Vintage Trunk Rare Henry Likly Antique
Trunk made by Henry Likly of Rochester. N.Y. established 1844. Beautiful show piece. In original state, has not been reconditioned. This rare American trunk was beautifully made. Measures 30 1/2" Wide. 13 1/2" High, 18" Deep. Missing leather handle on right side(shown in picture) No key with this. This is a solid trunk. Antique Henry Likly Wardrobe Steamer Trunk! Looks to be complete except for key! Very hard to find complete! This piece is very unique and hard to find! It is also very big and heavy. I dont know much about these but from what I have researched about the company Which Follows: Manufacturer: Henry Likly. The Henry Likly Trunk Company was established in 1844 as A.R. T.H. Pritchard. Upon graduating from school Henry Likly took an apprenticeship with A.R& T.H.Pritchard and mastered his ... moretrade in the trunk manufacturing industry.In January of 1868 Mr. Likly was given a partnership in the company. The company then became A.R. T.H. Pritchard& Company. Three years later it became A.R. Pritchard& Likly.When Henry Likly and his brother in-law became the sole proprietors of the business the name was changed to Henry Likly& Company. This was the name from 1870 when A.R. Pritchard retired until 1925 when it simply became"Likly's"As far as I can tell the company was ran by his children after his death in 1897. In New York State the Henry Likly trunk company was the largest factory of its time. Located at 340 Lyell Ave in Rochester N.Y. the factory covered two acres of land. The building was 4 stories tall and utilized 60,000 square feet of space. During this period it was one of the best equipped manufacturing plants in the United States. The first floor was where the lumber was sawed and prepared, the second floor was the woodworking and box shop where the frames were made, the third floor was designated for trimming and finishing, and the top floor was probably reserved for the executives, sales and accounting. Manufactured by the HENRY LIKLY CO. New York. This antique Flat Top Steamer Trunk is a great example of the fine workmanship this company is known for. The pictures don't do justice to this awesome piece! It has beautiful oak slats on the top and surrounding the body of the trunk. Measuring 36" long, 20 1/2" wide, and 24 3/4" deep, this Steamer Trunk has 2 Henry Likly labels. The silver label on the top of the trunk reads" Established in 1844 Henry Likly& Co. Makers Rochester, N.Y. Inside the lid is a label that reads"Henry Likly& Co. Makers Rochester New York Established 1844" The front original lock, made by the Eagle Lock Co. comes with a working key. There is a wonderful old Railway Express Agency tag on the bottom. Circa early 1900's. This Henry Likly Flat Top Trunk is in good vintage condition ... moreconsidering its age and t he exterior has been restored with black paint. As pictured. Up for auction is this awesome Antique Henry Likly Steamer Trunk. Made in Rochester. NY. This trunk measures approx 36" X 21" X 13" It's in amazing condition for something that was made in the very early 1900's. No significant bumps or bruises.just some marks as you would expect given what these steamers go through with baggage handling years ago. All hinges, latches and metal corners look great. Leather straps are strong. no tears. Divider shelf included. Inside lined with contact paper. Vintage Railway and Hotel Stickers still on it. Lock works great! I have a key. I repeat. I have a key! Antique Henry Likly Flat Wooden Slat Steamer Trunk Chest. Dated back to 1905. FREE SHIPPING! We'll pay the shipping to 48 States. Antique Steamer Trunk Chest made in 1905. The trunk bears the maker's mark(badge) on top over the lock: Henry Likly& Co. Makers. Rochester, NY, Established 1844, Trade Mark This is a Flat Top trunk. Which makes it particularly good for use as a coffee table. This is an older restoration and all the original hardware and materials are still there. The refinish is not perfect and still maintains much of the same appearance it did as when Henry Likly first delivered the trunk. It has been in a home that used it everyday and never left in storage not being used. This trunk originally came with Leather Straps. Fragments of which still remain. This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Refinished and stained. The ... morelock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is intact with a few rips or scuffs. The fabric has been sealed to stay bonded to the wood. The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has been recoated and looks great with the pings and dings from being around a 100 plus years. The leather handles on the ends are now gone. New leather is needed there. Inside. The fabric covering is intact and in decent condition. The interior has zero smell and not mildewed.
