Being offered for sale is this wonderful American Classic Empire Flame Mahogany Petticoat Pier Table circa 1840. This fine 19th century table measures 36 1/2 in height. 35 1/2 inches wide, 16 1/4 inches in depth(front to back on the top) and weighs approximately 65 pounds. We believe this table to have it’s original finish and has all of the time-worn character that one would expect from of pieces from this era. The lovely large solid mahogany table top provides beautiful display possibilities and rests on a conforming serpentine flamed mahogany apron.A scalloped flame mahogany valance is found beneath the apron just above the original mirror. Substantial flame mahogany scrolled legs with applied roundels at the base connect the lovely large table top to the stepped flame mahogany base which rests on scroll carved legs with the original casters ... moreintact on all four feet. Additional display opportunity is found on the square plateau located in front of the original mirror just above the elegant stepped base. This 19th century pier/petticoat table does have its original mirror which shows some silver loss spots and cloudiness as commonly seen in mirrors from this period. The top surface does show wear to the finish and surface marks and scratches from years of use. The base sides do have some minor veneer chipping nothing major in my opinion but just thought I would mention it. These 19th century tables were referred to as Petticoat Tables because the ladies would use the mirror to check the hem of their dresses to make sure that their petticoats were not being exposed. The classical lines of this table make it a piece that is easily incorporated into any decor and would be a wonderful foyer/ hall table. rare and exceptional antique meeks mahogany pier table all original
for sale is an exceptional and rare antique meeks pier table. it was made circa 1840. everything is original as far as i can tell and it is in excellent antique condition with no issues to report. it has great form and beauty and is constructed of the finest mahogany with exception grain. note the early hand cut dovetails that are used in the joints of this table. other than cleaning it i have done nothing else to it. the mirror shows some cloudy spots and is overall smokey. This of course is a function of 170 years of age. i hope the pictures show at least a portion of the beauty of this piece and are part of the description. it is a large one, being 41 inches wide at the widest point at the outside of the top scrolls. it is 38.5 inches tall and 18.5 inches deep at the deepest part. the marble shows some spots and discolor as a function ... moreof age. i expect it could be cleaned and most of these minor blemishes would go away, but they do not detract from the beauty of the piece as i think these features merely add patina to an antique. i would leave the mirror as is as well, but it could be resilvered or backed at a minimal expense. you will find a fair supply of pier tables, but very few by meeks. this piece is assigned to meeks by a number of experts in this era of antiques. i would be happy to give them as references should anyone have any doubt. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at the buyer's expense. good luck.

The only change in two hundred years being the replaced marble top and removal of the mirrored back. It retains a wonderful early mellowed surface, the match booked mahogany veneers now a warm cognac hue from years in the sun. The drawer and columns retain their original gilt bronze embellishments and hardware, these of utmost quality and precision- note the very fine chasing and filing of details and quality of the surfaces. This very fine French Empire Marble Top Pier Table circulates from the second quarter of the 19th Century, probably just post Napoleon c. 1830. Exquisitely embellished, the table boasts a large selection of entirely original and exceptionally well cast gilt bronze mounts. The drawer features a central mask with outward flowing anthemion flanked by pairs of winged griffins with no pull hardware- instead, the drawer is opened with carved handhold wells beneath the frame. The drawer is hand dovetailed along the front and back. The curled tapering pillars are bold without entirely dominating the form. These with intricate complimenting mounts along the knee and ankle following ... morein the spirit of the anthemion introduced with the drawer. They terminate in some of the most handsomely carved Lion paws, these very finely shaped with red oxide pigment beneath gilding with wear revealing either walnut or beech secondary woods beneath many layers of old wax.
