IL- ... moreFar west Chicago suburbs) UP FOR AUCTION: A gorgeous. Vintage, Art Deco, walnut waterfall-style cedar-lined blanket or hope chest. Elegant contrasting veneer inlay work on front center. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit of veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. The buyer, if he/she desires a working lock, can probably purchase one through ebay or vi

Awesome primitive folk art miniature wooden blanket chest. Made from an old fruit crate. All components of box show traces of having been gleaned from a fruit crate the box is in excellent shape, and measures 8" long by 3 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. There are three tiny nail holes visible on top of box lid one in front center, and two on right side edge, which are remnants of when piece was a packing crate please see last photo. The front of box has a beautiful scallop design and still retains faint pencil layout lines. Original to the creation of the piece. Both sides of the mini blanket chest have footed arched features which join and compliment the scalloped arched front. For your consideration is this wonderful vintage cargo trunk in excellent condition. This chest appears to have been hardly used. As it is clean. With only a few scrapes to the hardware on the outside. There is a four inch deep, lift out tray inside with two cutout handles on the end, and two tie down straps to keep your garments or cargo in place during transit. As you can see in the pictures. The inside is a green color, and also notice the clean condition with no spots, stains, holes, or dis-coloration. The outside is ruggedly built with quality hardware, oak runners top and bottom, a metal band around the outside, corner protection, and on each end is a square holder for perhaps a label, or owners information, On the front is a lock, with no key, and a sturdy, thick, brown leather handle strap. He said it was from WW1 era, I can not confirm. It is painted with a wood effect and is beautifully aged in a Shabby chic way. The inside is blue. Steamer trunk This is a great looking trunk that would make an ideal coffee table. Internally it is very clean and doesn't have the slightest smell of must. Externally It is in great condition except for a paint run to the front, you can see it in most of the pictures. I think it could be removed with thinners or similar as the finish on the trunk is like a sort of vinyl or similar material but I thought I'd leave that to the buyer. An old original fab steamer chest with lots of metal banding and end cap brackets. It is a original steamer chest from circa 1900's and would have been used on the ships of old Metal handles at each side. Front locks and clasps there is no longer any key for the middle lock long gone. Four hardwood slats on top with one at the front and back also. It is approx. half the height of the standard ones. So would be great for any room in the house to make a great look and not take up to much space. The chest has a nice shiny bri wax finish. It has been around for a hundred years and will come with wear and tear as you would expect which all adds character to these items, But is still a strong fab little chest. An old original Victorian blanket box. As its well over a hundred years old. It will have marks, old wood worm holes, small bows and splits but I think it all adds charm. The box was fully treated for woodworm to be safe and secure from any little beasties several weeks ago Inside has the original fish tail hinges and it still has its lock and upper keep in the lid but the key is long gone lost over time The chest has a nice shiny bri wax finish. Its a early example made from pine not heavy very light to lift. Unlike later examples. One side has trim on the edge the other does not see pictures. 1950's LANE CEDAR CHEST Mid Century Modern style hope/blanket chest- Mfg date 11/30/1956 Near perfect condition. No scratches. Broken corners, chunks of wood missing, pieces glued, painted over finish"fixes" or anything that would detract from its look or value. However, since it is a vintage piece of furniture. If you look really hard and are overly discriminating, you probably can find a flaw or two. So I say that it is"near" perfect, not"absolutely" perfect. There is nothing that would make you say"Oh poop! after you purchase it. The only thing that I note is that two of the wood risers on the bottom side have been removed so the chest can roll up flush to rises in a floor. Yes it has wheels. If somebody wanted to put these back on. Why I do not know, it could easily be done by even the least crafty ... morecraftsman and be completely undetectable as they are on the bottom of the chest facing the floor and the wood is unfinished.
