It is fully functional and very sturdy! I noticed that one of the screws is missing from the top portion of the writing desk so the top is a tiny bit loose with a slight wiggle. There are some pen marks and paint marks on the desk- you know how kids are! There is a 4 in split in the wood on the top writing desk. There are scuffs and scratches from use/storage. The cast iron legs have a neat Victorian Scroll design and are marked Buffalo New York and with the number 3 and three patent dates from 1881. 1890 and 1897. The piece oozes nostalgia with wood that has a great. Rich patina. Among the carved names are"Joyce" and"Jack" and other pictures. Including something that looks like a flower. The desk has a shelf beneath the desktop. The desktop itself has a well for pencils and a hole for an ink well. The piece was a recent purchase from an estate sale near Harrisburg. Pa. It is sturdy in all respects with a seat that folds up smoothly. My uncle was a great gatherer of items. Many of which came from stoves. I have started going through these items and will be posting some. There is a lot of great rust in this pile! These are a pair of fancy design cast iron bases for a school house desk. They are embossed with the maker AM Andrews Co Chicago, also a patent no. of 641061, I am not exactly sure how this was set up, but there is a piece on each that has a bolt and folds over, creating an"L" for the seat portion to sit on, at the top portion there are small notches where, I believe the top hooked in. These are very nice and with some creativity could be made into a number of very cool things. They measure 29" across and are 29.5" tall, the base part(feet) 19" from foot to foot. Turn of the Century Cast Iron School Desk - Minneapolis O & SF, Co - Great Shape
I came across this beautiful vintage school desk at a local auction and couldn't pass it up. I have seen similar designed desks sell on ebay but believe this one to be rarer because it has these cast iron baskets where the seat fold into. This contrasts to many of the ones selling on ebay that have the U shaped cut out to accept the seat. This desk was manufactured by the Minneapols Office and School Furniture Co. According to my research. The company was in business from 1895 until 1920. Also, this desk is much smaller than most other turn of the century shcoll desks up for sale. Most desks measure 28" tall whereas this desk must have been for kindergarten or first grade because it only measures 22" tall. I have included many measurments below for your reference. Antique Child's School Desk Maple & Cast Iron Ink Hole Pencil Slot Buffalo, NY
This is a very nice antique maple child's school desk with cast iron legs. It was probably made in the late 1800's and features an ink well and pencil slot on top. The cast iron has very nice scroll work and is marked A.H. Andrews Buffalo. New York. The bench has alternating colored slats giving it a very attractive look. The cast iron had been painted white at some point. It is in excellent condition given it's age. However, there are two separate cracks on the top, not including two by the inkwell. One measures approximately 5 1/2" and the other measures approximately 2 1/2" They look like they have been there for some time. The smaller one is along the seam. The overall measurements are approximately 24" high; 19" deep; 18 1/2" high. This is being sold"As Is. The desk can also be used to display ... moretoys. The patent is on the hinge cast iron dated Feb 1. 81 and on the cast iron for the desk the patent date is Jan 18, 76. It has the number 1 stamped in the cast iron. Has an ink well. There is a part missing that holds the desk up, otherwise in wonderful antique condition. The desk measures 24" wide x 31 1/4" tall x 20 1/2" depth with desk down x 12" deep on desk. Stored in a smoke free home.

Antique Child School Desk Oak Cast Iron Adjustable Tilt Top Book Drawer Rack
As found at estate sale from garage. Dust and all. 23" tall desk top, back of seat is 26 1/2" tall. Desk top is 22" x 15. 26" overall length. Desk tilts and entire top goes up and down to adjust as child grows, it has a 3" up and down play by loosening 2 round knobs on side. The top also slants at an angle and is adjustable. I could not find a makers name on it. Except the ink well is made by Henry Wilkes Bakelite, it has a glass well. This desk will last a lifetime and will be passed down from generation to generation. It's a great investment. Picture your children sitting in it for pictures every year to see them growing up.

Here I have what I believe to be an original school desk. It is in excellent condition. The legs and mechanism are cast iron. And cast"5 R" on the right light and"5L" on the left leg. The set arms are cast"Chicago" The wood is in excellent condition, and has minimal imperfections. You can even see the original saw marks on the underside of the desk as show in the photo! Antique Heywood Wakefield Eclipse Industrial Machine Age School Desk with Cast Iron Legs The adjustable legs are marked Eclipse H W as shown. They are easily removable. The desk measures 21" wide x 13" deep x 23-29" high as you can adjust the height. The feet have two screw holes per foot(two feet per leg) and four mounting holes at the top. The wooden desk top is 6" high. The desk top has an ink well hole(no ink well) and a cubby under the top. The wood has darkened with age-well over a century. I believe, since Heywood-Wakefield formed by the merger of Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company in 1897. The wood shows its age and great character with lots of marks. Paint, and ink splatter from use over the years.The iron has oxidized some, especially toward the bottom. I don't see any cracks, breaks, repairs, or missing ... morepieces. It has some splitting of the wood inside the cubby and outside on the bottom corner as a result of the legs being screwed in. Please see the last picture. To reduce shipping costs we will remove the legs from the wooden top.

This desk and chair set needs restoration. Both the desk and the chair indicate they are adjustable on cast iron bases. The desk is suppose to adjusts and the seat can adjust as well- though this old antique school desk and chair does need refurbishing. The desk has slates of loose wood on top and bottom, and one leg of desk is not affixed to bottom. It's possible that one leg on desk will be removed for shipping. Though this desk set has been in storage for many year. The bent wood chair is in solid condition- Both desk and chair do show age with scratches, scuffs, nicks and minor dings and digs.
