The trunk features a"cushion top" with a fold out hanger system with original hangers. The drawers are all there. As well as a piece that sits in the bottom drawer(see pictured photo) There is also a piece thats used to secure the hangers farther back that is pictured. The hinges are all working however need to be cleaned. The locks appear in very good condition. No keys. These trunks were the very best. Right at the top with Louis Vuitton, Goyard, M. M. Secor, etc. This trunk was one of Hartmann's top models of the time, costing close to $200.that's over $2500 in today's market. Only a well-to-do gentleman or lady would have owned something this expensive and of this quality. This particular trunk is a cushion-top model, and is also gibraltarized, patentened process in order to make the trunk frame very strong. This is all steel-frame construction. The trunk features a velvet cushioned top to protect clothing during travel. All original"unbreakable hangers" a garment bag for clothing worn, all hand riveted, and featered a patented locking mechanism that actually hooks so your trunk would never open in travel. From the hangers to the cloth lining, and cloth ties, this was made for an entire wardrobe to moved about without putting a wrinkle in any of your items. You see the condition, she definitely has character. The bare wood was once covered with a heavy type decorative paper, most of that is gone but you see some remnants of that in places. The original label was found in the trunk. It belonged to a gentleman in Escanaba Michigan. Maybe you can reincorporate the label back into a repurpose project(maybe lacqure it onto the top side? There is leather and metal construction incorporated into this little trunk. The leather handle is broken and the leather straps are gone with just some of their remnants being in place. Up for sale is this vintage or antique early 20th century humpback trunk. The front. Back and top have metal panels with a reptile skin texture. The side metal panels are smooth with a blue tint. The humpback top has wood banding. There is metal banding on the edges. It has metal one directional wheels on the bottom. There is extensive patina on the metal and wear on the wood finish. Part of the metal lid strip is missing on the front corner, and the leather handles are missing. It has 2 broken hinges and the inside shows use wear as in soiling, filth, staining. The lid on the insert is detached but is included with the trunk. It has a strong smell of moth balls. The lock does not latch and we do not have the key. However, the other 2 latches do function. The wardrobe side even has its Original Wooden Hangers that are built right in and an ingenious Slide Bar so you can decrease the area as the size of your clothing dictates. Below the wardrobe is a fold down box which we assume was for shoes. To the Right is a 4 Drawer Dresser with Drawers for even more storage. The drawers are all relatively narrow given the trunk's size but they are all Extra Deep! Outside. The trunk has a Black Leather like outer surface with Big Metal Corner Protectors on all Corners and all the Protectors are Intact! This 116 year old NEVERBREAK trunk was one of two that was purchased in 1898 in Newark. NJ, by my maternal great-great grandparents as a wedding present for their daughter and new son-in-law for their honeymoon cruise to Europe. Family history has the couple making numerous trips overseas and cruising to various countries for pleasure as well as to conduct business. The couple had a total of seven children and enjoyed a marriage of 61 years. I inherited this trunk quite sometime ago and although there is sentimental value due to the family ties I have had to come to the realization that I just don't have room. Or real need for it. I would rather see it be used than wasted. Overall Dimensions: 44"L x 21.5"W x 22"D Weight is approximately#75 lbs I don't have anyway of accurately weighing such a bulky object. But# 75 lbs ... moreis realistic. There are five(5) drawers with varing sizes and all with their complete and original hardware except on one drawer where the pull is missing. All of the drawers are in tact and all that are required have the original cotton canvas clothing ties used to keep clothes neatly stacked and stored in place during travel. Dimensions of Drawers: 1) 21"L x 4.5"W x 9.5"D 2) 21"L x 10.25"W x 9.5"D 3) 21"L x 10"W x 9.5"D 4) 21"L x 7.5"W x 9.5"D 5) 21"L x 7.0"W x 9.5"D It has three(3) original wooden coat and suit hangers; along with two(2) pant hangers. All of which travel securely. While resting on two extendable metal rods. There are also two(2) original wooden stabilizer bars with original clips and clasps. There are no bad odors or noxious smells associated with this trunk. All clasps and locks work great. I have misplaced the key. But am in the process of locating it. Antique Wardrobe Steamer Trunk / Vintage travel stickers/ Mendel Trunx - Lutz
This is a fabulous early 1900s black heavy steamer trunk lined with fabric. Once opened. There are 3 dropdown compartments which are suspended by sweet hardware from the era. All are covered with a nice blue fabric in great condition, and each closes with a small flat latch. There is a hanger bar front to back with several original wood hangers. there are tie rack bars running front to back on each side. The trunk compartment is lined with the original blue satin material sporting several shoe pockets surrounding the sides and back. This material should be replaced or refurbished. It is old and stained, torn in areas. Graphics suggest it is a Mendel Trunx. Label says Lutz of Washington D.C. There are heavy leather handels. And travel stickers on the trunk: one from Rome, and a couple of others. All in all.
