Beautiful Rare 1927 Antique Lane Cedar Hope Blanket Chest Style# 48910 This Lane Hope Chest was made on May. 9th 1927 In 1912 John Edward Lane bought a small packing-box plant in Altavista. Virginia at a bankruptcy auction for $500. Placed in charge of the small, corrugated iron building, his son Edward Hudson Lane decided to convert the facility in order to make cedar chests. The Lane family was unsure of what success they would have selling chests, so they originally named the company The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. The firm manufactured and sold chests used to store linens and other items for setting up housekeeping, as well as keepsakes. Early production of about ten chests a day was sold through independent salesmen working on commission. In its early days. The business was run on a shoestring budget. Nearby buildings were rented as ... moredemand grew, with finished parts transferred from one building to another by means of a mule-drawn carriage. STUNNING ANTIQUE 1926 ROOS CEDAR HOPE CHEST! The Ed Roos Company. Based in Forest Park, IL, was in business from 1916-1951 and made chests in popular styles from Edwardian to Art Deco. Featuring double locks and two levels. This beautiful Hope Chest is multi-functional and a great collectors piece! The first shelf has four felt compartments including one large area that you can strap down a blanket or anything really! The largest compartment under the first shelf is lined with thick paper with holes. This method is used to protect both the cedar and any items stored. Articles and cloths along with other items can stick to the cedar and possibly ruin both. The lining helps the cedar breath. And keeps items from attaching to the wood. The entire Chest has wood inlay around the body. And lovely carved embellishment around the edges. I have up for sale a very nice vintage original circa 1920s- 40s Cedar Chest. The chest is in very clean original condition! It measures approx 45-1/4" long. 20" deep, approx 19-1/2" tall which includes the 1" castor height. The chest is in Excellent Condition- nice clean original finish- strong& sturdy- has a flat top which would be strong enough to sit on- that is unless you are over 300 lbs then I would not advise it. Some normal light age wear as one would expect. The only damage to note is a fairly inconspicuous chip/ slivered off piece- located on the front lower right. Shown up close in pics 10& 12. This is not something that is very noticeable at all, the sliver was done many years back and it has been stained over and the only way you will notice it, is if you look upclose with scrutiny. There is some ... moreslight wear to the metal bands, but its very light- nothing serious. The hinge works perfectly and the little metal elbow for holding the top up, when opened,works just fine. I do not have the key for the lock and not sure if the lock works. This gorgeous chest weighs about 60 pounds with the internal shelf and is approximately 19.5" front to back. Approximately 48" wide/left to right and approximately 19" high/tall. This chest has the original finish. The detail that went into crafting this chest is astonishing. This chest is in pristine antique condition with very few natural character marks normally expected with antique wood. I particularly like the decorative carving in the center of the front and the beautiful grain on the top which is fairly uniform and straight for a natural walnut. Lane Antique Vintage Art Deco Cedar Hope Blanket Chest
Original antique/vintage art deco Lane Cedar Chest. This has been in our family since 1947. It is Style# 2120. Serial# 641260. According to the Lane website, date of manufacture is coded in the serial# just reverse the numbers. So this chest was manufactured on 06/21/46. It measures approximately 48" long x 18" wide x 18" high. I have included several pictures so you can see the overall condition. There are a lot of light scratches on the lid(nothing deep) and a few more on the front and sides. There are also several small patches where the veneer has come off on the edges and one section where one of my children drew a couple of small pictures. I am not an expert on restoration. But I would think that these veneer sections could be repaired. The interior is in very good condition- no chips or scratches anywhere on the cedar ... moreplanks and the felt is intact and complete. The lid opens smoothly and closes completely. The legs are solid and are also intact. At one point. The Lane Company did issue a recall on the locks/latches of these chests so the lock will be removed. They are offering free lock replacement kits that can be acquired by calling their toll-free number. Considering this chest is close to 70 years old. And all of the moves it has gone through, it is in overall solid, good condition with a lot of use left in it. All sales are final. So please ask any questions before bidding. Broken corners, chunks of wood missing, pieces glued, painted over finish"fixes" or anything that would detract from its look or value. However, since it is a vintage piece of furniture. If you look really hard and are overly discriminating, you probably can find a flaw or two. So I say that it is"near" perfect, not"absolutely" perfect. There is nothing that would make you say"Oh poop! after you purchase it. The only thing that I note is that two of the wood risers on the bottom side have been removed so the chest can roll up flush to rises in a floor. Yes it has wheels. If somebody wanted to put these back on. Why I do not know, it could easily be done by even the least crafty ... morecraftsman and be completely undetectable as they are on the bottom of the chest facing the floor and the wood is unfinished. Lane Antique Vintage Collectible Cedar Hope Blanket Chest
Original antique/vintage Lane Cedar Chest. This has been in our family since 1947. It is Style# 2120. Serial# 641260. Date of manufacture is Serial# in reverse: 06/21/46. It measures approximately 48" long x 18" wide x 18" high. I have included several pictures so you can see the overall condition. There are a lot of light scratches on the lid(nothing deep) and a few more on the front and sides. There are also some small patches where the veneer has come off on the edges and one section(see 8th picture) where one of my children drew a couple of small pictures. I'm not an expert on restoration. But it might be possible to repair these few patches. The interior is in very good condition. The lid opens smoothly and closes completely. Legs are solid and intact. At one point. The Lane Company issued a recall on the locks/latches ... moreof these chests so the lock has been removed. They are offering free lock replacement kits that can be acquired by calling their toll-free number. Considering this chest is close to 70 years old. It is still in good, solid condition. All sales are final. So please ask any questions before bidding. Due to the size and weight. vintage cedar lined hope chest/blanket box - 1900-1950, American, dark wood
This vintage hope chest/blanket box has been in my family for over fifty years. It was given to my mother by an elderly friend in 1963. The exterior is a dark wood matte finish(it needs serious polishing to bring it back) Perhaps cherry, with a cedar interior. It has club feet and is meant to be set against a wall or at the foot of a bed. There are normal signs of wear and tear, which is normal for a piece of furniture in use for over half a century. I have sold my house- so this piece is now in a temperature controlled storage unit. Item has damaged veneer across the front. Vintage Rare Blonde 1962 LANE CEDAR HOPE/Blanket CHEST
This is a Mid Century Modern style hope/blanket chest- mfg. date june 14 1962. this chest is in very good condition considering its age. Has a few minor spots on the outside but the inside is near mint condition. There is definitely nothing wrong with it, nothing that would make you say damn after you bought it. Due to safety regulations the lock or latch mechanism has been removed. It measures 43 1/4" long 16 3/4" wide and 19" in height. If pickup is possible it would be great, if not we will work out the details and how you would prefer to have it shipped. Even though I have a shipping option shows for this auction we will have to work out how you will want to have it shipped.
