It's an extremely rare find in either size with all the original paper on the trunk. CHECK OUT OUR LISTINGS AS WE HAVE A DOLL TRUNK IN THE SAME PAPER* SEE LAST PHOTO HISTORY: In the late 1870s a large fancy round top trunk became popular. Because it was used by the wealthier people visiting the spas and racetrack at Saratoga Springs, New York. The Saratoga Trunk was a very large, domed top style with fancy trim, covered in either leather or metal. Early trunk catalogs and ads describe Saratoga trunks as a"large round top ... moreof the highest class" Round top trunks(also called humpback. Camelback. Monitor top, and barrel top) were made in a wide range of sizes and coverings. It is believed that the round tops were made for those who wanted to try to have their trunk packed on the top of baggage cars, so they would not be damaged. This trunk is in good condition. Here we have a very old 1800s horse wagon truck with 4 tiny metal wheels. all the wheels work fine. The front latch haas no key the 2 sides flap locks work right side needs a little adjusting but it will close. As you can see some one painted the black over on the side but top looks like it was not also leather handles on side look to be redone with brand new heavy duty strap handles. from left to right its 28 1/2 inches wide then front to the back its almost 15 1/2 inches long then top to bottom its around 20 inches tall. any questions please ask. Up for consideration is a beautiful humpback embossed(shell pattern) steamer trunk. The shell pattern metal is zink and was cleaned well to show original luster. All hardware and wood has been lightly sanded then sealed with a satin finish for protection. New leather handles were put on. This small antique steamer trunk has beautiful color and is in great shape for its age. It measures 26" long x 16" high x 13" wide. It weighs 26 lbs. All the metal plates are intact but one. And that I will send in a baggie and can be attached by the buyer. The inside is papered and has a beautiful decal of a lovely lady. The bottom has four rollers which all work. The oak wood slats are silky to the touch and have great patina; the tin is colored yellow on the back and sides as the photos reveal. The previous owner put dimes inside the front latches. Up for sale is this vintage or antique early 20th century humpback trunk. The front. Back and top have metal panels with a reptile skin texture. The side metal panels are smooth with a blue tint. The humpback top has wood banding. There is metal banding on the edges. It has metal one directional wheels on the bottom. There is extensive patina on the metal and wear on the wood finish. Part of the metal lid strip is missing on the front corner, and the leather handles are missing. It has 2 broken hinges and the inside shows use wear as in soiling, filth, staining. The lid on the insert is detached but is included with the trunk. It has a strong smell of moth balls. The lock does not latch and we do not have the key. However, the other 2 latches do function. She hated to part with it but had no room in her assisted living facility. It is a beautiful camel back steamer trunk in original condition. It is an amazing piece of history and an incredible antique with an awesome look. There is hardly any rust except on the bottom and very minor. It is black embossed tin with oak strips. All original ornate hardware. All latches work. But there is no key. One of the straps is broken and needs to be replaced while the other is very fragile. Antique Late 1800's Dome Top Humpback Steamer Trunk Hardwood Slats
A large hump back antique steamer trunk that dates to approximately the late 1800's. It measures 31" long X 20" wide x 27' high(at the highest point in the center of the lid) It's covered with tin and there are attractive hardwood slats that have developed a beautiful patina over the past century. The wood slats and tin are all held in place with brass tacks and very ornate hardware. The wood and metal on this trunk has taken a lot of abuse but these were made to stand up to even the roughest handling and the trunk is still basically nice and sturdy. The trunk used to be lined with paper but it's either been taken off or it's worn off over the years and now it's pretty much just down to bare wood. Which will make it easier to work with when you go to restore it prior to placing linens or blankets in it for ... morestorage. The trunk is nice in dry inside and there are no moth ball odors, just a dry dusty odor that reminds me of the attic in my grandmother's home many many years ago. If you'd like to store things inside most folks like to sand down the interior and then seal it or line it with cedar which eliminates any lingering odors.The hasps