Exquisite Louis XV Marquetry Side Table
Unusual. Exquisite Louis XV-style marquetry side table featuring a beautiful design of contrasting woods on its top, sides and two collapsible leaves. Furthermore, it offers on large, locking drawer(no key) another hidden small drawer and cabriole legs with understated carving. It is made primarily of mahogany, with mahogany and other wood(that I am unable to identify) marquetry. The table most likely dates from the 19th century and is in very good condition. The marquetry has a crack across the top center piece. But it isn't lifting nor is it unsightly; just looks old, as it is! Also the drawer has one small chip on its corner. I've priced the piece accordingly. The piece measures 27 1/2" tall by 19 1/2" deep. When the leaves are down. It measures 22" wide; when they are up, it's 36 1/2" wide. The inside measurements ... moreof the large drawer is 14 5/8" wide by 14 7/8" long by 2 5/8" deep. The small drawer, somewhat hidden beneath the large is tapered and measures at its longest points 6 1/2" wide by 11/1/2" long by 3 1/4" deep. 19th C. Antique Dutch Rare Porcelain Marquetry Inlaid Tilt-top Table Provenance
Here we have an unique cica 1860s Antique side table from the Netherlands. I am a fairly knowledgeable collector that owns a diverse collection of American and European pieces from the 1710s up to the 1860s. I have never seen or read about any such piece of furniture as this one. The most unique and striking feature is the porcelain mounted ontop of the table. I have some knowledge in antique Chinese and European porcelains: Qing. Sevres and 19th C. painted porcelains. I have never come across one similar to this porcelain. It gives me a Middle Eastern feel, but a porcelain expert told he was not sure either and that"it could be French. The top is profusely and systematically inlaid with Burl Walnut. Ebony, Rose and Mahogany. The ormolu mounts are all present, except the tassels and small gauge chains that were once daggling on the bottom ... moreside edges of the frieze. sides of top) These could be replaced, if desired. The measurements are: Top 15 1/2" square and height of 30" and legs splay out 16 1/2" Condition wise. The standard(shaft) has been touched up by the, due to paint losses. The top has been screwed secure so the top no longer tilts, which is common in older stands. This was due to the broken period hinge. These repairs can easily be reversed. The lock mechanism is period and orginal. The ormulu mounts are original and retain most of its gilding, but tarnished. There is also a missing small mount on one of the knees on the leg. I like to look at the tool marks on the underside of the legs. These are the only visible tool marks. Every other tool mark has been planned away. Which are signs of craftmanship and quality. The straight up-and-down mechanical saw marks on the legs are consistent with saw technology during the third-quarter of the 19th century. Beautiful Biedermeier/ Empire Table. A lovely piece of furniture. It exudes quality it is of the empire style and would date from around 1845. The table top has a marquetry design in the style of Gallee. There is slight lifting to a few pieces of veneer as can be seen in the pictures but they are secure and I am loathed to restore the table in this condition as it(in my opinion) still sound. The overall condition is good there are a couple of small nicks to one of the uprights but its all age related ware so I will let the pictures do the talking. The main wood is Mahogany. The Lion paw feet are made of Brass and the marquetry and banding really draws the eye to the piece. IT DOES NOT GET MUCH BETTER.a Victorian chess gaming table with two drawers.the top drawer has closed and open compartments. The middle front serpentine shaped compartment unfolds to show a sewing pin cushion. As well as two sliding compartments, one on each side. A second drawer holds the chess pieces but this would also be. And appears to have been used as a nice sewing cabinet. Great well done marquetry and clean cut design show work by a superior cabinet maker. Probably a custom request. The chess pawns are all hand carved and have different expressions. My favorite detail, but all are fabulous. They came with the table when I bought it but I think they are early 1900s additions. The creative genius that is displayed in this beautiful table is evident the moment you begin to study the details, artistry, thought and talent that went into this marvelous marquetry end table. The upper tier displays the scripted Galle' signature set into place as part of the foliage pattern, found towards the lower right side of the scalloped edging. The legs are gently splayed and sturdy. This lovely table has been part of my living room decor for more than 50 years. Several items have been ... moredisplayed on this table for all of those years, as the photos herein illustrate. It is still a strong and sturdily constructed table. The dimensions of this artwork are: 29" in height. The top tier is 27" across by 20" in depth; the bottom tier is 20" across by 12 1/2" in depth. On the top tier we see a natural setting of flowering plants in a quiet glen. Many beautiful woods are used to interpret these living plants. The woodsy touches are brought into play with the use of burls and knots from different tree sources. The graceful softness of growing flowers is ingeniously created with the use of wood veneers cut to fill a designated space in a plan, as if an artist was painting the scene with a brush. The lower tier is similarly decorated with flowers.This table is a gem in quality and condition. There is one minor problem, which can be easily corrected. Towards the back, right side of the upper tier, there is a slither of satinwood trim missing from the apron, which can be easily matched and attached where the piece is missing.This is a truly marvelous sample of ART NOUVEAU beauty. INCREDIBLE. OLD FRENCH TABLE! We are pleased to offer this lovely, somewhat rare, antique French Marquetry, Rosewood and Mahogany inlay table. This is a true demilune table with both the front and back profiles curved. The table top features a large, center inlay medallion of flowers and acanthus leaves with a smaller floral accent on each end. The top features a rosewood, with a gorgeous grain, inset in the mahogany. The top is skirted around the entire perimeter. The skirted section features detailed floral carvings on both the front and back profiled(the concave side as well as the convex side) The cabriole legs have carved acanthus accents at the mid sections as well as the feet. This is a striking, beautiful table! The table dates to around 1900. It is in very good antique condition. The top is inlaid with different kinds of wood, mainly burl walnut as well as walnut, some lighter woods, and some darker woods. The center motif are a family of Chamoix standing on an alp. There are several other vignettes also depicting a chamois in different settings. Chamoix are the alpine goats of the region. The table is also inlaid with carved Edelweiss flowers and alpenroses. Italian marquetry table, 1840's, Fair condition, 44" x 30" X 29.5"
The table has been in my father's family since imported in the 1840's. My great-great grandfather was an importer of Italian household goods in early 19th century(died in Rome 1865 from typhus) The table is in fair condition. The top is in better condition than the photo shows. It has been in use since new. It was in our house growing up. And in my great grandmothers house in NY before that. I have no room for it and have no children who are interested in it. Must be picked up. I wouldn't trust a shipper with it.

