Up for consideration is a rare. Restored, antique wall trunk. It has a working lock& key. It has dated hinges that read"Dec 22 1891" It has been cleaned well inside and out. A new covering was put inside to resemble the old, so no musty smell. All original hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish. New leather handles were put on. And there are beveled top trunks which are equally rare, but the beveled top wall trunk is a VERY rare find indeed. M.M. Secor was located in Racine, Wisconsin and at the height of their production they had 250 employees producing around 80,000 trunks per year. Although they made a large number of trunks, they produced very few of the beveled top wall trunk. M& M Secor's Antique Wall Trunk Patented January 2. 1894. A subspecies of the steamer, the wall trunk is a trunk that can be opened flush against a wall. This trunk is in very good condition. The wood is solid. As you can see someone painted the metal so it is not the original color. All of the hardware is original and in good condition. The lock mechanism works but there is no key. These trunks are very rare due to not many being made. The closed trunk measures approximately 19" deep x 31" tall x 22" high. The piece is missing that covers the sectioned top so things will not fall out when closing it. Not shown in the pictures is when the top is open there is a drawer you can pull open. Unusual Clinton"Wall" trunk manufactured in Clinton. MA about 1900 give or take 10 years. A wall trunk is hinged so that you don't have to pull it away from the wall when you open the lid. Very good antique shape. Tin has two-toned raised grapevine pattern. Brass key shield. Cast iron hinges are stamped with manufacturer's name etc. Trunk has original tray fitted for the wall design with a huge maker's label still intact. Maker's labels are hard to find and this one is very large. Original paper inside is in fair-good shape. Approximately 32"W x 23"H x 19"D This is an antique so it has some bumps& bruises. My best friend just stopped by to say good-bye to me on her way home to Atlanta and she said in our 20 years of flea marketing and going to auctions together she has never seen a Wall Trunk. What a great surprise to her to see this beauty- and in my 20 years of auctions I have come across 4 in all these years. But this one takes the cake- it is lovely. This Wall Trunks dates to Ca. 1880's. A Wall Trunk can sit against the wall and you can open it without having to pull it away from the wall. The hinges are on the top. There were numerous Trunk Makers that made Wall Trunks. Some famous like Clinton Wall Trunk Company from Clinton, MA. This one does not have any markings, so I am not sure who the maker was. But I can tall you it is solid and very strong. Originally brown thick canvas covered. The canvas was removed to expose the wood underneath. ... moreWe treated it with Golden Oak Stain, then a coat of Tung Oil, and two coats of Satin Polyurethane. The finish is nice and smooth. Inside we removed the stained dried paper and sanded the sides smooth. We have left it natural. There is no tray. The front hinges work. The lock does not, but it is very ornate. Four castors on the bottom make moving the trunk easier. The bottom was cleaned and painted flat black. Please feel free to email if you would like more photos of the trunk. Nice Refinished Clinton Brand Flat Top Wall Trunk With Manufacturer's Label. Working Lock& Key, And Interior Tray Here is a very unique refinished patent dated and factory labeled Clinton Wall Trunk. Here are the following measurements: from left to right across the front is 33 1/4 inches. From floor to top is 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 inches. This trunk is named a wall trunk since it can be put right up against the wall and the lid can be lifted up without hitting the wall since very little space is needed for it to open properly. Most trunks need to be about three or four inches away from the wall for the lid to be opened. Look at the pictures and we have shown the signed and patent dated hinges. It is signed, Clinton Wall Trunk Mfg Co Clinton Mass Patented Feb 25 1890" We detailed these embossed numbers ... moreand letters with black paint to make them more legible. We are calling this a flat top steamer trunk, although there is a very slight factory arch to the top, noticeable in the side view picture. This trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak outer slat boards. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it and give it a nice appearance. The wood is in it's natural color which is a tannish brown color. There are a couple of typical stress cracks in the wood. Most all of the trunks that we refinish have one or more stress cracks. The front latches are original and work ok since the springs are in place. We have given this trunk a nice older sturdy working lock, signed"Yale" It comes with the proper key so you can lock your personal belongings away from others if you choose to do so. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have made a nice tray for the interior. It rests at the top edge. You can sort smaller items in this tray, then lift it up and place many more items deep inside the belly of the trunk. We have shown a close up picture of

