This trunk measures approximately 22" ... morelong X 14" wide X 15 1/2" high and it has two hinges in back that hold the lid securely to the base. There used to be sturdy leather handles on each side of the trunk but they are no longer intact, these can be purchased inexpensively on-line and they're fairly easy to replace. The corner protectors and hardware appear to be brass plated steel. There are two hasp type closures, one on each side of the lock and the lock needs to be bent just a little to close it securely. We tried the key and the locking mechanism seems to work properly but we didn't want to damage anything so it will arrive open with the key tucked in an envelope safely inside. The inside of the trunk is wood and there should be wood beneath the black material covering the outside(it is non-magnetic and we don't think it's metal) This little trunk is in very good condition and once it's restored it should be a beauty- perfect for your antique doll collection or as a gift for a very special grandchild. It measures 36 inches long by 24 in ches tall with the lid closed by 20 inches deep. It features a remova ble storage tray and more linens. Beddings. And clothing can be placed underne ath for conv enient additional hu ge storage. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. So you may want to grab it quick, before it is gone! Note: Not shipping overseas nor to Alaska on this one. Only to domestic United States. This antique Hartman Trunk Co. Steamer Suitcase/trunk has great appeal and character. Early 1900's. Covered in leather/cowhide with a pink silk interior this piece was sold by Saks Fifth Avenue. Bronze hinges with a really neat mechanism. Over all condition is great for the age. Leather hinge on the back has torn on the left side. The original owners initials are stamped on the front and have not work. The name of the owner is still on a travel tag attached to a Holland America cruise liner tag. ANTIQUE LOUIS VUITTON ROUNDED TOP LEATHER STEAMER TRUNK CIRCA 1854 to 1867
This is a numbered leather rounded top steamer trunk circa 1854 to 1867. The company started in 1854 and in 1867 changed the look to canvas and the top to a flat surface for better stacking. This trunk has a little recent damage to one outside corner from my daughters cats scratching but I think that can be smoothed out with the right tool. The trunk is over 100 years old so the outside is worn but it is in good condition in spite of the scratches. The inside is in beautiful condition with a wonderfully intack. Clean tray and 3 compartments below the tray with the ties still there to hold your clothes down? The outside leather handles are still there and in good condition. I never allowed anyone to move the trunk by using these handles. I also have a key to the trunk. There are, it seems to me, old European hotel sticker marks on the outside. ... moreI actually have some of these old, beautifully colored stickers from the 1950's or earlier that I would sell separtley. This piece of luggage is a real collectable Louis Vuitton and in better condition than any I have seen sold at other sales. Antique Black Steamer Travel Trunk Leather Handles on Each End Front Latch NEAT!
This auction is for a vintage steamer trunk. I think this is the right wording for them. This is black, hinged lid, leather strap handles on each end. Two clasp closures on the front, the main lock is missing the bottom as you can see in the photos. The inside is papered. This is worn and discolored, it is the original. There is a wooden bar on each side where the shelf would sit, but is no longer with the trunk. Measures right at 36" wide, 21.5" deep and 24" tall. It has weight to it! It is blue slim steamer trunk with blue leather trim and leather handles. The trunk opens up and locks in place to allow for clothes to hang from the hangers. The bottom area has dividers and ribbon ties to secure your items. Both sections have a cloth cover. The bottom has snaps to secure it to the bottom of one of the dividers. The straps would have buckled at the opening. You can see the leather strap retainers that are still in place. If you want, you can have someone who works leather to make these belt-like straps for you. The top is studded. This is quite unusual in that I've never seen it before myself. It no doubt gave the top some protection from other trunks that would have been stacked on top. I think it is quite a good look. The hardware on the front. Specifically the latches are quite ornate and show that this trunk was made back toward the Victorian era when everything was onamental in design. I figure this trunk was made in the early part of the 20th century and spent a lot of time on railroads and maybe steam ships(the labels certainly bear out the railroad part) Notice the heavy use of studded rivets all along the corner protectors. This shows the quality of the trunk and like the studded top. Improves the overall look. Up for your consideration is a rare antique Hardy valise. Steamer trunk This is a super Rare antique STEAMER TRUNK. ALL ORIGINAL made by HARDY LEATHER CRAFTSMAN, European made. I have tried to research HARDY CRAFTSMAN and can't find much. Seems to have been a British Co that was know for super quality leather work. Not so much in trunks though. I had a couple Trunk" experts" tell me this is a trunk made in the same style as the famous LOUIS VUITTON trunks. And was