on the front do not close tightly because the lid does not fit properly. The leather handles need to be replaced and the original wood tray is missing. The bottom of the trunk has 2 plain hardwood slats running across the edges over black tin and there are 3 small metal wheels on the bottom corners(one is missing and needs to be replaced) these little metal wheels make it easy to move around on any flat hard surface. We are unsure if the lock works properly because there is no key so it will be shipped in the open position. Please view all of the photos and ask for more if needed, they are a very important part of my description. There are several sites on-line that offer free advise on how to restore antique trunks and the majority of them sell the parts you'll need. It has wheels on the bottom, has to outside latches that work fine and a center locking latch I have no key, but not all that hard to finds a key. The outside is made of wood and metal with some leather overlay and wood slates, the bottom is solid, there is no self for the inside and overall in good condition. Up for sale is a restored antique oak and tin embossed filigree humpback steamer trunk. This gorgeous trunk has its original ornate metal trim and new handles on each end. Along with a lift out handmade tray. The colors used on the filigree is off white and red- absolutely beautiful! The size of this old trunk is approximately 36 inches in length, 28" in height to hump, and 19" in width. We have tried to capture the beauty of the trunk with different angled pictures. Antique Tin Clad Humpback Steamer Trunk This fantastic old trunk measures approximately 30" x 22" x 18" and is clad in metal with wood ribbing. The exterior center section of the trunk has a highly detailed ornamental metal cladding. It has it's original hardware and carrying handles. It also has small rollers on the bottom(see photos) The interior is rough but intact. The latches work and all other hardware is intact. LOCAL PICKUP ONLY! This is an ANTIQUE VICTORIAN 1880s-EARLY 1900s-TURN OF CENTURY CAMELBACK HUMPBACK STEAMER TRUNK. This was a fabulous find! It has great ornate hardware. Trim& latch etc. It is metal with wood trim. The metal joint that holds the lid open is good and strong. It is slightly bent but still closes just fine, no issues. That’s the only issue I see. Hinges are in great shape. It is mechanically sound, very sturdy and still usable for storage and/or as a piece of furniture. The leather handles have both been replaced and are very sturdy. The trunk great antique graphics and décor on the inside. These old steamer trunks have such a great antique look! Overall the trunk is in VERY NICE condition for its age. It measures 30" x 25" x 20. Vintage Antique Tin Clad Humpback Steamer Trunk Floral Pattern
You're bidding on a lovely antique tin clad humpback steamer trunk that measures 32x19x18" and is about 20" at the top of the hump. It has the original stamped floral pattern tin on the outside and a removable tray on the inside with an extra divider slat- we've looked and looked but can't figure out where that goes. If you look closely at the top you can see the original blue and gold coloring of the tin that contrasts with the red on the sides and back. It is missing the lower half of the left latch on the front(see pictures) The interior is in decent condition. No sign/smell of mold or mildew despite the stains on the tray- it is as dry as a bone. Overall a fine piece with great character in good vintage condition. Please ask any questions before bidding. Antique Paper/Wood Dolls Steamer Trunk, Humpback/Dome Type, Circa 1900
This Antique Doll's Steamer trunk. Made of wood and paper wrapped is a humpback or dome type. It is a miniature of a dolls cloths trunk. The Trunk size is 7" long X 5" wide X 4 1/2" tall. It has a front metal latch that is complete at the top, not the bottom. The back hidges are complete and working. This paper exterior does show some wear at the bottom and on the corner on the right side. Also some wear at the top curves, left and right. There is a bit of wear at the top center. There is age discoloration, but this adds to the warmth and beauty of this piece. This trunk does not include a inside tray, but has the bracket for one. THIS TRUNK IS 36" WIDE 17" DEEP AND 21" TALL TO THE TOP OF THE HUMP IT IS IN AMAZING CONDITION. IT AS THE ORIGINAL LEATHER HANDLES. THE FLORAL TIN IS IN WONDERFUL CONDITION. IT HAS THE ORIGINAL INSERT. ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUNK THERE ARE TINY METAL WHEELS. THE LOCKS AND HINGES ARE COMPLETE AND WORKING. ON THE METAL PART OF THE HANDLES THERE IS A STAR PATTERN HARDWARE THAT HOLD THE HANDLES IN PLACE. THE WOOD IS IN GREAT SHAPE AS WELL.
