House condition means that it came right out of a home. It came from a home on the south shore of Massachusetts. It shows minor wear marks here and there. It has a breadboard writing lid that opens to expose a multi-cubby hole interior with raised panel drawer fronts on the interior. It is missing one knob on the drawers on the interior. It has a center carved door and two cleverly hidden compartments behind the pillars. The supports pull out to support the lid when opened. The interior has a few wear marks, which is normal for this type of desk. It has the grill work on the top.

Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. The desk is a reproduction made by the Maddox Table Co. of Jamestown, New York. This desk comes right out of the New England estate. The desk has those wonderful features most folks are looking for, such as all-wood drawers with dovetail corners, and clawed feet. The hardware and locks are the originals that came with the desk, not replacements. The desk was in my family for around ... more60 or so years, so the desk dates to at least 1950, and it may be older than that- I'm just not sure. The desk is the slant-front style, hinged at the bottom, so it opens up and the front lays flat to become the writing surface; the desk front can be locked. When the desk front is opened and lowered into the writing position, two arms come out automatically to support the writing surface. Inside the desk there are 3 small drawers, and holders for stashing letters and so forth. In the center of the opened desk, inside, there is a closed compartment with no lock; the compartment door is scratched. There are 3 drawers below the writing surface that extend almost the full width of the desk, and each one of them can be locked. These drawers have a graceful bow front(see photos) Above the desk itself is a prominent feature, a bookcase with 2 shelves covered by hinged glass doors that swing out and can be locked. The bookcase doors do not line up 100% vertically when closed, a common problem with these desks. American Vintage Governor Winthrop Break Front Desk Secretary Desk This is a vintage American Governor Winthrop break front secretary desk that is made out of Walnut(walnut has long been used for fine furniture because of its fine grain. And walnut is a good quality which make the furniture last a long time) and the with hand carved Chippendale feet. Kling was produced by Kling between 1911 and 1923. Then between 1924 and 1930, Kling offered furniture made of French Walnut and American Walnut in which they were described as"Butt Walnut, selected veneer, and"combination walnut. Governor Winthrop Chippendale Style Desk Secretary This beautiful piece of furniture is in very fine condition and is a great example of a type of quality and craftsmanship not easily found anymore in today's furniture. Mahogany build with dove-tailed drawers. Four large dove-tailed drawers on bottom section. Inside middle are three drawers and a doored-compartment. The key for opening the middle section is included. The middle section has two ornamental pillars next to the small door in the middle. These two pillars slide out to reveal compartments. Beautiful Mahogany Governor Winthrop Desk with Bookcase Hutch
This M ahogany Winthrop Desk with Bookcase Hutch is beautiful despite over one hundred years of history with the original family. T here are areas that have evidence of this history. But this just adds to the charm, and most buyers prefer not to eliminate the original patina. The classic elements of a Governor Winthrop desk are seen in the top broken arch pediment with a flame finale. The serpentine base, the drop front which reveals the secretary units and hidden compartments, and the ball and claw feet front and rear. The muntins behind the glass have had to be removed, and were replaced with an etched-look Victorian floral design. The desk still retains the original brass Chippendale hardware.

This Desk is complete and Solid The Left Bookcase door has a catch to hold it shut and the right door locks with the original key as does the desk top and the 3 drawers. Vintage Governor Winthrop Drop Front Slant Secretary Desk Claw Ball Feet Maddox
This Winthrop slant top ball and claw secretary desk dates from the 1940s. It has all the original brass Chippendale hardware on the front. As you open up the breadboard writing surface. Automatic extensions come out to support the writing lid and it also exposes a wonderful multi-cubby hole section with 3 deep drawers. This interior has a carved door storage area and two cleverly designed units behind multi turn spindle posts. When I was little my parents always used to hide things in those drawers and it took us years to figure out where they were. This desk was made by Maddox out of Buffalo. NY they were well known for their high quality and stylish furniture. It is simply stunning in its Ebony/black finish. It is large, yet perfect as a multi tasking piece of furniture for smaller homes or apartments. Drop draw front open/closes fine ... moreand gives you a large work surface which when closed this desk is perfect for a small space as it is slimmer than most. When drop front is down it measures 31 1/2" deep. Giving you a large writing/work area. Measures: 31 1/2" long x 10" deep. The top part, the middle is 17 1/2" deep and the bottom is 18 1/2" deep, it is 41 3/4" tall. There are 4 drawers that measure as follows: the top two are 3 3/4" tall, the bottom two are 5" tall. These drawers are deep and this secretary holds a lot of items. The compartments are deep and large and there are two side secret stashing vertical drawers. They come in handy for storing private items as one can't tell they exist, see our story above. This piece is very heavy as it is solid wood. Large claw foot feet with hardwood floor soft pads to prevent your hardwood flooring from scratching. If you have carpet. Then just remove these pads. We are offering this item at a bargain price. Vintage Governor Winthrop Desk with Serpentine draws and claw feet. Stands approximately 41" and is 33" wide. Clean compartments and smooth working draws with key. Stain is red mahogany and is in good shape but bears signs of use.
