This is a beautiful wooden slate trunk. It was made with wood. Leather, and metal trunk. Someone tried to paint the inside of the trunk over the years but the outside was left untouched. When I took this out of the attic one of the leather handles broke. I will send it to the lucky buyer. Other than that, this is a wonderful piece of history. Thanks happy bidding!

Up for sale is this beautiful antique dome top steamer trunk with ornate embossed metal and a working key. It measures 32" long by 18" wide and 21" tall. The exterior of this trunk was cleaned. The wood slats sanded, stained with minwax"golden oak" then the entire trunk was sealed with spar urethane. The interior lining was removed then the wood was sanded and stained with minwax"golden oak" as well. This trunk shows some wear from age and has some minor flaws i.e. one of the hinges is broke(does not effect the stability, very functional) overall the trunk is in very good condition. ~Nice Antique Barrel Stave(Camel Back) Travel Trunk Up for your consideration is the following. They have been called Camel Backs. Round Tops, Barrel Stave, and Dome Topped. I don't know for sure what this one was called for certainty I just know that it more closely relates to the old"Barrel Stave" luggage trunks. Although this piece is quite old and Non-Restored it is still quite charming to behold. The inside is quite lovely. The trunk could be easily restored to it's former glory. It features beautiful artwork by"Kaufmann& Co. That is numbered. The Outside Of The Trunk Show its age a lot! There is evidence of Surface Rust. Marks, Scratches As the handles on the ends are missing and part of a latch and there is NO key. You Can Better See In The Pics I Have Put On. Refinished Dome Top Victorian Steamer Trunk Antique Chest With Straps & Buckles
Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles Here is a nice refinished arch top or dome top steamer trunk from around the late 1800's to 1900 or so. We purchased this one already finished by someone else. We didn't really like the way it was when we received it. So we went ahead and finished it out a little bit better. This one has a combination of fancy embossed metal which is in a leaf and flower pattern on the top and front. The rest of the trunk must have been paper which they removed to expose the wood on the sides and the back. The wood appears to be pine and the outer slat boards look like poplar. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 20 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 17 inches. The front latches were ... moremissing on this trunk, so we put a pair of Amish made leather straps with roller buckles up the front and across the top where the latches should have been. These straps with buckles hold the top secure to it's base when buckled as would the latches if they were there. The wood appears to be finished with a couple of coats of clearcoat. The metal has been painted in a couple of different colors. The fancy metal looks like a silverish color while the cap metal on the slat boards have been done up in gold leaf, and the flat metal is in black. The lock looks to be original. It is not in working condition because the top part that goes into the lock mechanism is missing the engagement part. The lock probably works, but it will not fasten to anything since the top part is missing that engagement part. We did receive this trunk pretty much the way it is and simply gave it some improvement. The side handles were not on it, so we have put on a pair of Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, the paper lining has been removed and the wood has been finished with two coats of polyurethane. The bottom has been covered over with a new bottom which has been fastened

MINIATURE OR DOLL ANTIQUE DOME TOP WOOD TRUNK
Up for bid is a very nice antique miniature or doll size wood dome top trunk. Believed to be from the last turn of the century. This small wood trunk, is covered with a brown and black paper, wood slats, tin corners, tin hardware, cardboard trim and once upon a time, leather handles. The paper is missing or torn in some spots, as is some of the original cardboard trim, and the handles are missing. The inside is a whole different story, fashioned with wall to wall wallpaper, and a tray to boot. There is a cloth strap inside which once held the trunk top open, so that the top did not break the hinges, when let go of. The strap can easily be re-fastened to the inside lid. The inside contents as found appear to be doll clothes and blankets or quilted items, and your getting those as well. Priced high over the years, I probably only ever owned ... moremaybe a small handful of these in the last 40+ years of being in business of buying antiques. They are rare to find, especially in such nice condition as this. A great project piece, just waiting to be refinished and used to keep jewelry, make it into a humidor for your cigars, or give it to a small child who might want to use it for dolls or small collectibles. The trunk measures 16" in length x 10-1/2" high x 9-3/4" wide. The interior was covered in contact paper. I pulled it off exposing the original paper or what's left of it. The inside of the dome has reside from the contact paper. The leather straps are broken. There isn't a key. Trunk has a wonderful patina showcasing its age. ANTIQUE METAL BARREL STAVE DOME TOP TRUNK WITH WOOD SLATS(591.100) With Measurements: 30.5"w x 17 3/4"d x 23"h Dome Top Trunks 1870-1920 Built in many sizes and styles. They generally have a curved top that slopes in both directions and built using a variety of construction methods