is also the family name of"Gemley" imprinted clearly on both ends of the trunk. The cloth interior of the trunk is very clean and in very good condition. It is free of rips. Tears, or splits, and there are no stains or odors. This same description applies to the 2 interior trays ... moreor drawer inserts. The 2 levels of storage compartment trays are fully intact including all woven straps, tie downs, and carrying handles. The trunk's exterior is in good to very good overall condition. All Louis Vuitton factory marked tacks are intact and accounted for. The two metal side carrying handles are still intact. Secure, and strong. The trunk's bottom is in great condition and the wood support bars are intact and not split or broken. The Key to the trunk's lock has been lost to history, like it's original owner's memories of long ago travel. And 40.5" long. There is some tarnishing of the tacks, and discoloration of the leather strip around a few tacks on the base only. We assume it was stored standing up on the base. This old trunk is a beautiful example of the Louis Vuitton monogram pattern trunks made since 1896 in Paris. A real classic! This is a wardrobe style trunk that was designed to hold hanging clothes. When stood upright and opened in the center this would be like a personal closet and the clothes rod pulls out to allow easy access to the hanging clothes. This trunk has the original marked wood hangers. The exterior LV monogrammed covering is in excellent condition with only minimal signs of wear.Even the large leather handle is in good condition. It does show signs of normal vintage wear for being over 100 yrs old. But with that wear and patina comes character and a story of elegant taste well traveled. For sale is an rare antique Louis Vuitton coffee table sized steamer trunk from the 1920's. It measures 43"x 21 1/2"x12 1/2" and has the monogram pattern and all the matching LV hardware. It is 100% original. All of the nails are stamped and branded LV. The interior is in very good condition with no tears in the quilted silk patterned top and just a couple of stains in the bottom storage area. It is missing the original tray insert. The original Louis Vuitton paper label is intact and is not torn. The serial number is stamped and very clear-189940. The trunk has a few scuffs and a couple of cracks on the top but it is in good overall condition. A piece of the wooden runner on the bottom is missing. Otherwise. Antique 1909 Louis Vuitton steamer trunk in very good original condition
This beautiful 1909 Louis Vuitton monogrammed trunk(serial# 167505) was used by Nettie(nee Becker) Carlson when she emigrated from Germany to Whitewater. Wisconsin, in the early 1900’s. It has been unused and well preserved in a closet since 1968. One of the front panels was lightly painted over(see photo) but no other changes or restorations have been made. It has all original elements, including the leather top strap and two removable compartments, except for one inside compartment divider and the key to the lock. Both compartments contain fabric enclosures with LV brass buckles and LV name on fabric straps. There is some expected wear but the trunk is in very fine overall condition. The lock is stamped and marked Louis Vuitton London. This sleeping treasure went unnoticed by my family for over 40 years because of it's worn leather exterior; we never even noticed the Louis Vuitton markings on the brass latches. This was my grandfather's trunk. And currently bears his initials I.W.H on one side. As far as we know, he was the second owner. I made an e-mail inquiry to the Louis Vuitton Patrimonie department, and they responded in writing: According to our files and your photographs, your trunk with the inside number 152686 might be a trunk sold in 1907. My grandfather was stationed in France during WWI, but I am not sure if he acquired it there. Crafted by Louis Vuitton. This turn-of-the-century Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk is a wonderful example of the fine workmanship and enduring style the company is known for. The trunk has been authenticated and dated by Louis Vuitton's Heritage Department. According to their records, the trunk was originally purchased in 1904. The inside serial number is 134982, and the number on the exterior lock is 09772. Measuring 39.5" long. 21.5" wide, and 23" deep, the exterior canvas is hand-stenciled with the signature LV monogram. No color enhancer or surface chemicals have been applied to the exterior of the trunk to alter its appearance. Louis Vuitton signature marking can be seen on the hardware, with a beautiful natural aged patina. All of the hinges, metal handles, rollers, and latches are original and in working order. The trunk ... morestill retains several amazing vintage travel stickers dating back to the early 1900’s steamship era. One is the White Star Line- Paris Cherbourg and Southampton to New York(same route and company as the Titantic! This trunk traveled the world with its stylish owner. E.W. Complete with five canvas drawers four of which have linen straps with brass closures marked Louis Vuitton. The drawers are all in great shape for over 100 years! Though there is some damage on a few spots on the linen wrapped drawers this would be expected being over 100 years old and well used. The top is padded and silk lined with the 1910 Louis Vuitton label and that of John Wanamaker. I have included below the historical info on both and how they came to work together. Large Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk - Late 19th Early 20th Century
A classic. Large Louis Vuitton monogram-canvas steamer trunk ~ Serial Number 107118. This trunk has resided in California until recently. We are retiring. And de-acquisitioning some of our'old friends. The trunk has been treasured by three generations in our family. It measures 43.5” x 22.5” x 23” The structural condition is excellent. There is wear as can be expected given the trunk’s age and historical use as luggage. All the authenticating LV markings on brass fittings are visible. All the brass fittings(the handles on each end and front clasps) are in good. Working condition. Some exterior leather has a fair amount of wear. There is(old) staining in the fabric on the inside lid of the trunk, and some staining on the inserts. No mold or bad smells. The trunk is just‘old. It has resided in a smoke-free home. The original owner’s name ... moreand location are painted on the ends in traditional colors. There are quaint. Hand-written paper labels No. 1 Plain and No. 2 Plain on the tray inserts. Plain what? we have wondered all these years. Two tray inserts are included with their original straps. Louis Vuitton is woven into these straps. The beautifully-crafted design and maker’s name are imprinted on the metal strap buckles. The trunk's tin bottom is in good shape including the four original. Functioning metal wheels. Photos show specifics of wear: one brass LV grommet was replaced(before our time) with a plain nail; places of wear to the canvas. Leather and interior. Rarely Found Original Antique 1920s 30s Vintage Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk Cargo Tray. These are always missing and rarely found on their own. This would have gone inside an LV monogram era steamer trunk or large luggage case. It is a cloth covered wooden frame with 2 lift handles and 2 tie down straps each with heavy brass buckle marked: Louis Vuitton Brevete" and on reverse"Paris.
