Original finish brown enameled steel frame school desk. Maple top and seat parts. Wood has been linseed oiled and original varnish finish is gone. Inside and some areas show wear and tear. Desk can be put into use as is or touched up and the wood finished. Seat swivels. Top has leveling latch for writing, Top stays open momentarily when storage is accessed. Very good condition as if taken right from the classroom. Inkwell centered suggests it's vintage/age. In Minneapolis MN and I have 3 desks exactly the same.

Vintage American Seating Co School Desk Patent July 28, 1925
School desk that I purchased for my daughter she has outgrown. I purchased from the grand daughter of a local retired school librarian. Whose husband was a well known local high school football coach. I did not repaint, refinish, or affect appearance in any way. I think this desk has seen very limited actual student use. The woman we purchased from said that Granny brought home in like new condition. Therefore I believe it was never touched to improve appearance. Only real kid marks from the woman we bought from, her mother, her children, and my daughter. Local Pick-up can be arranged, possible personal delivery if close enough with compensation for such service. My first grader can sit in it easily. I estimate that a second or possibly smaller third grade student could sit in this desk. Its in very good structural condition. Its a little rough cosmetically. All the wood is in great shape. The metal has only surface rust in some areas. I can't determine whether it has the original paint or if someone has tried to work on it before. Vintage American Seating Co. Child's School Desk with Bench Seat A very unique version of an item I see so often they all tend to look alike. Not only is this desk a great piece of Americana but it also serves as a nice piece of Folk Art. The art is what drew my attention. It's simple and quaint. The desk and bench seat were made by the American Seating Co. I am unsure of the year of manufacture but I know that the bolt down desk and chair were replaced by the 1 piece desk/chair unit. Also. What's nice about this piece, is that it's not small. I can sit comfortably at it without feeling cramped. The overall dimensions are 33"L x 23 1/2"W x 31 3/8"H Dimensions for the bench seat is 22"across x 31 3/8"tall x 15"deep Dimensions for the desk are 23 1/2"across x 28"tall x 16"deep The ... morewood is in rather good condition considering its age. There is a small crack on the backrest of the bench seat though. There are also pencil. Crayon, pen, and other assorted markings on the wood desk top and even a few shallow etchings. Typical stuff that kids do. I think it adds personality and charm. Pieces like this are to see and appreciate not necessarily to be functional. Although, this can be both I suppose. Local pick up is welcomed and shipping can also be arranged. I am also willing to deliver to a limited range for a negotiated and reasonable price agreed upon before purchase. It occurred to me that it would be possible to remove the desk and bench seat from the mounting boards and ship the items in separate cartons. Great Deal-Worth Much More! Charming swivel seat antique child's desk in excellent condition for age. One piece. Got desk in Lancaster. PA, Amish country. Under lid is a child's signature of Janelle, and Janelle was an Amish friend and I believe it was hers. Desk top and chair have been stained, could be returned to original patina. Wooden top(friend in construction believes it is oak) contains an ink well, a place for pencil, and lifts up to metal storage space-does not stay open(missing one of 4 screws holding lid-might stay open with 4th screw-I didn't add screw, didn't want to change originality) Storage space has another pencil holder. Vintage Wooden Children's School Desk by American Seating Company Early 1900's
Here is a nice vintage child's school desk from an early 20th Century one-room school in the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky(Whitley County) My mother. A teacher, obtained it in the 1960's when they were disposing of them. She refinished it. Looks great. Beautiful wooden desk top and seat on a sturdy metal frame. Embossed on the metal are the initials"A S Co" which I believe represents the American Seating Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is a truly a nice showpiece. Would be a great gift for a teacher.
