As I peruse the listings I see very similar desks all made in different places. In the days of these desks they must have been made more or less locally since there weren't highways and trucks to transport them around the country. This desk. As I presume the others as well, was patented, yet all the desks are pretty much the same. I don't understand that, maybe it was hard to enforce the patent laws back then. at any rate, this one was made by the S. S. Case Co. in Hartford. Connecticut prior to 1910. If you really want one of these desks and there isn't one local for you I am willing to ship this. It really is too large for me to find a box for it so it will have to go by freight. The desk weighs around 70lbs and I would strap it to a skid which weighs about 40 Lbs I would then stretch wrap it to keep it clean. I'm putting 130 in the freight calculator as the weight. But feel free to check other carriers on your own and I'll work with you. I've heard good things about Uship.com but you'll have to check them out for yourself. A rare oldie made from sturdy(we think oak? not sure) wood and heavy duty cast iron legs and supports. This school desk would look great in any sitting room. Museum, or as a decoration in a school office. Very rustic and has a great antique look and feel to it. As for measurements. The desk stands 25 1/2 inches tall, is 20 7/8 inches wide with e 28 inch measurement front to back. The cast iron legs have a neat Victorian Scroll design and are marked Buffalo New York and with the number 3 and three patent dates from 1881. 1890 and 1897. The piece oozes nostalgia with wood that has a great. Rich patina. Among the carved names are"Joyce" and"Jack" and other pictures. Including something that looks like a flower. The desk has a shelf beneath the desktop. The desktop itself has a well for pencils and a hole for an ink well. The piece was a recent purchase from an estate sale near Harrisburg. Pa. It is sturdy in all respects with a seat that folds up smoothly. They have been in my family since I was a child and at one time we had the desks to them that we used at home as kids. Antique adjustable child's Desk and Chair made by Chandler Co. of Boston Massachusetts- wood with cast iron legs- chair leg marked with patent dates Nov 14. 1893 and June 9, 1893. This desk and chair set needs restoration. Both the desk and the chair indicate they are adjustable on cast iron bases. The desk is suppose to adjusts and the seat can adjust as well- though this old antique school desk and chair does need refurbishing. The desk has slates of loose wood on top and bottom, and one leg of desk is not affixed to bottom. It's possible that one leg on desk will be removed for shipping. Though this desk set has been in storage for many year. The bent wood chair is in solid condition- Both desk and chair do show age with scratches, scuffs, nicks and minor dings and digs. The Cast Iron base of the chair is marked"CHANDLER" ... morealong with the patent dates from the late 1800's.
