In my ... moreopinion. I am selling the matching gentleman's dresser, or highboy, separately. Both pieces have been refinished, but missing veneer work was not done, so, as you can see in pics 4& 8 there is slight edge veneer loss at the front side corners. In pic 5 you can barely see that the veneer has been re-glued. There are a few nicks here and there, and there are hardware circles around a couple of the drawer pulls, where the handles have been rotated and made a circle in the wood around. The hardware, as well as the design, makes this piece much more eye catching, with steel pulls and horizontal rosewood tips on each pull. This piece measures 54" x 32" x 18" deep. There are 6 drawers. Shipping will be done via freight or local pick up. If you live near Orlando(32804)I can deliver for free. If you live outside of Orlando please message me for a fuel charge. The cane on the front of the door panels and the tops of the mirrors are in excellent condition. The top of the credenza is gorgeous barely showing any signs of use except for some very light mild surface scratches. There are some scuffs and dings mostly to the legs which is expected from age and use. There are a few on the drawers where you pull to open as well but nothing major. The last picture shows where a small piece of the veneer in the front right corner has chipped. It can easily be fixed or left as is. We have all of the brackets that hold on both of the mirrors. Overall this piece is stunning with some inlay on the top of the credenza as well. It is very heavy and sturdy. Please keep in mind all of my items are vintage and will show appropriate wear for its age. I will do my best to picture and mention any flaws I notice. However. Condition can be different for each person. So please make sure to look at all pictures as they are part of the description and ask questions prior to bidding. We are pleased to offer this beautiful antique mahogany dresser with matching mirror. The maker of this piece is unknown and we believe this dates to the late 1800's- early 1900's. The dresser stands approximately 36.5" high. The width is 21 5/8" and the length is 46" The mirror is made from solid mahogany and has a beautiful broken arch pediment at the top with an applied carved design in the center. It measures 35.5" high to the top of the pediment. The width is 24 7/8" across the ached top and th emain body is 23.75" wide. Made from solid mahogany the dresser has a classic Chippendale style design with applied carved moldings on the bracket feet and reeded columns on the front. The dresser has four drawers with a divider in the top drawer. The drawers are all dove tail jointed and also retain the original ... morebrass pulls. The dresser appears to have had an early refinish job done on it. There are age and use appropriate scratches and dings on the top and feet. As well as a small white spot on the top. This"Charles Eastlake" style lady's dresser has been in our family for more than 140 years. It belonged to my great grandmother. A gift from her new husband on their wedding day in the early 1870s. She was 15; he, 31. The dresser is made from deep red cherry or mahogany wood. The piece is in wonderful condition except for a few minor flaws(shown) For five generations of women, it has never been used for anything but its original purpose, a lady's vanity above and three-drawer clothes chest below. A 7 3/4 x 16 1/4 inch marble insert is centered on the top front surface. In addition to three large drawers below. It has jewelry or glove drawers on each side of the top and two small knick-knack shelves on either side of the mirror. The total height from the original porcelain casters to the rounded finial on top is 75 inches. ... moreThe maximum depth from front to back is 18 1/2 inches and the width is 35 1/4 inches. The mirror is on a swivel. Allowing it to be adjusted back and forth vertically. The mirror dimensions are 11 1/4 x 19 inches and the unbeveled glass is too clear to be original. The three drawers below have interior dimensions of 29 inches wide, 13 1/2 deep. The front of each lower drawer has a burled inset(probably faux) typical of Eastlake furniture. The glove and jewelry drawers are 6 1/2 inches wide, 13 1/2 inches deep. All 8 knobs are original. This dresser was manufactured in an American factory or shop. Probably in the Midwest, following design concepts of English architect and designer Charles Eastlake. His ideas were disseminated in his book Hints on Household Taste in Furniture. Upholstery and other Details, first published in England in 1868. And then in United States in 1872. Eastlake pieces, though contemporary with Victorian furniture, 1870-1890, are actually anti-Victorian. He called for angular, notched and carved pieces, deliberately opposed to the curved shapesof French Baroque Revival Styles prevalent in the Victorian era. Hi. And thanks for looking! This listing is for a real antique empire style dresser. This is a good sized piece, 47 inches high, 42.5 wide, and 23 deep. There is three drawers on the bottom and two up top, all with hand cut dovetails. I think the bottoms of the drawers as well as other parts are all one piece of wood with no seams. The front has beautiful flame mahogany veneer which is in fairly good shape except on the top drawers, which have slight curve. Along each side of the front are greek colums with hand carved details top and bottom. The top of the dresser is two boards that have been painted to look like wood grain. There is a gap in between them, due to age I suppose. All the drawer pulls are clear glass, I don't think they are original, but they are old, and some don't match exactly. Antique Empire Style Buffet Dresser Storage
This was the piece that I had the most fun with. I used 16- SIXTEEN- different Annie Sloan chalk paint colors to get this effect. Plus Crackle Tex. Clear and dark wax. So. The story behind this piece is. Well, firstly it's massive. It is the great beast of all furniture. 60"x 26 1/2" x 42" and solid. It looks like wood, but I think it's really granite. It is that heavy. Two pull out drawers on top with ceramic Anthropologie knobs, one massive pull out drawer underneath, and two doors opening to full storage. I bought this from a really cool woman in Portland. You know the kind- just naturally hip. With the groove going on. She had been given it by a friend(I bet who was even cooler! when the friend moved to an Ashram in Portland. Apparently, each of the rooms had a buffet like this! Gawd, that would make me want to ... moredo yoga! It's kinda ironic because the buffet. As big as it is, was the natural dark wood stain. This is a very beautiful old piece and does not appear to have had any glue used when made. Some of the joints are lose. As I have read that it has more value if left alone. I have not made any repairs. This is Shaker style- but as I believe, it was made in the midwest so it cannot be called pure Shaker. This piece was passed along through families and was never in an antique shop or sold. It has a beautiful, rich deep color. There are a few water marks on the top and one of the knobs is damaged, but I have seen replacement knobs for shaker furniture. The back and part of the drawers were made of rough scrap like wood.

The drawers of this furniture are joined pin and dovetail. Pin and Cove Dove tail: This is the tale-tell sign of the date of this piece of furniture. The drawers of this piece are joined with a pin and cove dovetail. This joining technique was the very first dovetail for factory manufactured Eastlake furniture. It only lasted 10 years and one can be quite sure that the date of a pin and cove joined Eastlake drawer is between 1890 and 1900. Charles Locke Eastlake was a British architect and furniture designer. He did not make any furniture; his designs were produced by professional cabinet makers. The style of furniture named after him.