including molded ply and barrel construction among others. Within this style of trunks are a few other names that have come about based on the positioning of the wood slates that cover the dome construction. The exact origin of these names is unknown but seem reasonable and listed below as I understand them. Barrel Stave Trunks(1860-1885) they generally date a bit earlier than most of the dome tops made and have horizontal running slats instead of vertical(end to end vs. over ... morethe top) Giving it a slightly different look. The word"stave" in this case refers to the wood slats. These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880s when the other dome construction methods listed below became more widely used. Often early examples of this style have a graceful. Well proportioned look and the later examples into the 1870's are quite simply well made. This trunk is in good condition. Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk Embossed Metal Oak Slatted c. 1900
Gorgeous Victorian era antique dome-top steamer trunk. The metal sides and top of this chest are embossed with an intricate floral design that has been painted a wonderful gold color. Contrasting black metal covers the corners and edges and is decorated with braces at the corners and where it meets the oak braces. Two heavy leather handles on either side are worn and broken. Giving the piece an authentic aged fee. The metal lock and fasteners are impressed with decorative designs with an arts& crafts flair. Two of the oak slats have writing on them, which is difficult to make out. This piece is both decorative and practical for storage. It most likely dates from the late 1800's or early 1900's. Overall. Antique John T. Barnum Dome Top Wardrobe Trunk Vintage Rare 1906
We have here a nice and rare antique wardrobe trunk. This trunk was manufactured by the Barnum Trunk Company in 1906(no affiliation to P.T. Barnum) The trunk is what you would have seen your typical wealthy traveler use at the turn of the twentieth century. A little research on the internet yielded the following information: John T. Barnum was born in Rochester. NY on March 5, 1857. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic in Troy. NY in 1879 He moved to Minneapolis. MN in 1880 and began working for D.D. Whitney, founder of the original trunk factory in 1872 In September 1880. Barnum and a colleague, Mr. Goodrich, took possession of the company from the ailing Mr. Whitney The Barnum Trunk Company was incorporated in 1905 This trunk is a dome top trunk measuring 53" high. 22" wide and 21" deep. It has a swing out drawer section ... moreand a roll out clothes rack. Both the trunk and the rack have the Barnum plaques on them from Minneapolis, MN. On the bottom of the rack the stamp reads Pat. Feb. 20, 1906. I have 33 photos of the trunk, if you are interested in seeing them send me a message with your email and I can send the rest of them. The photos show the condition of the trunk. At some point, the trunk was painted the oil-based blue shown in the photos. There are some original hangers and straps on in the trunk also. The only major problems I see are the missing leather handles, one wooded wheel is missing from the roll out rack and the key is missing. Keep in mind this item is over 100 years old, and it likely did a lot of travelling, so it's not perfect. I'm basing my price on a couple different Barnum trunks I've seen sell on the internet. Rare Vintage Antique Humpback Steamer Dome Top Trunk lined with Copper
I have up for sale a unique and wonderful vintage Copper Covered Humpback Steamer Trunk- yes you are reading this right- copper covered. First time in nearly 30 years of dealing that I have seen a humpback made with copper. It comes from the estate of an elder pair of local collector's. They had a small private museum and this was one of the items in the museum. The trunk weighs approx 33 lbs as you see it. Measures approx 26" long x 19" tall, and 15" deep. It has wood slates, a copper covered body, and brass plated latches and brass plated handles on the sides. I estimate the age to be from the early 1900s to 1940s. The trunk is in very good overall condition! The copper has some age and use wear. Looks as though it was polished way back when and has now darkened and tarnished over. The interior looks as though it was ... moreredone somewhere down the line. This is a good solid piece, not too big not too small, nice and sturdy, very unusual with the copper covering. What an amazing estate find! Atkinson& Long mfg co. from Petersburg Va made this trunk. Overall trunk is in amazing condition for it's age. Comes with original hangers and material. it doesnt look like anything has been changed out. Trunk lock is bent so it would have to be fixed to close it fully. If you have any questions let me know. This is local pick up only unless you want it freighted to you. We would have to figure out how much that would cost, since i have never used that service before. The lock is no longer there, and one rivet is missing from one of the brass clasps next to the lock, but otherwise it's in great shape and fully functional. The trunk measures approximately 42 x 23 x 22 inches on the outside. And weights about 95 pounds. Opens standing up and has one side with a hanging wardrobe. A old Victorian Blanket box Circa 1870. Its very old made of pine. Comes with its original inner tray Nice original brass lock with a key to lock it. Its been around for over a hundred years and picked up lots of character marks. Impressions, splits, holes etc from the many many years of use. All these have left great looking chest.
