This lovely pair are the perfect mix of decorative beauty and practical functionality to make for a vintage design classic. They look great in any room and they are able to store lots of items. Ostensibly they are bookcases but of course you can use them to hold other items. They look particuarly good with decorative items- statues, vases etc- in them. However, for myself, being the bookish type I have a pair in my home with nothing but lovely, fading works of literature in them. The shelves are adjustable to suit meaty tomes or smaller paperbacks. The shelves work on a slat system so you can adjust them to whatever height you like for whatever you like. From\War and Peace\ to the\World\s Smallest Book of Poetry\ these bookcases are perfect. The open fronts are Sheraton style. Main body is walnut polished to a high sheen with solid shelves The inlay is made from various fruitwoods- satinwood. Rosewood, applewood- to create a beautiful affect. The fruitwoods are softer hence there use as inlay within the harder mahogany. The level of the craftmanship on these is absolutely superb, both strucurally in that they are very solid, and also with the intricacy of the inlay. The close up pictures of the inlay work hopefully illustrates the level of craftmanship with patterns of scrolling branches. Urns and flower motifs. They would be the highlight of any room and due to their solid construction will last for many generations more. They are in perfect conditon structurally and they have just come back from the restorers where they were repolished so they are ready for home use straight away. I purchased this bookcase in July of 1992 from the SCIOTO RIVER ANTIQUES store in Mt. Victory. Ohio for $525, and I have the original sales slip and the receipt from my credit card as provenance. I am selling it because I am now retiring to the Philippines, and it is too expensive to ship it. The bookcase is circa 1920's.

Rare, Antique Shaw Walker Barrister Bookcase, glass front, 3 piece Pick up NJ
Rare. Highly collectible Antique Barrister bookcase from the reputable Shaw Walker company. Stackable 3 piece, glass fronts. I am not sure of the type of wood, either cherry or mahogany- this piece is from the early 1900's- it has been well preserved and taken care of. The front and sides have been painted with a black Ethan Allen paint to match the other furniture we have- the inside of each unit and the back has not been painted. The measurements are about 49 1/2 inches tall(stacked with the 3 pieces) 34 inches width, and the depth is 11 1/2 inches. The top has a small scratch in the paint that measures a few inches, but the wood is not scratched as far as I can see. This is a barrister bookcase base that is being sold as is or for parts. It measures aprox. 34" wide x 12 1/2" deep x 7" high. The bottom trim piece is missing. The drawer is incomplete. Missing one side, the back and bottom, one of the drawer pulls is bent. The two side pieces have some rot on the bottom which could be trimmed down. Circa 1900 Walnut Converted to bookcase 4 adjustable shelves Wear noted in description Locks with key, This unusual bookcase started off its life as a French armoire that was made around the year 1900. Someone as since added and adjustable shelved interior. Two interior drawers, and removed the wooden panels on the doors and replaced them with chicken wire. The result is a very nice, French country bookcase that would look great in any room! The four adjustable shelves inside this antique bookcase have a 14.25″ depth. They adjust ... morevia an alligator bracket system giving you plenty of options for space between each shelf. At the bottom of the interior are two drawers for added storage. These drawers are made with hand cut dovetails and work very well. The front doors lock with an included key. The lock is what is called a“double throw” lock. That means you must turn the key twice in order to lock/unlock the doors. We have also found that the door locks best if you gently push the bottom of the door in while turning the key. There are a few very nice carvings to be found on this bookcase. First. The front legs have a floral carving to them which is quite attractive, but simple. The cornice is also adorned with carvings of flora that form almost a crest or medallion at the top. Walnut is the wood used to create this French bookcase. It is a wonderful. Light color that will compliment any surrounding. This bookcase has worn well over the years and today remains in good condition. The bottom of the doors have a few minor chips to them. This auction is for a neat petite size Dark Honey Oak Drop Front Desk with Bookshelves for added storage or display space. These drop front desk have many names. Larkin Style Desk, Students Desk, Ladies Writing Desk and others. Under any name, they are a very nice and unique item that can go in just about any room of your home. The wonderful thing is thay do not take up very much floor space. They fit nicely up against any wall and you get the benefits of a desk and bookshelves for display. We have had one in our master bedroom for years. This one has a working lock and a key that comes with it. ANTIQUE OAK 4 SECTION GLASS BARRISTER BOOKCASE GLOBE-WERNICKE STYLE WITH DROP FRONT SECRETARY This auction is for a gorgeous oak 4-section glass barrister bookcase with drop front secretary. We date this bookcase to the early 1900’s as the barrister door mechanism is marked 1908(see photo) This bookcase is very similar to Globe-Wernicke style bookcases. But cannot find any label identifying the manufacturer. This bookcase is constructed entirely of smooth. Beautiful oak. It features 3 glass doors on the front of each section; the glass is intact with no cracks or problems to mar their beauty. The glass doors flip up and open/close smoothly. The finish is smooth and is not scratched. In fact. There are no surface blemishes, nicks, or scratches of any sort on the surfaces. The secretary front has incredible quarter-sawn beauty in its sweeping ... morecurve. This bookcase comes apart into 6 components: a decorative top. 3 separate glass bookcase sections, folding secretary section with cubby’s for storage and pedestal bottom, making it easy to move and transport. See photo of unit disassembled) The bookcase’s overall measurements are 57 inches tall x 34 inches wide by 11 inches deep(except the depth of the secretary is 14 inches at the widest point on the curve) The base is 5¼” tall x 34” wide x 11” deep. The bottom 2 bookcase units measure 11¼” tall x 34” wide x 11” deep. The secretary is 13¼” tall x 34” wide x 14” deep at the widest point of the curve.