It's mind boggling when you think of the amount of work that goes into making something like this- especially the marquetry work where the individual designs have to be cut from softer wood and then embedded into the main wood of the structure. The expo was a tremendous popular success, attracting over six million visitors during the run of the expo in 1862. The sheet measures 11.5 x 16.5 inches in size. And is blank on the reverse side. Mahogany & French Marquetry Inlaid Occasional Center Writing Desk Library Table
I wish I could take pictures that do a little bit better job of showing the color and minute detail in the inlay work performed on this piece. So. Try to use your imagination. The table is nicer then the pictures reflect. To be sure as to rather or not this piece is from France or American made I cant be positive. However, I have been told it is French and over 100 years old. For sure this is the best inlay work I can remember seeing including the mother of pearl laid in place throughout the piece. Dimensions for this table are 38 inches length, 26 inches width, 29.5 inches height. It will add to any home or office decor.

LOVELY FRENCH COUNTRY. PROVINCIAL TEA TABLE CIRCA 1880'S THIS TEA TABLE WAS A LUCKY FIND AT A LOCAL CALIFORNIA MARKET. THE REMOVABLE GLASS TOP CAUGHT MY ATTENTION. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A POSTCARD TABLE SIMILAR TO THE COLORFUL TABLE I LOVED AT MY GRANDMOTHER'S HOUSE AS A LITTLE GIRL. I HAD TO REMOVE SOME VIOLIN CASES HIDING ITS TRUE IDENTITY AND WAS SURPRISED TO SEE THAT IT WAS ACTUALLY A FRENCH COUNTRY PROVINCIAL TEA TABLE WITH MARQUETRY. I BROUGHT IT HOME AND LOVINGLY CLEANED IT WITH MURPHY'S OIL SOAP AND THEN A LIGHT CONDITIONING WITH TUNGSTEN OIL TO RECAPTURE ITS ORIGINAL LUSTER AND PATINA. TO COME ACROSS THIS TYPE OF TABLE IN ITS ORIGINAL STATE AND IN SUCH GOOD SHAPE IS A RARE FIND AND A GOOD DAY AT THE OFFICE! DETAILS AND DIMENSIONS. A PRETTY MARQUETRY FLOWER DESIGN IN QUARTER PANELS IS THE CENTERPIECE. THE FLOWERS HAVE ... moreA VERY EARLY ART NOUVEAU DESIGN WHICH FLOWS IN A SIMPLE LINE THIS DELICATE WOODWORK IS PROTECTED BY THE ORIGINAL FRAMED GLASS TOP WHICH CAN BE REMOVED. THE FRAME HAS A SLIGHTLY SCALLOPED EDGING WHICH IS COMPLIMENTRY TO THE DESIGN. THE OUTSIDE MEASUREMENTS OF THE FRAME ARE 18 INCHES BY 32.5 INCHES THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME MEASURES 14.5 INCHES BY 28.5 INCHES WHICH IS ALSO THE MEASUREMENT OF THE GLASS. HEIGHT INCLUDING THE TABLE TOP IS 17& 1/2 INCHES RECTANGULAR WITH A HAND CARVED WREATH DESIGN ON THE APRON. THE APRON MEASURES 29 INCHES ACROSS IN LENGTH ON THE FRONT AND BACK SIDE. IT IS 15.5 INCHES ACROSS IN LENGTH ON EACH SIDE. ITS WIDTH IS 3 INCHES AT ITS THICKEST POINT IN THE DESIGN. THE CABRIOLET LEGS ARE ALSO DEEPLY CARVED WITH A LEAF DESIGN. THEY TAPER DOWN TO PADDED FEET. THE WOOD IS WALNUT. THE COLOR IS A RICH& WARM MEDIUM BROWN WITH A HINT OF BLACK. THE MARQUETRY IS A PRETTY HONEY VENEER. THE TABLE AND THE TRAY TOP WITH GLASS WEIGH APPROXIMATELY 12 LBS THE OVERALL CONDITION IS VERY GOOD. ONLY THE EDGES OF THE VENEER ARE SHOWING THEIR AGE. THE WOOD ALONG THE EDGES IS TURNING DARK.