Called a wall trunk because it opens straight up- you don't have to move it away from a wall to open it up. Dated 1891 on some of the hardware. Measures 24" tall; 36" long and 20 1/2" front to back. Wood and metal totally refinished and coated with poly for easy cleaning. Has new wallpaper interior; tray was stripped of paper and left bare. I won't call it totally flat but close with just a slight curve. Variations in wood and metal color- it is 123 years old after all- makes it look more interesting anyway. For sale today is a beautifully restored MM Secor wall saver beveled lid trunk. This is a very rare style of trunk. I did not find any patent dates on this great MM Secor trunk and based on 40 plus years experience restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1880's' to 1900's which makes this neat old flat top over a 100 years old- a true antique. I have restored over 600 trunks in the last 40 plus years and I have restored ONE MM Secor wall saver trunk. This is a very rare trunk in excellent restored condition. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the metal bottom is solid. There are 50 plus polished pieces of original hardware. The center lock is polished and there is no key. The mechanical latches are polished, HD, fancy, tight and one works and the other does not work at all. The original tray is present and the interior has been removed. The metal/tin is in VGC. The lid stay is original to the trunk. There are 18 solid oak slats in a golden oak color. New black leather handles were installed with the original end caps. For sale today is a beautifully restored flat top lowboy wall saver trunk by John Duguid. I did not find any patent dates on the trunk and based on 40 plus years experience restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1890's' to 1920's which makes this neat old lowboy over a 100 years old- a true antique. I have restored over 600 trunks in the last 40 plus years and I can count on one hand the number of lowboy wall saver trunks I have had. This is a rare trunk in excellent restored condition. The manufacture's tag was removed during the restoration and has been mounted on a thin backing and will be packed inside the trunk when shipped. Up for consideration is a Rare Flat Top Clinton Wall Trunk. It has a non working lock. New leather handles were put on. All wood and hardware has been sealed with a satin finish. Antique Steamer Trunk, Extremely Rare Wall Design
Approximately 1891 American steamer trunk. 36"x24"x22" This is a coveted"wall trunk, made by famous trunk maker John B. Duguid in Toledo, Ohio. Duguid's trunks were well-known and popular at the turn of the century, until he sold his business in 1915 to Theisen Trunk Company of Detroit. The trunk has a special hinge design(1884 patent) that allows it to rest flush against a wall, without striking and damaging the surface when the top is raised to access contents. It is in authentic, antique condition, approximately 125 years old. It is very sturdy, and with mimimal care will last another century. Some prefer original condition, others refinish these by removing the water-resistant canvas, sanding down the pine boards and ash slats, and hand-rubbing the wood with several applications of tung oil. This can raise the ... morevalue, for some buyers, to $700 or more(just see postings on Ebay) It has the original castors and hardware, it smells fine(no funk or mold) and would be fine in a living room or bedroom. The leather handles have not survived, but are available on Ebay for restorers.

RARE 1880's Antique Clinton Wall Steamer trunk- All Original and Beautiful!
Very rare and in amazing condition. Clinton Wall trunks are a rare find and sought after by collectors. Look them up to check for more on eBay and for outside pricing. the trunk measures 28 inches in length. 20 inches high and 17 inches width. The special Clinton hinge was made so that the trunk can be opened without being pulled away from the wall like all the other trunks at the time. It is covered with pressed tin and is in ORIGINAL CONDITION! This alone makes it an unusual find. Typically these pieces are rusted. Filthy or worse, painted. The interior of the trunk is ODOR FREE and still has the original lining and lithograph. The lock appears to be functional and I'm trying to find a matching key for it. If I do, I'll send it with the trunk. The hardware is all intact and all four caster wheels are securely attached and functioning. ... moreIt has a cool patent date on the hinge of Feb. 14th. 1880 and has the name and tags of a long ago traveler both etched into the wood and attached to the sides(See pics of the top and side) that could be easily removed but I love how they look. I have cleaned the trunk up. Given it a nice tung oil coating to keep it in good condition as well as added new handmade leather trunk handles, as the old ones have long ago rotted away. The only new or replaced parts on this trunk are the handles and hand hammered nails I used to reattach the end caps on the new handles. It is without a doubt the nicest 100+ year old trunk I've ever seen. I'm setting a flat rate on shipping at $50. And will pay anything over that if it's within the continental US.