probably from around the turn of the century( 1900) or early 1900's It has a pull down drawer that I have taken pics of. It includes 2 original wooded hangers. All of the trim is brass colored which does have scratches. The Brass tone Latch/ Lock is is in working order. I have no key. All snaps are present and work. There are no rips or tears. All pieces appear to be present. Very nice. Solid Louis Vuitton calfskin trunk dating from between 1909 and 1915. Excellent patina to the leather, with no major spots- just an overall golden honey aging. It was found in a well-kept old barn, and all I've done is dust it off- I'll let you condition and polish it how you see fit. The trunk is an elegant size measuring 25" wide, 11"high, and 13" deep. The brass hardware is in excellent condition. The lock inscribed'BTE S.G.D.G. PATENT, LOUIS VUITTON, 1. RUE SCRIBE PARIS, LONDON 149. NEW BOND STREET, MADE IN FRANCE' and numbered 028224. Louis Vuitton is stamped on the larger bolts and LV on the two outer latches. The beautiful label has the first 4 shops' addresses, dating it to post-Lille(1909) and pre-Champs-Elysees(1915) The two sides are embossed with the owner's letters"McL" ... moreThe calfskin trunks are rare because they were more expensive, and all special orders, meaning they didn't make them and have them hanging around the shop- they were custom made, so the initials were embossed on the leather before it was made, as it would be impossible after, unlike painted initials. The interior is lined with ivory linen, with fittings for one removable tray. Interior stamped with number 168673. There are overall scrapes, and chipping to the top edges, where some leather has worn away. The handle looks to be not original- my guess is the original one wore off and this one fit, so it was strapped on. This was likely a very prized trunk from the early days of the golden age of travel. Perfect for the discerning decorator. Very solid and the lid operates smoothly, and there are no problems with hardware- although I've never fully pressed in the center lock clasp for fear it would stay locked. This is the very early hand woven linen monogram canvas which was produced from 1896-1904. The serial number 106906 should put it around 1899. Here we have a beautiful antique late 1800's Edwardian leather trunk from England in used antique vintage condition. very beautiful rare and unique. All leather with cream linen lining inside. Wonderful restoration project. In as found antique condition. These are very hard to find. The trunk measures 21 inches by 14 inches by 36 inches long. Both straps are in good condition. Has brass hardware. Both locks work but have no keys. I wonder what travels this old trunk has seen. It probably came across on an ocean liner back in the day. It has two old labels on it. One says Victoria British Transport, British Railways and the other says Southern Railway, London Via Dunkerque. Must have taken the railways and trains a lot too. The locks say British Lever on them. 1900's Antique Yale & Towne Steamer Trunk Chest Wood Leather Brass
This is a great antique trunk that at one time was used by Lumpee& Russ Harness Makers; I cannot make out the rest of the wording. The trunk is structurally solid. The valet tray has two holes but this could be nicely refinished. The top tray has two sections with one that does have the leather/button loop closure intact. There is no key in the locking mechanism that was made by Yale Towne MFG out of Stamford. Conn. It weighs just under 55 pounds. This is being sold as is. If you live on the I-5 corridor on the west coast(Washington, Oregon and California) I have a shipper. This is a very nice piece that looks like it dropped out of the cargo hold of a ship from the 20's. It has a great feel and shows its age as the seems are pulling apart. The paint is weathered, there is no key, the latch does not work and there is no key. Very well made and would be a lovely feature for a display or to give a real vintage feel to your favorite room. You are bidding on/ buying an ANTIQUE 1920s GENUINE COWHIDE LEATHER STEAMER TRUNK. I come across quite a few suitcases. I have yet to see one in as good a shape. And as unique a design as this one. It is the size of a small suitcase. But shaped like a trunk. It measures 24 inches across the front 13 1/2 inches deep, and 10 inches tall. It has steamer style straps. Silver accent hardware, all original. It almost has a walrus or elephant texture to the hide of the material. You can see the patterning up close in photo 12. The top part of this piece expands up about 3 inches if you fill it to do so. If not it sits flat. Photos 8& 11. There are 2 straps around the case. In great condition. On the front of the case there is a lock latch, and 2 securing latches. All 3 in good order. Inside looks good. All the straps there are in great shape ... moretoo. This is attractive distressed leather trunk from the first quarter of the 20th Century is a truly charming decorative piece. These are quite versatile pieces, originally designed to carry luggage, but today used flexibly in the home as a decorative piece in the living room as an incredible strike point coffee table in front of a large leather couch. The present example is a fine work that would originally have been prohibitively expensive, crafted of thick ... morecowhide leather covering the entire surface of the exterior and