Condition: Used Location: Ashland, United States Up for bid is a wonderful 6-stack Globe Wernicke lawyers or barristers bookcase made of quartersawn oak. All sections are the very desirable Grade 299(quarter ... moresawn/tiger oak with the medium finish) Has the very desirable ogee(curved) top and bottom. All sections are size D-10 1/4. Bookcase is ALL ORIGINAL. Original finish. Original wavy glass, original knobs on the doors. Bookcase is ALL COMPLETE. All labels are present and intact. All glass is present(no cracks or breaks) All felt along the tops of the doors is complete and intact. All scissors mechanisms are present. All acid-etched side bands are correct and present. I rescued over 20 sections from a storage room of an old Chicago school library, and these 6 sections were in the best condition. Condition of the sections is way above average for their age. After 100 years the finish on these cases has usually"alligatored" Not here. Although there are the usual scratches and chips in the finish, which is to be expected(there is a rub of white paint on the right side of one section shown in the photos) the outside finish is overall extremely smooth with a nice gloss. The very top has the most wear and scratches as the librarians slid and stacked items on top of the cases. There is also the reside from 2 old pieces of cellophane tape on the front of the top. I can find no delamination of the back panels, nor any bubbling of the veneer on the very top. Being in a library for so many years has preserved them nicely. Overall size of the bookcase is 84" tall x 34" wide x 12" deep. If you need more photos. Or have additional questions, please email me. Never had another ... morelike it. Excellent cosmically and both doors operate perfectly. It measures approximately 41-1/2” high, 34” wide and 11” deep. The shelves measure 14” high and 12” high inside, so this is large for a 2-shelf. According to the labels, they are “Pattern 813” and “Pattern 811”. Both are also marked “Grade 299”. It has a replacement base that’s a great match and is better constructed than what it would’ve come with. Local pickup only due to size and how fragile these are, sorry. Has some pretty bad warping and peeling on the top panel, and some small cracks to the back paneling as well. Since it is a top piece it is still very useful as most of the damage would not be visible. Rest of the piece is in reasonably good condition, but could use a new varnish. Nice Globe Wernicke bookcase. Two pieces of the leaded glass are cracked but no sharp edges, could be used as is. There is some veneer lifting on the top as well as a small piece missing( see photos) These are grade 299 1/2, 3) are size d 8 1/2 and(1) is one size D 12 1/4. The D 12 1/4 has some gold crackle finish on the glass. If you know what this is called please let me know and I will upgrade the listing. There is a drawer in the base. Some of the label in the leaded glass section is missing. You can clearly see the size and grade. Antique Globe Wernicke Barrister Top $ Base Quartersawn Oak Grade 299
Real nice Globe Wernicke Barrister Top and barrister base. Contour top with original bands. Original finish. 34 inches wide. About 10 1/2 inches wide and 3 1/4 inches tall for the top. Same for the base but the base is taller. 5-6 inches I guess. This is a rarer size and fits sections that are 9 1/2 deep. Outstanding oak grain. Has a small nick that I photoed. Not major. The top is lovely. The piece of wood that goes across the base has a section that splintered off but is still in good shape. Works fine and is very stable I have a photo of it on a matching base. Very rare Globe Wernicke 3/4 size barrister bookcase. This is original. Not cut down. Approximately 25 1/2" wide. Stands about 43 1/2" tall. 5 pieces. Top, bottom, 2) 8 1/2" sections, and(1) 10 1/4" section. Grade 299. D size. Original quartersawn white oak. Original wavy glass. Early label makes this a pre-1922 bookcase. In very nice condition. Top may have slight touchup, but great, beautiful condition. Extemely hard to find.

A very fine antique. Circa 1900, Globe-Wernicke quartersawn oak four stack bookcase with cap and base. The graduated stacks are all style 299, sizes: 08-1/2" 010-1/2" 012-1/2" All doors lift up and retract well, all original wavy glass panels. Top stack hardwood base board has minor warping. All brass knobs present. Unit measures 59-1/2" tall by 34" wide by 12-1/2" deep, the shelves 9-1/2" deep. Very good plus condition: oak boards without chips or cracks, original finish(some wear to finish on top cap. All glass panels without damage. I will combine shipping on multiple purchases whenever possible. Here is an individual stack or section from an antique barrister bookcase made by the Globe-Wernicke Co in Ohio. These are generally universal and can be interchanged so that you can have two stacks or 8 stacks. Depending on your preference. This section measures 34 inches long, is 9-7/8 inches deep, and is 13 inches tall. It is in very good original condition with original finish, nice patina, and original label and hardware, including metal straps. It is Size C-11, Grade 299.
