This is an elegant federal mahogany game table circa 1880. This is an example of less is best with the simple elegant grace of the minimal but effective corner carvings. Slender but sutible pedestal, and classic carved paw feet. The table has an beautiful crotched mahogany veneer apron on three sides. The back is not veneered. The table is a good size that measures 35 3/4" wide, 17 3/8" deep, and 28 5/8" tall when closed. When open the top is 34 1/4" x 35 3/4" There is an age appropriate split in the base of the table but the base is a 2 3/4" solid piece of wood and the crack is only a surface crack. We have exhaustively researched this table for its attribution. With reservations. And about to pin it down to the workshop of Salem, Massachusetts' Nathaniel Appleton, we found several photographs in the Boston MFA's furniture collection of the works of an unknown Boston furniture maker. He made a very small known amount of furniture with this radiating spiral carved base component which is a virtual fingerprint in this case. This over the top game table has four monopause compounded legs with paw on paw carved feet. The bases' platform has large carved cabachons surrounding its base(with the aforementioned carvings) leading ... moreup to the column with a magnificant large carved budding bellflower. The column, base platform and legs are some of the most outrageous carvings we have ever seen on an early 19th century Massachusetts classical movement piece. They are so noteworthy& unique that we have spent numerous hours researching this piece. The game table's top has a fine figured mahogany apron with a carved center panel. The top lid and open surface of the table is surrounded by a thick banded inlay and all of its mahogany on its top is highly figured by a deep rich grain. The table has had a professional restoration and French polishing approximately 30 years ago. There was some shrinkage seasoning in the banded inlay. This was addressed during the restoration. This is a good quality mahogany game table that I think is federal but it may be sheraton or even empire. I'm putting the age circa 1880 but it may be circa 1920. It is in that range age wise. It will go with a variety of styles. The table is very attractive with wonderful turned tapered carved legs front and back. The table is a good size. Closed the table measures 37" wide. 18 1/2" deep, and 29" tall. The legs are 25" from the floor to the table apron. Opened the table top is 37" x 37" The table is a little too large to ship via UPS so shipping will have to be with a frieght cost to the buyer. Local pick up is always welcomed. federal 1800's inlaid mahogany hepplewhite card or game table original finish
for auction is a great federal inlaid mahogany hepplewhite game or card table. it was made circa 1800. i think the inlaid wood is primarily satin wood but may be some others as well. the inlaid is in the serpentine front. In the edge of the top and down the legs. none is missing as far as i can ascertain. the finish is original and shows a lot of crazing and cracking and some depressions, none of which are an issue, but if you are looking for the perfect finish, this one does not have it. actually the pictures don't show the finish well, it just looks kinda hazy, but anyway, it is old varnish and shows some minor loss in a few places, but again it is not enough for pictures to pick up. it has bronze or brass collars at the feet which are in good shape and the rivets are tight. this is the best hepplewhite table on the internet, but not ... morepriced anywhere close to those others. they start at like 8500 and go up. i have a federal and period furniture book and the hepplewhite card tables are prized in the book from 15,000 up to 541,000. in fact, my table is a dead ringer for the 541,000 dollar table. i don't want that much for mine, maybe half, or maybe 1 percent would be great. this table has hepplewhite inventory nos. on the bottom of the skirt which read 1579 A and i think 21. it also has written on the bottom of the table english mahogany. the structure and function of this piece is mint condition and perfect the finish is smooth and i just cleaned it with liquid gold, a furniture polish. there are two very tiny pieces of wood missing, about the size of a small finger nail clipping, if you can see them, they are in picture 2 and 4, but they are so small i don't think they can be seen. the right hind leg is a swing leg and supports the other half of the top when opened up, it works to perfection. the table is square, plumb, and level. it is 36 inches wide,36 inches deep when opened up or 17.75 inches deep when not in use. it is 30 inches tall. it has been in my aunt's deceased husbands family since i

without a doubt this is one of the finest thomas day tables i have ever owned. i have had a few of them and always sold them for a decent price. i have had a couple of swivel top game tables go for better than 3000.00 and just recently sold a tilt top day table for around 1800 i believe it was. A beautiful inlaid solid mahogany card or game table in the Baltimore serpentine style. The marquetry is elaborately executed with sand shaded shells. Bellflowers, twist, and string inlay. I believe this to be a centennial piece made in the nineteenth century. It is in remarkably good condition. With highly figured grain showing some natural color variation of the top. The finish is original with only the closed top surface enhanced. With a small surface sliver touch up 3/8 inch back from the top center front. It can only be detected on very close inspection. ANTIQUE 19TH C FLAME MAHOGANY GAME TABLE SINGLE PEDESTAL 34" X 33.5" X 29.75" T
