Knob width at the TOP DIAMETER is 1 3/16" TOTAL KNOB HEIGHT is 7/8" BASE WIDTH IS 1/2" These are the correct size and profile for the drawer bases for Globe Wernicke® and Macey stack units(although they work great for Gunn, Lundstrum, Weis, Danner and others as well) There were at least 8 different styles of knobs. This style was the most prominent and the best made of the 4 cast versions. It is made of polished brass and then aged to match your original knobs. The aging and burnish process takes a 5 step process and can be hazardous to perform. The aging/burnishing is done at essentially cost. See our ad for Aging Solution. Condition: Used Location: Ashland, United States Up for bid is a wonderful 6-stack Globe Wernicke lawyers or barristers bookcase made of quartersawn oak. All sections are the very desirable Grade 299(quarter ... moresawn/tiger oak with the medium finish) Has the very desirable ogee(curved) top and bottom. All sections are size D-10 1/4. Bookcase is ALL ORIGINAL. Original finish. Original wavy glass, original knobs on the doors. Bookcase is ALL COMPLETE. All labels are present and intact. All glass is present(no cracks or breaks) All felt along the tops of the doors is complete and intact. All scissors mechanisms are present. All acid-etched side bands are correct and present. I rescued over 20 sections from a storage room of an old Chicago school library, and these 6 sections were in the best condition. Condition of the sections is way above average for their age. After 100 years the finish on these cases has usually"alligatored" Not here. Although there are the usual scratches and chips in the finish, which is to be expected(there is a rub of white paint on the right side of one section shown in the photos) the outside finish is overall extremely smooth with a nice gloss. The very top has the most wear and scratches as the librarians slid and stacked items on top of the cases. There is also the reside from 2 old pieces of cellophane tape on the front of the top. I can find no delamination of the back panels, nor any bubbling of the veneer on the very top. Being in a library for so many years has preserved them nicely. Overall size of the bookcase is 84" tall x 34" wide x 12" deep. If you need more photos. Or have additional questions, please email me. Globe Wernicke D 10.1/4 299 Barrister Bookcase 4 Sections w/Bottom Drawer
We are pleased to offer this beautiful antique barrister bookcase. This is made by the Globe Wernicke Company. There is a sticker on the back wall of two of the sections. that reads D10 1/4 299. The top section meausres 13" high to the glass door opening. The next two sections measure 10.5" to the top of the glass door opening and the bottom section measures 10.2" to the top with the glass door open. The assembled piece measures 61.25" high and has a width of 34" and an overall depth of 12" The depth of the main body is 11" This is the standard style with plain glass doors made from quarter sawn oak and oak veneers. This has the original brass hardware. There are some light age and use appropriate scratches and dings. There are paint specks on this. A gouge in the wood on one side and there is an area onthe ... moretop that the veneer is coming loose. There is a piece of sticky tape from a hook on the right side at the top of this. We will leave this fo rhte new owner to remove as we do not know if it will damage the finish or not. This can be seen slightly in the picture of the side view. Some have the 1905 patent date stamp and some do not. A couple have earlier square end. The other five have the ends with rounded edges. Price is for 1(one) scissor arm. Dimensions: 23" long. There is no tag on the underside of this unit to tell us but we know from the four small tacks, this is where the label was, it has been torn off, but it does reveal its made by Globe Wernicke and its obvious that the wood is mahogony. This auction is for the top only, the base is in one photo but its only there for display purposes, the base will be offered in another auction. This top an the base being offered in another auction is definately a leg up on putting together a 3/4 size mahogony stacking bookcase. RARE 3/4 width(25" Globe-Wernicke top in solid Maple(style 598 1/2) In great shape considering it is 100+ years old. Original finish w/original tag. This is a size"D" depth top. Little dusty and could benefit from some light cleaning. There are scratches consistent with age and there appears to be some uneven aging to the stain on the top(as if there were books placed on the top and not moved for years. Exposing some of the top to sun and other parts not so much) You should be able to see this in the pictures. No water, mold damage. I also have the corresponding base for auction as well. This is a barrister bookcase section made by the Globe Wernicke Co. It is missing the glass door. It is a model D-10 1/4 and grade 299. It measures aprox. 34" wide x 11" deep x 12 1/4" high. A true antique. Authentic and original condition Lawyer's“Elastic” Sectional/ Modular) Bookcase with the earliest company gold labels attached inside each section. And with door"equalizers" which later versions did not have. Made by Globe-Wernicke Co, Cincinnati, OH in extremely rare mahogany, which was the company's most expensive grade. Remarkable, beautiful condition for being over 100 years old. All glass is original too, except for the bottom door. Never refinished or in any other way modified. This has been in my family since it was purchased new by my great-grandparents. Specs: 1. Early gold label version. Dating it to 1899-1910. H as“equalizers” on each door. Which are folding metal spring rods to keep the doors from pulling off and to allow them to swing upward and slide into each section, getting the doors out ... moreof the way. The presence of the equalizers also shows that this is one of the first units made. 2. Four bookcase sections with doors: three are size D-8½. One is size D-10¼. The numbers are the interior height dimensions. Separate waterfall cap and base sections. 