We have cleaned this piece and restored its amazing original antique finish and patina. This vanity does have a replacement mirror, but all hardware, knobs and even the green upholstered footrest is all original. The mirror is removeable from the vanity base for a safer pickup or shipping. All drawers work nice and smooth, the center area is a working drawer as well. The wood case on this one is amazing. Still has what appears to be the original end nuts on the brackets that hold the mirror to the base. And check out the carved leaf details that are at the four corners of the mirror frame. The wood on the whole piece is immaculate. No chips cracks or splits on what shows on the outside. The bottom of the drawer is not split. Check out the bizarre doweling at the bottom and the dovetail only goes into the one side not the other. I found that to be very unique. This vanity measures 72 1/2 inches in height from the floor to the top of the cheval mirror at the center. The cheval mirror at the center measures(actual mirror portion) 54 3/4 inches in height by 17 1/4 inches wide. Each of the folding side mirrors measures 51 1/4 inches high by 9 inches wide. Height from the floor to the top of the lift up storage compartment below the cheval mirror is 6 inches. The center cheval mirror pivots front to back to adjust for viewing and nestled in the pierced carved sides are 2 small storage cabinets each with the original beveled mirrors on the front. The wood was faded from years of neglect in a bright storeroom as seen by the bracket shelf, but the mirror frame has been refinished with a clear natural stain to bring out the original color of the walnut wood. The photos show more of a reddish tint to the color, but it’s really a warm medium brown tone. It was very difficult to photograph in my office. Overall wood condition is very good, no splits, cracks, chunks missing, mold or rot. Although our price is reflective of these modifications. There is still value in owning this beautiful piece of history for generations to come. The marble section is white with a thin grey lines from the stone. It is not composit or manufactured stone. It is clean, no chips, no repairs. The mirror rests on the rear of the top shelf which is over a marble galleried backsplash and opposing side sections. The flat top surface is clean& smooth white marble, all marble is matching and original to the piece. The base cabinet has 2 pull out drawers over 2 swing out doors which open to a large interior with a center horizontal shelf. The base has 1/4 round fluted columns which match the mirror and a center vertical with carving and a burled oval decoration. The pulls are brass, the locks work, a key is provided. for auction is a wonderful federal heavily carved mahogany vanity built circa 1850. this is a great piece has wonderful claw feet with winged extensions all the way around. Antique Vintage Large Vanity Dressing Tabletop Shaving Wooden Swivel Mirror
Antique Victorian style wooden swivel mirror for a tabletop vanity or dresser. Mirror may have also been used for shaving. The frame and base are wood. I am not sure what type of wood it is. But if I had to guess I would say Mahogany, but please determine for yourself. Approximate measurements are 21 1/2" tall, 18 1/2" wide at the base and 6 1/2" deep(at the base) The mirror appears to be original and has that antique mirror patina with small black specking throughout. This is the perfect mirror if you are looking for something that shows its age, character and patina. Condition of the glass is good and it has a beveled edge all the way around(set in about 1" there is some chipping of the glass up underneath the top of the wood frame, difficult to see unless you really looking(please see last photo) Condition of the wood ... moreis good with some wear, patina and cracking to the finish in spots. This piece an amazing antique look that you can only get with with age and time. There may have been some water damage to the back of the piece at some point but it really only adds the character of the piece. Item is in all over good condition but not perfect. I am not sure of the wood but it is a very deep dark brown. The mirror has been replaced my me as I wanted to use this on my own antique dresser. The frame of the mirror. And stand are in very good estate condition. See images. I bought this from a dealer in the St Petersburg area of Florida. Their expert there told me this was from the late 1880s. I am sure he told me the wood but I have forgotten it now. He did mention the provenance was from the New England area. This measures- approx. 18" high x 15" long x 6-1/4" deep. It is flanked with stop fluted columns ending in circular shelves with gallery and gilding. The bottom part features a light brown leather hinged lift top compartment used for storage and decorated with brass nail heads. This part can be used as a a foot stool when sitting in front of the mirror. There are also four drawer cabinets on each ... moreside beneath a leather top that has a sliding shelf covered in green felt and decorated in gold tooling. The whole vanity mirror is decorated with incised gilding and raised on four strong ball feet. This is an oversized elaborate mirror which can be used as a vanity. In a music r oom.
