I am honored to offer this beautiful Victorian Carved Brown Walnut Parlor Center Lamp Table with Oval White Italian Cararra Marble Top. Estimated to have been crafted around 1875. This gorgeous brown walnut table weighs about 80 pounds with the marble top and is approximately 26" deep/front to back. Approximately 35.5" wide/left to right and approximately 30" high/tall. I beleive this table to have the original finish. The detail that went into crafting this table is astonishing. This white. Grey and black veined scrolled beveled edge Italian Cararra marble oval top has it's original finish and is in excellent antique condition with natural occuring tan coloration and character marks normally expected with antique white marble. I particularly like the diagonal viening in the marble which is fairly uniform and straight for ... morea natural formed stone. This table is very similar to another table from another seller here on eBay. But the diagonal viening on this table is much more atractive than the marble viening on the other sellers table. The marble sits very flatly and securely on the detailed carved brown walnut oval shaped table frieze/apron. The table is raised on four X configured lower legs with ring turned spindles and a large ring turned center pedestal and center drop finial. Three of the four swivel casters appear to be original and one appears to be replacement with a brass swivel caster. This circa 1875 table is very well crafted with solid construction and is in excellent antique condtion with only minor wear to the original finish. The table has been professionally refinished at some point in the past and has a wonderful color, patina and look. Big beautiful slab of thick grey and white Vermont marble in super condition. Super carving and applied moldings to the legs and 4 wonderful carved female heads on the 4 sides of the deep skirt in cartouches framed with swagged drapes. From the headress and hair style, they appear to be either Egyptian or Grecian styles, hence the attribution. The finish on this looks original. Though the top flat surface appears like the finish wore off through the years or was rubbed off. The legs and curved sides on the top have am ancient looking finish and lovely patina. I have a doily which fits the top perfectly which I will include. Walnut veneer on solid walnut and oak. Table top apron with decorative molding. Stylized Renaissance five baluster pedestals base splits-opens in half to expose a middle baluster pedestal support(when opened table is extremely sturdy and comfortable for use) Four legs with decorative griffin heads and original casters. Hand carvings. Molded decorative discs and finials on base. Original iron catches underneath the base for locking it in the closed mode. Three leaves without aprons for easier handling and storing( somewhat usual for continental dining tables from the 19th Century as table cloth was mandatory element of decoration) Leaves grain matching the top perfectly. L 49 1/2" x W 41 1/2" e ach leaf 27 1/2" total Length 124" x H 31 1/4" Table has some wear and tear in the form of surface scratches. Also it has ... moreone nick on the table top edge. Furthermore, top has old crack which was stabilized and fixed but it shows(it's charming) Purchased from a private home in Manheim, Germany. Table top opens per length rather than per width as usually tables do, so once the leaves are inserted the WIDTH becomes 49 1/2" and the total LENGTH with all three leaves inserted 124" basically length when closed- a longer measurement, become width when opened) Historicism is a nostalgic movement from the middle 19th Century and specifically in Germany it followed Biedermeier period. This was an era when French and Germans(I mention French as Germans looked to them and the British for decorative arts inspiration) especially yearned for the past with return of the Bourbons in France(Louis Philippe was the ruler) and German confederation awaiting the 1848 revolution with many monarchs in power. French Louis Philippe style is an obvious influence on this table but influence of Renaissance, Biedermeier and neo-classicism are also clearly visible. This is a solid black walnut. Heavily carved table attributed to Thomas Brooks back in the 1870s era. This table came out of a local estate sale, and you can see the really nice walnut pieces we got there on the site. This table has a beautiful white and gray grain marble oval ogee beveled edge top, and the overall it’s 38 inches long and 29 inches wide, and 29 inches high without casters. Look at the base, with its Brooks molded skirt along the side, and the base has extra heavy cut legs with excessive carving attached to the burl walnut trim.