3. Marked Grade 598½. Which shows that it's mahogany in what the company called a“dead” finish(dull brush finish) medium dark stain. 4. Brass hardware. 5. Waterfall(rolltop) ogee cap section. Located in Nashville. TN. I will assist in getting it shipped to you in any way that I can, but you will need to arrange for that. Since it's modular, it can be taken apart, including the doors. And some staining/paint splatter on the inside that is not visible with the door mounted. The slide for the door on the left side is missing a small piece of wood used to stop the door, but since the other one is there the mechanism works fine as is. Rest of the unit is in fair to good condition. Couple nicks to the front, varnish is original, and has some stains ... moreand wear. This auction is for a beautiful set of 5 stack bookshelves made by the Globe-Wernicke Co in Cincinnati. Ohio. The set is in very good condition and each door opens and works very well. I bought the set about 20 years ago in an antique store so I don't know any actual history, but the hardware and small brass knobs on the doors seems to be original. Each door has beveled glass and the brass strappings on the ends are in good condition. There are labels from the manufacturer on the back wall of each shelf, some more faded than others due to age. The overall height, including the base, is 82 inches. Each case is 11 1/2 inches deep, 34 1/2 inches wide and is 13 1/2 inches high. The set is pictured in my home and as is evident in the photos. Here’s an outstanding pair of matched size Globe Wernicke lawyer bookcases in beautifully figured quarter sawn oak. These are from my mother's estate. She bought these at a sale at an attorney’s office here in Michigan in the mid 60’s(I loaded them in my truck and delivered them to her home) Each stack measures 57 ½’ high. 34” wide, and 11” front to back. The top piece is 12 1/8” front to back) Labels in the left stack read– top to bottom– 108-299 ½. 110-299, D10 ¼-299, D10 ¼-299. Right Stack reads– 108-299 ½, 110-299, D 10 ¼-299, 10 ¼-299. These great bookcases are in my opinion very good condition. They’re probably close to 100 years old. So obviously there may be a few nicks or scuffs to be expected. The interior has wear and scuffs as would be expected from taking heavy law books in and out. All ... morehave the original wavy glass and I have cleaned and polished all the original brass knobs. The metal side bands are discolored– not sure what original color was– looks like it could have been a brass color metallic paint. Here’s a 4 stack Globe Wernicke bookcase in beautifully figured quarter sawn oak. It’s complete with top and base. This unit measures 47 ½” high. 34” wide and 11” deep(The top is 12 1/8” deep) Labels in each section read, top to bottom, 108-299 ½, 110-299, D10 ¼-299, 10 ¼-299. These are from my mother’s estate and are in very good condition– probably close to 100 years old, obviously there may be a very minor scuff or nick– but not many. All have the original wavy glass and brass knobs. Metal sidebands are naturally worn, and have a nice uniform patina. The wood has a wonderful patina also. A good. What I believe is a GLOBE WERNICKE 4 sectional Oak stacking BARRISTER BOOKCASE. In fair CONDITION. I received this note from a viewer: This is an early stack of the Globe Wernicke Company as evidenced by the locking tab on the top.The style of side bands, the early non recessed sides on the top itself. And the closure mechanism. So it IS a GLOBE WERNICKE not a possible one. It is also in the D series line. Most likely a 198 series. I purchased it in 1995 and used it to safely house my rare book collection for almost 20 years. I believe it was refinished before I purchased it. Not the best job done… the refinisher got some glue on the glass of one of the 10” and the 14” unit. I believe it could be razor bladed off. but it never bothered me for what i was using it for. Ideal if you already have one of these bookcase. And want to add ... moremore units. I have seen individual units like these on eBay for $100-150. so, this is a bargin. I am moving and need to find it a good home. But I can always store it until I find the right price. Comes easily apart for a total of 5 pieces. Exterior. 34" wide. 11” deep. 50.75” tall Inside 32” wide. 9.5” depth 2 at 8.25" inside height units with working glass cover. One has glue on glass) 1 at 12" inside height with working glass cover. inexpertly glued corner of glass frame. Has some glue on glass. 1 at 10" inside height unit without a glass cover. Roll Top is in excellent condition. The doors slide nicely. Except the 12" unit sticks a little on the left corner. Would recommend getting this panel repaired. Metal side bands Brass door pulls. Sections stack together solidly and all the door opening mechanisms work great. The top has a few scratches(see photo 7) I believe this bookcase has the original finish and has not been restored at all. It really is gorgeous. Made from Quartersawn Oak- this cabinet exhibits some absolutely beautiful tiger-striping. 3) sections are D-8 1/2 and(1) section is D- 12 1/2. The top is a D-X section. One section has the really hard-to-find leaded glass diamond pattern. Glass has a nice subtle wavy effect. Overall measurements are 34" Wide x 12" Deep x 59 1/2" Tall. Local Pick Up. However.
