It does have an original shipping label from the mid 1950’s. It is in great condition overall. Antique Black Steamer Travel Trunk Leather Handles on Each End Front Latch NEAT!
This auction is for a vintage steamer trunk. I think this is the right wording for them. This is black, hinged lid, leather strap handles on each end. Two clasp closures on the front, the main lock is missing the bottom as you can see in the photos. The inside is papered. This is worn and discolored, it is the original. There is a wooden bar on each side where the shelf would sit, but is no longer with the trunk. Measures right at 36" wide, 21.5" deep and 24" tall. It has weight to it! This trunk is spectacular. It is a high quality Hartmann trunk. I am uncertain of the exact age. But I am confident that it dates to the earlier part of the 1900s. The exterior is hardshell and the finish has great patina. The interior is rather interesting. It has a galvanized metal insert. I am not certain the purpose of this, but it possibly speaks to anticipated rough handling of the case. Maybe this was designed for airline or train travel. I thought about an ice box however, there is no insulation in the galvanized insert. The overall exterior measurements of the case are 28" x 9 1/2" x 18" The logo is mostly intact and indicates a Racine, Wisconsin address. There is only one handle on the case and it is in good shape. 1920's Antique Black Auto Trunk by Eder Mfg.
This is an auto trunk from the 20's or early 30's in excellent condition. It has well-maintained a classy look. The trunk is covered in a bonded leather type material. It is textured like leather but a small tear in the front reveals a fabric backing. It may haven been painted at one time. Though I can't tell for sure. Dimensions are 32"x15"x15" Handle on right side has ripped, though both pieces are still present, and there is a small tear in the material on the front. The corners are all reinforced by leather pieces. Each strap and corner piece is secured by gorgeous rivets. The interior material is in pretty decent shape. The fabric along the sides and on top is original, while the bottom has maintained most of the original paper. There is a small crack on the interior of the front board. It appears this trauma ... moreoccurred at the same time as the tear in the material on the exterior. I suppose it likely collided with the corner of something rather dense at some point. The company's emblem is placed a the bottom right corner of the trunk's front. The locks are completely intact and look fantastic. Sorry, don't have the keys. You are bidding on/ buying an ANTIQUE 1920s GENUINE COWHIDE LEATHER STEAMER TRUNK. I come across quite a few suitcases. I have yet to see one in as good a shape. And as unique a design as this one. It is the size of a small suitcase. But shaped like a trunk. It measures 24 inches across the front 13 1/2 inches deep, and 10 inches tall. It has steamer style straps. Silver accent hardware, all original. It almost has a walrus or elephant texture to the hide of the material. You can see the patterning up close in photo 12. The top part of this piece expands up about 3 inches if you fill it to do so. If not it sits flat. Photos 8& 11. There are 2 straps around the case. In great condition. On the front of the case there is a lock latch, and 2 securing latches. All 3 in good order. Inside looks good. All the straps there are in great shape ... moretoo. ANTIQUE BLACK TRAVELING TRUNK BRASS HANDLES ON THE SIDE FROM AN UPSTATE NEW YORK ESTATE WE HAVE A VINTAGE BLACK TRAVELING TRUNK WITH BRASS HANDLES Really unique piece. It is 17" long by 13 1/2" tall and 14 1/4" wide. When you open it up the top has criss cross strings for light stuff. Then you open the lid there is a pull out compartment insert ~ box that is 16" long by 13" wide and 4" tall. All made out of wood with a leather cover around all of it. Two Large brass handles on each side that are 6 1/2" long. The brass lock has Davis's Pat. GR incribed on it. There is no key and the bottom does show wear you can see it in the photo's but nothing that takes away from the piece. Would make a great addition to any vintage trunk collection. Black Antique Trunk - Selma AL stamped on side
This is a very old trunk that I need to sell to make room around my house. It is very worn as shown in the pictures. But that just adds character to the distressed look. You can make out the words Selma, AL on the side of the trunk as shown in the pictures. The lock is broken and the leather handles are no longer present. This antique black camping trunk has seen a lot in its day. Despite its great condition! We estimate that it dates to around 1940. Its exterior is solidly constructed with a lightweight design for ease of transport when travelling or camping. All clasps are fully functional and open and close easily. The exterior is in very good vintage condition with the expected signs of wear for an item of its age. The interior of the trunk has been lined with vintage advertisements at some point. We’re not sure if this is original to the trunk but it sure does look neat. It has some staining which adds a lot of interest to the trunk. Trunks such as this were the equivalent of today’s carry-on luggage. They were low-profiled and small enough to fit under the berths of trains or in the cabin of a steamer. Hence their name. Most were built with flat-tops ... moreand had inner tray compartments to store the owner's valuables deemed too precious to keep stowed away in the main luggage train or berth. There were hundreds of trunk manufacturers in the United States and a few of the larger and well-known companies were Rhino Trunk& Case. C.A.Taylor, Haskell Brothers, Martin Maier, Romadka Bros. This is a beautiful wood steamer trunk from the early 1900s. It measures 21" tall. It is 32 l ing and 19" wide. The trunk has an insert and the hinges are replacements. It is in excellent condition, on inspection it does show vintage wear. The side handles are broken and one of the bottom boards is split and the 2 front casters missing. It shows normal scuffing and bumps as you would expect but no abuse. The trunk is solid and sturdy. It comes from a non smoking and pet free home. It is clean and ready to use.
