Polyeurethane or paint etc. Nicely painted red with eagle decal. Seat is wood and metal steel and marked Pat'd July 28. 1925 or 26. T he desk top is wood and lifts open to store paper and supplies perfectly. Cle an inside- compartment measures 3" deep. Both the seat and the desktop operate as they should. Desktop measures 20 1/4" x 14" This desk measures 25 1/2" tall from back of chair to floor. I think the height on the seat and desk can be adjusted. From back to front this desk measures 26" long. This is a great piece for display. For a play desk for your little ones, or to home-school and keep everything organized and everyone on-task in an educational ... moretype setting! Condition: This piece is vintage and in used condition. This preowned school desk may have some very minor stray marks of marker/crayon/glue/glitter marks on this piece. These great vintage bookends by Enesco are in the style of antique school desks and are made of wood and cast iron. Little red& green painted wooden books titled. Writing, Reading, Arithmetic& History" are attached to the desk backs. The books. Base and desk tops are made of wood and the desk legs are made of ornamental cast iron. This is a sweet antique school desk is in good condition. I bought it about 30 years ago at an antique store in Ft. Worth. Tx. and refinished it. The wood is probably pine. The desk has been kept on display indoors since its purchase. If you are familiar with these desks. The kid in the seat behind actually uses this desk. These were a little before my time, but that appears to be how they worked. When the seat is down. The desk is about 30 inches in depth, 21 inches wide, and 25 inches tall. The dimensions of the top of the desk are about 20 ½ wide by 13 ½ deep. There is an indention for a pencil and a wooden‘cubby’ for papers and books. The seat in the front and flips down for seating and up if not needed. It also has a clear glass inkwell for‘real’ ink– no ball points yet. Hello. This is a beautiful set of antique cast iron school desk legs from Grand Rapids Furniture Co. out of Michigan. They have really nice ornate patterns and awesome embossment proudly displaying their origin. These come from a time when quality mattered and things lasted for more than a few months of use. They are commonly being used for tables, and various forms of stands. The bottom shelf(as seen in the pics) folds up. My wife loves them as plant stands, a great time to pull out those special pieces of board you have been saving. I have 5 sets of these, all exactly the same, but would prefer not to combine shipping for fear that they will get damaged, it's just too much weight and too many pieces in one box. I found this miniature child's school desk while cleaning out an old farm homestead. This desk is very small 20" tall. 17.5" long and 12.5" wide. There is a pencil groove in the top. It is wood and cast iron construction. Definitely an old one and its condition is commensurate with the age. Just as I found it, the paint is worn and missing, the metal is rusty and pitted. The bottom of the legs appear to be missing some type of foot perhaps and one leg is slightly shorter. The wood has NO rot issues. The desk is used and is around 100 years old. The desk is in good condition for its age. It has never been refinished(beyond whatever may have been done while as an active school desk) and it shows evidence of student usage in the form of paint rings and some splatters on the desk top surface. There is a wood gouge inside on the book shelf below the desk top(possibly from a bored young mind? The desk has the hole designed to hold an ink well and a pencil tray stop. An unusual addition is the Boston Bulldog pencil sharpener mounted on the right side of the desk possibly toward the end of it's life in some school. One of the blades was broken ... moreoff the sharpening mechanism and a pink crayon is firmly stuck in the hole. Adding a“splash of color” The cast iron legs show signs of surface rust or patina. The desk is very sturdy and solid, and is screwed to its original runners. Embossed on both side of the cast iron legs state“Eclipse#3 Theodor Kundts Co. Clev. A lovely example of a by gone era. This may in fact be late 19th century. But I strongly suspect it's very early 20th century. It's cast-iron and Oak. Quite heavy for it's size. As seen in the photos, Lettering appears as"Eclipse" 5" twice per side& Cleveland" The seat and desk heights are fully adjustable by a range of about 6 1/2" It must have been touched up or restored at some point with flat black paint, because it has no sign of being adjusted. Other marking in a circle: T Kundtz Cleave O" and further numbers"5& 6 LB" The desktop is about 19-1/2" x 12" for scale. The height of the highest point of the desktop, as it is shown, is about 24" It's quite a nice piece for an early collector. Just that glue line is the only really flaw. The cast-iron shape and super ... moretight old grown grain of the Oak is just not seen or available any more. This matches any arts& crafts era(1890's- 1930's) home perfectly. For auction is a sweet little antique student school desk with a pull out drawer underneath. I was told it is probably from the early 1900's. But I'm not quite sure. It is very heavy and constructed of both wood and metal, which I believe is painted cast iron because of its weight. The metal has rust throughout and the top wooden part of the desk does have some movement. It appears the connecting bar underneath has snapped and will need to be soldered. But overall, this little school desk looks nice, even the way it is. The wood is still in great shape. Hard to come by one like this. Would make a nice photography prop for youngsters. They came from a Racine or Kenosha. Wisconsin school. The desks come in two parts. One part is two desks with two chairs. The under shelf of one of the desks is missing. Second part is a folding chair. All three chairs fold up. The height is roughly 28" at the highest point. Desks are about 21" wide and length is about 58" long with seat folded. PICK UP ONLY! Andrews Co: This furniture company was founded in 1865 by Alfred H. Andrews. A Connecticut native who moved to Chicago in 1857. By the end of the 1860s, Andrews employed about 70 men, who made about $150,000 worth of furniture each year. By the beginning of the 1880s, A. H. Andrews& Co. had become the largest firm in the city's robust furniture industry, employing about 500 people and manufacturing about $600,000 worth of school and office furniture each year.
