MASTERPIECE..1920's Maple Highboy Craftsman Arts& Crafts Antique Dresser Chest
Circa late 1920's.spectacular solid maple Shaker/Craftsman style chest of drawers It was love at first sight when I saw this wonderful classic chest of drawers at an estate sale. It was in need of much love and attention! I knew it had the makings for greatness. This is a first class dresser all the way. It is made from solid maple. Not veneers.The solid maple knobs are fantastic as you can easily see, they are all original other than 1 which was missing, I had a master wood turner make an exact replica of an existing knob. the detailed turnings are rare& beautiful. The back panel on the chest is new.The chest has 2 upper drawers and 4 lower drawers.I restored each drawer by taking them apart. Then regluing and clamping.I custom made many drawer glides and runners. The drawers feature dovetail joinery at all four corners.The drawer ... moresides are made of solid maple 9/16" thick, that is virtually unheard of quality in a dresser made today. One of the finest features of this dresser is the beautiful maple with all of its beauty marks and lovely natural grains including some birdseye. Tiger graining and other beautiful figuring.There are also some darker brown areas which add to the look and character. There are some age related shrinkage cracks(non-structural) in the lower portion of the side panels.approx, 4-5" long. I think they add great aged character to the piece. The maple pegs in the top and on the lower front skirt trim are an awesome quality detail. This"diamond in the rough" was hidden under a very worn opaque finish. It had a brown tinted laquer finish(popular in its day) which hid all of the lovely grain you see now.I chose to showcase the natural maple wood and pegs.I hand rubbed many. Many coats of varnish on this dresser giving it a wonderful look, bringing out the lovely wood grains, providing wonderful depth and protecting the wood. Of course like any fine antique. Selling this beautiful antique oak highboy chest in Excellent condition. Pulls are perfect and each drawer has it's own functional lock. The chest looks good all the way around and measures 46" high by 34" wide by 15" deep. Check out the drawer joints on this piece. See pic#3. If anyone can tell me what the joint is called or give me some info on it, that would be most welcome. Anyway getting back to business. There are a couple of discoloration spots on top and at the top of the backsplash the wood is chipped. It can only be seen from the back. Otherwise excellent shape. A gorgeous American Highboy with removable Bonnet Top dating to circa 1930. We are pleased to present this exceptional American Highboy for your consideration. Loaded with quality touches. The Highboy dates to circa 1930, and is made from Mahogany, with Curly Maple used as a secondary wood in the interior. The Bonnet Top is easily removable if you prefer a cleaner look(see picture 6 for a view with the Top removed) Drawers feature dovetails both at the front and back, and each Drawer has a separator board, so it fits into its own compartment(another sign of the quality construction) Cabriolet legs with Claw and Ball feet support the unit. A compartment at bottom center has its original fabric liner and looks like it was designed to hold a hat. The Highboy measures 62-1/2 inches high. Exclusive of the Bonnet which has two dowels which hold ... moreit in place(add 11-1/2 inches for the height of the seated Bonnet) The width is 40 inches with depth 23 inches, measured at the widest point which is at the feet. The unit is not too difficult for two people to move, if the drawers are removed first. We estimate the total weight at around 175 pounds(with drawers in place) Locks are mounted in several Drawers. But no key came with the unit. We may be able to find a key that fits, so please inquire as to availability if you need one. Wear on the Highboy is quite minimal for its age. The finish would benefit from a light application of Orange Oil to remove dust. But is quite nice as-is. There are no areas of damage, mold, or other issues, and we rate the overall condition as very good to excellent. All pictures show the actual piece you will receive. NICE Solid Mahogany Dresser & Highboy Chest Beautifull Carved Fluted Columns NR
This is a super nice antique vintage dresser& highboy. This is made from solid mahogany wood and very solid and strong with no loose joints. All the drawers are dovetailed and made from solid wood. These both include all the original decorative brass drawer pulls and keyholes along with super nice carved top fluted columns. Dresser has 4 drawers and Highboy has 5 drawers. Dresser measures 36 3/4" tall. 45" wide and 20 3/4" deep. Dresser is also marked on back No. 310. Highboy is 51 1/4" tall, 36" wide and 20 3/4" deep. These are both in beautiful condition with original patina with only very light scratches and rubs from age and use. There is a small spot on the bottom edge of the side of dresser where a small chip of wood is missing shown in pictures and also a spot on side of chest where it appears someone ... moretried to rub the finish a bit. Im sure this is an easy fix but I will leave that to the new owner or professional. As always I sell all my items as is so please ask any and all questions before bidding.
