Stamped"CW 60" Item# 120011TRP10 This is a fine antique Edwardian revolving bookcase. Crafted of solid golden mahogany, the top a single thick plank edged by carved molding over two levels of bookshelves. These are set at two distinct heights(10" top, 12" bottom) that allow it to comfortably hold most average size books. The sides are crafted of four shaped mahogany slats, each secured to the case with rounded screws, achieving the breezy and transparent overall aura associated with most fine pieces of the Edwardian period. The entire case spins with remarkable ease on thick dowel system inside of the case, presumably utilizing some kind of bearing inside for to account for the smoothness ... moreof the rotation(we have not taken it apart to see exactly what the mechanism is inside, but it is very strong and very smooth) This rests over four splayed feet locked together with a forged iron cross, resting over original caster wheels. The left side keyhole trim is missing. No cracks on the leaded glass doors. But they do have some warp in them. The stand is separate from the bookcase and probably needs a couple more little wood blocks added to support the bookcase like it should…the bookcase wobbles on the stand and worries me it might fall over…another possibility would be to just use the bookcase without the lower stand! Older Super Cute Petite Size Oak Bookcase Bookshelf Magazine Rack From England
This auction is for a neat& smaller size Oak Bookcase& Magazine Rack combo unit from England. The slim little doll will go into any room of your home. It's made out of Solid Oak with solid oak planks on the back. The sides. Top, shelves and magazine dividers are all solid oak. The shelves are fixed in place and do not adjust. With it's small size, this unit can go in your kitchen, den, bedroom and even your bathroom. It has ample storage for books plus the bottom can hold magazines& newspapers. This one is in overall good condition without any rot or worm damage. This bookcase is not new or a reproductions, it been around quite a while and have just got"off the boat" from England less than 4 weeks ago. The bookcase is 15 1/8" wide X 8 1/2" deep and is 38 3/4" tall overall. Each shelf is 13 3/4" ... morewide with the top shelf being 5 3/8" deep. The second shelf is 6 5/8" deep and the bottom shelf is 6 3/4" deep. a prvious owner modified the bottom of this unit. It came with two dividers on the bottom for magazines& newspapers. They removed the dividers and added the bottom shelf. By doing this. You can see where the dividers used to be on the inside walls at the bottom shelf. Be sure and LOOK at the pictures so you can see this modification. It will have some blemishes to the finish(light or dark spots or marks) nicks. Dings& scratches from normal use over the years, but for it's age and travels it's in overall good condition and ready to set out and use and enjoy. This auction is for an Antique Mission Oak Bookcase. It is very similar in design. Size, and construction to soem Stickley Brothers bookcases I have seen. It is not marked. It has 3 shelves with 3 vertical spindles on each side. It has an old refinish. Some light wear to finish on top shelf and a few nicks here and there. It measures 32" high by 19" wide by 12" deep. There is a small hairline crack in top shelf on right side. Bookcase is solid as a rock. Joints are tight and strong with no movement. Buyer pays $125.00 for postage, supplies, and insuran. It is very old but in great shape with a lovely, consistent semi-gloss finish on bright, heavily figured, solid-wood English oak cabinetry. The workmanship is excellent. This is the piece you want. It's functional, warm, and makes a tall, distinguished statement wherever it is situated. I don't know the exact vintage but am thinking early 20th century. Glass all intact. Hinge-work, articulated armatures for lifting and stowing panel windows is all functional. Even the tiny pulls are figured oak. Fortunately, this antique is completely modular/ stacking(with small dowels for registration at each tier) and can be shipped anywhere in lower 48 safely in six or seven pieces. It has a traditional beveled cornice and it features a spacious bookshelf with three shelves. Two that are removable and adjustable, and they have beautiful lead glazed glass arched doors. The top surface has a very nice finish and it is in very good condition. There are two smooth operating drawers that are well constructed with dovetail joinery and they have lovely pulls with decorative hardware. Below them are two cabinets that have four shelves and though the bottom ones are slightly warped they function well as they are. They have beautiful paneled doors with an attractive arched wooden design. The cabinet doors have lock mechanisms with one key present. This piece has some minor age appropriate wear and wood imperfections but overall it is in very good cosmetic and structural condition and it is strong and sturdy. Both of these sets of doors lock and one key is included. Behind the wavy glass antique doors are three shelves. The bottom two are stationary but the top shelf adjusts via a brass pin and hole system. The shelf depth inside the upper cabinet is 10.75″ As mentioned this piece was made by the company Waring& Gillows. A company known throughout England for creating quality, luxury furniture pieces. Being made around 1900 would have been just after the time that the two original companies(Gillows of Lancaster and Waring of Liverpool) joined. Wonderful set of 4 bankers bookcases measuring 5' 7" tall when stacked. This set included everything depicted. The top cap, 2 small, 1 medium and 1 large cab and the bottom stand(All depicted) The shelves are 34" wide and all 11.5" deep. The glass doors fold into the tops of each shelf and all work as intended. There are some minor blemishes here and there, almost un noticed with the exception of the nicks and scrapes on the front right corner.
