Virginia at a bankruptcy auction for $500. Placed in charge of the small, corrugated iron building, his son Edward Hudson Lane decided to convert the facility in order to make cedar chests. The Lane family was unsure of what success they would have selling chests, so they originally named the company The Standard Red Cedar Chest Co. The firm manufactured and sold chests used to store linens and other items for setting up housekeeping, as well as keepsakes. Offering this very attractive antique Lane small profile Cedar Chest style#336 with a manufacturing date of July 26. 1927. This petite beauty is just 36 inches wide, 17 1/2 inches deep and just 14 1/2 inches tall. It could have been or could be slightly taller if the caster feet were replaced. It has two copper or brass plated gate post looking straps which is a nice matching add to the fine petina of the cedar wood. There are some rough marks and finish misses, heavy on left front edge and some other visible scratch markings in other areas of the lid. See Photos. This is a very nice Lane Cedar chest from the 1930s possibly 40s. It is all original and is art deco period. It has a rounded top with waterfall desighn. And has matching book end design. The exterior wood is tiger maple i believe, though i have seen others listed as blonde mahogony in classic heringbone design.so not 100% sure. The manufacterers label says 70% cedar. Has original finish with original lock with Lane logos, easures 46" wide- 19" front to back and is 23" tall. See pictures for more info and condition. Some ware and scuffs consistant with an older piece. be sure to see picture of top with deep 4" scratch. A good polishing would go along way to bringing back this chest. This is a great example of one of their early chests measuring 45" long x 19" tall x 22.5" deep. This comes with its original cedar tray and cedar chips(which is shown in the box inside the chest. Tin banding with copper studs embellish this. Just looking at this you'd think it was a perfect specimen. But closer inspection shows that there are some paint scuffs where it came into something painted white, it was used in a workroom so there are saw marks on the very edge of one corner, and you'll find a few nicks and scratches. but heck, it is an antique and none of it is that bad. All four castors are in great condition and you can push this around the room with one finger. It currently resides in my shop so it could be sold during anytime of this auction. The cabinet has a beautiful rope carved molded edge top, a simulated five-drawer raised panel front that really has one real drawer on the base. It’s also felt-lined for supplies. The cabinet sits upon wonderful detailed ball and claw cabriole carved legs with clamshell carvings right on the elbows, which is unbelievable. Rope molding across the front, clamshell carving across the simulated faux drawer in the center, and it retains its original brass Chippendale hardware. Up for auction is this wonderful Lane Cedar Antique hope chest from the early 1900’s. The chest has a tray on top. The chest is in wonderful condition with only one mark that I found on it. The chest measures 47” long. 18 ¾” deep, 19 ½” high, inside chest is 15 ¼” deep, 44” long, 16 ½” wide. When I went to list this the lock will need to be replace and Lane is replacing them free. This is a very Beautiful. Very well taken care of LANE cedar lined Mahogany Queen Anne chest. It has all the original papers still in the chest as it came from Lane. The color is more like the second picture of just the top. You will not find anything nicer than this on ebay or craigslist. The pictures do not do it justice. There is some normal wear due to the age and use. The top also looks like someone put a cup on it without a coster. All in all this is an amazing piece of history and furniture for any home.

This beautiful art deco multi-veneer cedar chest dates from the 1940s. My parents were the original owners. The interior has a triple-sectioned. Felt-lined tray for valuables and a cedar-lined interior to protect your goods from moths. The chest has a rolled front and multi-veneer face with five different veneers across the front. The top has a V-shaped design and the feet on the bottom are carved and notched. Original antique/vintage art deco Lane Cedar Chest. This has been in our family since 1947. It is Style# 2120. Serial# 641260. According to the Lane website, date of manufacture is coded in the serial# just reverse the numbers. So this chest was manufactured on 06/21/46. It measures approximately 48" long x 18" wide x 18" high. I have included several pictures so you can see the overall condition. There are a lot of light scratches on the lid(nothing deep) and a few more on the front and sides. There are also several small patches where the veneer has come off on the edges and one section where one of my children drew a couple of small pictures. I am not an expert on restoration. But I would think that these veneer sections could be repaired. The interior is in very good condition- no chips or scratches anywhere on the cedar ... moreplanks and the felt is intact and complete. The lid opens smoothly and closes completely. The legs are solid and are also intact. At one point. The Lane Company did issue a recall on the locks/latches of these chests so the lock will be removed. They are offering free lock replacement kits that can be acquired by calling their toll-free number. Considering this chest is close to 70 years old. And all of the moves it has gone through, it is in overall solid, good condition with a lot of use left in it. All sales are final. So please ask any questions before bidding. Inside is very nice, other than the staples holding the felt lining coming out in the upper left tray. No Lock. Bottom drawer is sagging some. Lane Sock Cedar Chest ANtique Vintage
This is an unusual piece I cannot find another like in my research. But quite certain it is a factory piece and fyi, I picked it up about an hour away from its birthplace in Altavista, Virginia. I believe this was used for storing wool socks and other smaller garments from moths. I just wiped this off with a damp cloth. Leaving the final finish up to the new owner. The flaws are some scratching on the surface. Some edge splits(that could be glued) and a small chunk missing at the tip of the"foot" lid. Also. There are nail holes toward the top on each side evidencing there was a straight piece of cedar creating another section originally.but easily fixed. This cedar chest measures 32.5 long x 8 1/4 deep(not including the foot) x 7 inches high.

Antique "Lane Cedar Chest" 12/5/1929 Style 7340 Blankets, Woolens Altavista VA
The"Lane Cedar Chest Company" started in business as the"Standard Red Cedar Chest Company" in 1912 and the name changed to Lane Cedar Chest in 1922. Chest and box manufacture was their primary business. This chest is in excellent condition. And has a push in latch. We vacuumed out the interior, cleaned the exterior, and treated the exterior with Howards Restor-a Finish Mahogany and then with furniture oil. The scroll Panel on the front is wood and there are a couple of very small dents and dings. Like many of the later chests this is solid red cedar on all sides covered with verneer but the rear could be finished so it can sit in the open in a room and be used as a cocktail table. With or without glass. This piece is ready for you to use. Not a fixer up project, and all you need to do is add your clothing items. UNLIKE THE NEWER ONES THAT HAVE PARTICAL BOARD LEGS AND LOWER SKIRTS, THIS ONE IS ALL WOOD AND MADE LIKE A TANK! THE TOP MEASURES 48" WIDE BY 19.25" DEEP. Antique Lane Cedar Chest/Blanket Box/Trunk- 1945
Absolutely beautiful Lane cedar chest stamped 1945. Very solid and sturdy piece. Finish is in great condition. Only a few minor imperfections. The grain on this piece looks amazing. Inside is fitted with one shelf for extra storage. All original paperwork is still intact on the inside. Authentic serial number from lane on the bottom. Piece is missing a hinge bracket and bold, probably an easy fix. This is a great piece all around, come check it out! All locks and latching mechanisms have been removed due to a safety recall by Lane Furniture. New locks can been requested free of charge through Lane's website.