interior of the trunk, the exterior surfaces still fully original with a fine worn and distressed appeal. The straps are replaced, along with the handles along the sides, allowing this to be a more functional and sturdy piece. It is remarkably heavy, but with the replaced handles it is not a difficult piece to move around the home. It rests over small caster wheels, allowing it to roll if necessary. If you open the lid. For your consideration.An Antique and very Vintage entirely leather,and leather cornered) suitcase and or as once called, motoring trunk"Determined age is most likely from between 1920- 1950.It has much character, and functions as originally intended, minus the key for the brass push lock.Obviously well made enough to last till this day,it is all leather including all 8 corners.The lock, buckles,snaps, and rivets are all brass, or brass plated.There is a detailed border striping around the top and each side, and the liner inside is still intact.The stitching is very heavy and I do not see one area on the entire item that has unraveled.Upon searching the in& outside, I was only able to come up with 3 identifiable marks.The latches on each end are made by Corbin, the lock has the letter"A" just above the key hole, and the ... morenumber 8 is embossed into the leather on the rear panel.A name and address from the previous owner is written in ink on the left rear corner,which has only a route& box listed, no street address.Item came from a rural area.No cleaning has taken place on this item,only wiped down to remove surface dust, and swept nicely on the inside.There is one strip of leather& buckle for the inside top panel that is missing,and the outside belt on the left front side is worn, almost detached. Early Vintage Travelling Storage Wardrobe Steamer Trunk dates back to about 1910. 42" tall X 23" wide and deep. Cured genuine leather stretched over a sold wood frame. Yellow in color with a nice patina. All edges and corners protected by brass plating. There are 6 functioning ball type wheels on the bottom which allows the user to roll the trunk while flat. And an additional 2 functioning wheels allow the user to roll the trunk while standing on end and towing with the leather handle(picture shown) All metal edges do have some wear but this gives the trunk a great look. The locking hardware is functioning. And is stamped EXCELSIOR#4230 Made in Stamford, Conn USA. Excelsior began making this lock in 1910. The locking mechanism is controlled by the exterior latch which in turn stabilizes the drawers for travel(shown in picture) There ... moreis 1 key from the Independent Lock Co#1076 Made in Fitchburg. Mass USA(valued at $18.95 on Ebay) The interior fabric is a copper monochromatic damask which is in good shape considering the age(picture shown) Once settled at their destination. The traveller may lift the padded top portion of the trunk up using the attached hinges to reveal and unlock the hanging garments(see main picture) There are 5 drawers which feature the same copper damask on their fronts. And brown lining within(picture shown) The top drawer is missing the lock, the bottom drawer is missing the handle, and both drawers do have a little water damage. There are 4 original hangers(1 shirt. 1 pant, and 2 coat) These hangers rest upon a chrome bar which extends outward 18" to allow the traveller to peruse their garments and avoid wrinkling. The hanging garments are protected from dust during travel by a copper damask curtain that snaps closed at the bottom. Approximated weight is 85 lbs. Finnigan was a well known luggage crafter out of Manchester England and later moved on to London. It came out of a barn in Northern VT. RARE Antique Henry Pollack Vtg 2 tone Leather Steamer Trunk w/ ALL compartments
I purchased this trunk at a sale in Santa Fe about 4-5 summers ago. This is by far the most remarkable travel steamer trunk I have ever seen. It is entirely covered in leather. Even the bottom. Instead of the usual wooden"straps" across the sides and top, this trunk has beige leather straps crossing the top and sides. The bottom does have the wood approx. 2" wide straps on the bottom. These tan leather on the top, front and sides are affixed with hundreds of brass round head tacks. The skin leather is a rich brown. It is thick and slightly weathered with a few cracks in the leather but I have kept it oiled and soft. The inside is equally as remarkable with 2 removable compartments. Both compartments have everything with them they came with. the top compartment has 3 leather straps with snaps that keep it shut. It can be opened ... moreby folding the lid back once or twice. The snaps read Polly Brand on them making them the original snaps. It also is complete with brass handles on the sides. Both compartments along with the entire interior has the original linen striped covering. The second compartment is complete as well with original linen ties. 4 brackets to keep it resting on both sides.everything is there. The woman I bought this from said a relative owned it during the war but I don't remember if she told me which war or I just never asked. In any case. I don't know. There are minor imperfections with this trunk, all of which I've noted but the leather skin, the leather straps, the brass tacks, the compartments.make this trunk Wonderful and Rare. It is a terrific decor piece as a stand alone. This trunk measures 32 1/4" long x 20 1/4" deep x 20" tall. I'm sure it weighs around 50 plus pounds. Antique China Trade Leather Bound Camphor Trunk Chest c 1800s Painted Blue Brass
