It's a circa 1900 English Queene Anne style burlwood and walnut library armchair. The construction and carvings are super with the shell carved knees and the fan in the center. It has a stretcher connecting the top front rail to the rear back stretcher. You only see the on high quality pieces. The burl wood with a slight cleaning will jump out at you. The curved arms and the carvings at the top and bottom of the rear splat just add to desirability of this great chair. But it's the needlepoint seat of the 2 Sottish Terriers the send it over the top. It's a SUPER chair. There is some separation in some spots of the veneer. Which is common it these antique chairs. Not a big deal really. And it could prob use a good cleaning. The chair though has no old repairs. There are a few very small veneer chips which I pictured,and it's very sturdy. Antique Miniature Upholstered Library Easy Chair Salesman Sample Furniture This remarkable miniature salesman sample chair measures 8 3/4” high x 8” wide. The seat is 5 1/2” deep and the overall depth is 9” The front legs are nicely tapered and the back angled legs are wood. Possibly mahogany. The seat. Back and arms are upholstered in a fine soft yellow fabric and it has a removable cushion. This library chair, along with a matching Chippendale camel-back sofa and another upholstered easy chair and Pembroke drop leaf table were purchased as a set at an antique show in Santa Monica in 1987. At that time they were said to be 64 years old. Putting them at circa 1923, though they may well be older. The dealer had purchased them in Rockport. Illinois as salesman samples. The construction and upholstery all indicates that they were in fact made ... moreas salesman samples and not as apprentice pieces or doll furniture. The joints are tight with no wobbly bits or cracks. The silk fabric is fragile and in rough. Shabby chic condition consistent with age. There are splits in the fabric and some staining. The piping on the front lower arm edge has detached. No attempt to restore or repair the chair has been made and it is in original condition. Please study the photos with the zoom feature to see these issues. This piece is incredibly charming despite the condition of the fabric and displays beautifully. It is extremely rare to find miniature upholstered pieces of this style and age. As most have not survived the years. Antique Library Ladder Chair / Cleaning Out 100 Year Old House
Up for auction is a Antique Library Ladder Chair. Let's get to the condition. The chair looks to have been green at some point. It has all been stripped down to bare wood. It will still need some elbow grease to get it totally clean. There is a crack in one of the boards and depending on what you have in mind for this piece will determine if you should replace it or leave it as is. I have seen these used for all kinds of display ideas. From plant stands to displaying different collections. I would replace some of the screws due to them feeling stripped out when trying to tighten them down. The chair has a nice solid feel to it but if you are going to use this for a ladder, I would make sure you go through it. It was in a 100 year old homes workshop on the bench. It looks like someone was right in the middle of working on it. Chair stands ... morea total of 35" tall as a chair and about 16" wide. As a ladder, it stands 35" tall as well with4 steps. Vintage Boling Bankers or Library Chair. This chair was in service in North Carolina and withstood the test of time. It is extremely sturdy and in good shape. There is some wear is on the arms and a small spot on the seat so look at the photos. There are scuffs on the legs as would be expected for a chair this age. This chair was made by the Boling Company of Siler City and I would guess it to be early to mid century. It still has the tag. It is a caramel color. I have another one that is the same style and color. Ca. that was auctioning off a number of their antiques back in the 70's. It is oak and has the original seat. I had an off white cover on it originally. It certainly can be recovered. The design is rather straight forward. Due to its design and proportion, it suggests an antique Bishop's chair in a Mission style. It is in good condition. I do see a small nick the right side of the front right arm. Dimensions: Back of chair: 48 1/2" Seat is wider in front: 22' gradually tapering to 20" Seat height: 19 1/4" from floor.