Here is a really terrific 19th century mahogany single pedestal empire style game table. It has absolutely gorgeous flame mahogany veneers on it's side panels all the way around and the lovely large pedestal is supported on four feet. Each of which has casters, though these appear to be replacements for the originals. This table is almost square, measuring 34 inches wide and 33 1/2 inches deep, front to back and stands 29 3/4 inches tall on it's current casters. There are some stains on the table top as described in detail above and shown in my pictures but I personally don't feel old character marks like these don't detract from it's presentation and would easily be covered by a table cloth or runner if the new owner preferred. There are a few minor nicks and small scratches to the finish elsewhere as you would expect ... moreeven with very respectful use over time but the gorgeous veneers around the sides. The pedestal and base in general all appears to be in intact and particularly nice condition for a piece it's age. For sale is a beautiful antique burl mahogany flip top game/card table. It measures 30 1/4"H x 35 1/4"L x 19"D when closed. And 29 1/4"H x 35 1/4" x 38 1/2" when opened. Condition: Structurally sound. The side pieces on the table top were crudely reattached at one point. The veneer when closed has one small chip in the back right corner. One slot screw is missing on the hinge. The casters have some rust but all are fully functional. The top has two splinters on each side where they meet by the hinges. Lastly. The table dates to the late 19th century or very early 20th century. It is a versatile table as it is a demilune that folds out to a round table. The table was designed to be used as a gaming(card) or tea table when expanded. The table is mahogany and features a beautiful striped mahogany on the table top. The top and apron are trimmed with brass. The table has 5 stationary legs when in demilune form. There are two legs that fold and lock into place under the table(see photo 6) When unfolded, the table has 7 legs. The five stationary legs have brass feet, the folding legs do not. The table is easy to fold/unfold and has a locking mechanism to hold it in place when it is unfolded. The table features two stickers, still attached, that read"Camard-Dimer, Made in France" There are hand written numbers(in ink) of 6486. This is either the model number of the table or it could be the import number. This is a beautiful table with elegant and sleek lines. It is in very good condition and it operates perfectly. There are a few minor scuffs to the finish. There is one area on the table top that appears to be a moisture stain. It is present only when the top is expanded. In the demilune position, it is not visible. The front leg sits slightly off center and can be adjusted. Antique American Empire Large Game Table Harp Base Mahogany (?) Swivel Top
PLEASE NOTE: This is available as local pickup only(in Warwick. NY) I do not have the experience to ship such an item as this. Presenting a gorgeous. Large, 19th century American Empire swivel top game table on a lyre(or harp) base, in lovely antique condition. The table is solid and sturdy. I believe the wood is mahogany, and the finish to be original. The table top is hinged so that it can be lifted, folded back and swiveled to make a full-square table, albeit with scalloped edges. Another way these tables are displayed is with the the top opened 90 degrees and the back half up against the wall; alternatively, the table can of course be left closed, also against the wall. When opened. It shows its true Empire period beauty, with a lovely sheen. The finish does show age but it is an antique and the patina could be respected as such. When ... moreclosed. It could be argued that the part of the top that then shows could be refinished, although there are no cracks or gouges, just the age of its finish showing, more so than the fully opened top. It seems this table was generally displayed with the top closed, so the wood on the inside(which, when opened, would be the topside) has been protected. The table appears to be all original and with only the small imperfections to be expected in almost any genuine antique furniture. The most egregious flaw is the crack at the bottom of the harp base(see photo) The table measures: 28-1/2" high 37" to 37-1/2" wide(considering scallop edge) 18-3/8" to 18-5/8" considering scallop edge) closed) Approximately 37" square when opened. very fine and rare antique federal mahogany game table great shape circa 1810
for sale a very very fine early federal game table. it is in near perfect condition. it is solid and does not wiggle or wobble and the turn out leg is still as tight as the day it was made. most of my books are 25-30 years old and federal game tables not nearly as nice list in them from 2500-6000.00. i have a 2009 antique trader book that show this table and has it priced at 54.000. anyway, the avenue i have to sell anything is thru ebay which is probably the poorest market known to antique sales. it is 36 inches wide and 17.75 inches deep when the top is closed, when opened it is 36 by 35.5 inches for the game table top surface. as i said it is as tight as a fiddle string and very sturdy. it is raised on slender ring-turned and reeded legs ending in tall slender peg feet. most likely made in portsmouth, new hampshire. they used those type ... morelegs. many of the federal tables the legs are tapered square legs larger at the top and getting more narrow as one nears the floor. i have no hopes of getting 1/10 of what this table is worth on ebay, but i have so much i can not walk thru my house. antiques are a hobby only, i rarely make a penny on anything. it is my hopes to get what i paid for it a many a moon ago and that is where i am starting it. if a couple of dealers who have wealthy clients should see it and bid, i am sure it would bring 5-6K that is not apt to happen however. it may be picked up at my home or shipped at buyer's expense. good luck