Outstanding China trade camphor trunk. This timeless lift top chest has been bound in turquoise colored leather and painted with a floral design that really makes it stand out as a decorative piece. The edges have been framed with brass nail heads and the edges and corners have brass bracings as well. The top is lifted with a ring-shaped handle and there are simple metal bail handles on the sides. A shield-shape escutcheon surrounds the lock in the front. The inside of this piece is clean and uncovered. Based on similar pieces. The trunk most likely dates from the latter half of the 19th century. Overall. This piece is in good antique condition with no structural issues. There is some wear and damage to the leather, most notably a hole in the back, some tiny holes in the central design on the top and a rip to the leather on the bottom of ... morethe lid at the front. The chest stands 13 1/2" tall and measures 29 1/2" long and 15 1/2" wide. Incredible and very rare early 1900s hornback crocodile/alligator full size suitcase. It measures: 29.5" L x 9" W x 18" T and is very heavy weighing 22LB! the inside has some stains and the leather straps are quite worn. The outside skin has general age related wear. when closing it fits inside 3 brass clips which can be very tricky to line up as its heavy and stiff but once closed it locks pretty easily. overall its in very good antique condition and presents beautifully. Due to its age. Size and weight, I would say its much more suited for display than use. Truly a remarkable piece!

While Originally used as an Early Masonic/Freemason Wardrobe Box. It was repurposed by a Mr. Irving L Eales as a Comedy Kit. Mr Eales lived from 1883- 1918 in Janeville, Wisconsin. The trunk is in Extremely Well-Kept condition with no rust or major flaws. Besides the leather carry handle being broken in half, the box shows light surface scratches, wear& writing.

Trunk Description: Approximate measurements: 30” wide. 15” tall, 15” deep. A travel trunk manufactured and labeled by Louis Vuitton of Paris. France, circa early 1900's. A leather covered trunk with leather corner bindings and brass latches, lock, and rivets. The trunk serial number is 181974, stamped on the inside lining next to the label as typical. The Louis Vuitton signature style label, showing the Paris and London retail addresses, is in very good condition. The trunk was made sometime between about 1910 to 1930 based on the serial number, but only the Louis Vuitton company has the records which can identify the actual age of the trunk. The brown leather covering shows typical signs of aging and wear, and there is a small piece missing on the front of the lid. The leather corner binding is in good condition with some rubbed spots. ... moreThe center leather tie-down strap is missing, but the leather strap holders are present except the one over the lock. The two side handles are missing and the rivcts for the handles holders are present. There are several partial paper travel stickers on the trunk which do not add any specific history for the trunk. The interior lift out trays are missing as well as the lower divider pieces which are removable. The lining is in fair to good condition with some small stains and small tears. The leather on the bottom of the trunk is aged and cracked, but present and the three wood slats are all marked with the name and have the original iron rollers. This trunk was advertised by Louis Vuitton as a flat top“Boot and Shoe Trunk” according to descriptions from early Louis Vuitton catalogs. Sizes of these trunks varied a little over the years. But this style and size indicate it was a Ladies Boot and Shoe Trunk. The boot and shoe trunks were made in various sizes for men and women, with several sizes to hold different numbers of pairs of shoes and boots. Winship is an early company established in the 1700's and that manufactured trunks. They joined forces in 1776 with the London Harness Company. I am not sure about the exact age of this trunk. I believe this is a trunk designed to be used in a wagon/coach or an early car. It has leather bindings which appear to be for strapping it into a vehicle. the straps would slip thru the bindings) There are wooden boards on the bottom to protect the trunk so I would say it is well constructed. It has what I believe is a linen lining which is very securely ... moreattached to the leather. It has a nice lock on the front but there is no key. There are 2 leather handles on each end of the trunk for carrying and these are in very nice condition. On the front is the brass plague/label for W.W. Winship of Boston. Mass. Please refer to photo# 5. The trunk measures about 29 1/2 inches side to side across the outside edges and it is 15 1/2 inches front to back. It measures 12 1/2 inches top to bottom. It is in good condition but not perfect. It does have some wear to the surface as can be seen in the photos and also to the edges/corners of the lid from use. As mentioned there is no key to the lock. The leather is somewhat stiff from age as might be expected. It has been lightly cleaned with saddle soap but could probably use more and a leather conditioner would help to soften the leather. Overall. Considering the age it is in very nice condition.
