The original bottom was coming loose from tray, and was cracked, so to make this trunk as fully functional as possible I thought it best to do it right! The inside of the trunk has been stripped clear of the inside paper. This is great b/c it gets rid of all old smells many old trunks hold it also makes the trunk free of many allergens the trunk has been left natural. Four gold painted pronged metal retainers approx. 3 1/2" by 1 1/4" Sixteen split tacks for nailing the retainers(Eight 1" split tacks for the inside and eight 3/4" split tacks for the outside) Once the retainers are nailed in place you have your movable handle. Two black leather straps cut from cowhide 1 1/4" by 3/16" thick eight inches long. Four brass plated metal strap ends painted black one side. Split head brass tacks-eight 1" long to nail the leather to the trunk. Tacks are to be placed two per end under the position of the metal strap ends in a verticle position for best attachment. Form the permanent handle loop to suit before completing the nailing. Split head tacks 3/4" are to fasten the strap ends. It measures 34 inches long by 18 inches front to back and about 23 inches tall. This is a rare and stylish piece. It also has a pad that sets in the bottom. Chest, military campaign chest or possibly a set of drawers at some stage. Each handle is as shown and has a recessed part to put your fingers in to grip round the central carry bar. Both are still fine for use today and there may be someone out there restoring a piece of furniture that requires two handles. They possibly date to the 19 th century. Condition: I am selling these basically as you see them in the photos. Both handles have age tarnishing and little scores/ marks to the brass ... morefrom age/ use. Some remnants of old paint to the surface can also be seen. But they both would polish up well. The rounded/ curved brass part to the back of each has some light dings; these could be just left as they are or possibly tapped back out if required. The dings to not affect the use of the handles. Each has four screws holes to the corners for fitting. Brass metal to the back is age tarnished. Each handle measures approx 5 ½” wide. 3 3/8” deep and would fit into a recessed area approx 1” deep. Thickness is 1/4" Four brass plated metal strap ends. 1" long split head brass tacks to nail the leather to the trunk. Tacks are to be placed two per end under the position of the metal strap ends in a verticle position for best attachment. Form the permanent handle loop to suit before completing the nailing. Split head tacks 3/4" are to fasten the metal strap ends. The handles measure approx 10 1/2" metal end to metal end but can be shortened by cutting a bit off of the leather strap if required to fit. free postage

We are selling an antique pine trunk/ chest in its original condition.This trunk dates to about 1870s and still in good condition.There are five large dovetail joints on all corners. The cast iron handles are in very good condition. The end board on one side is a solid 13" wide plank. The pine boards are all old growth wood. The bottom planks have a few cracks in them as the pictures show. There are normal age wear nicks and bumps and dings. The size is 34" long. 16 1/2" wide and 19 1/2" tall. The lock is gone. I purchased these metal parts in a box lot labeled'Steamer Trunk Hdw. at an Estate sale in the Pennsylvania Dutch area of Pa. And I know little about these things. There are corners, locks, hinges, handles, and a lot of items that I have no idea what they are. 3 of these parts have Patent dates on them. The one that looks like a handgun has"Pat.Oct 23'77" and 2 locks( have"Jul.9' 77" on them. Winning bidder pays shipping.

1830s Ithaca Newspaper Lined Wooden Trunk Chest Rounded Top 2 Handles Latch Mono Antique wooden trunk. Rounded top. Monogrammed"E H" on the top with brass tacks. Metal handle on each side. Metal latch. Keyhole. But no key is included. Poor condition. One hinge on the back is broken. And only half of it remains. Much of the leather strapping and decoration has disintegrated and become lost. Primitive nail construction. Cracks in the wood, especially the top. The newspaper the trunk is lined with it dated 1830. Ithaca. Outer dimensions: 24" long. But the handles protrude about 5/8" on each side- 13.5" wide- 10.25" tall at front& rear. With lid closed- 11.5" tall in the middle. With the lid closed- 8" tall to top edge of open box- Lid 2" tall front& rear. 3" tall at crown Inner dimensions: ... more22.75" long- 12-1/8" wide- 6.75" deep- Lid 1.75" deep at front& rear edges. 2.75" deep at crown.
