With the two wide drop leaves folding down to leave a 20 inch deep by 42 inch wide top. Open, the oval top measures 42 inches at the widest point to 58 inches at the longest point. It stands 28 inches high. The entire table is hard, solid oak stained a dark walnut color. The Jacobean design of the twisted legs adds interest. This is an oversized walnut or possibly mahogany solid wood gate-leg drop-leaf oval table. Which is most unusually oversized, that probably ... moredates from the Victorian era, 1870s to 1890s or so. It has hand-cut dovetails on both lipped drawers on both ends. We brought it in and had to replace a couple of broken spindles on the bottom frame. It had been refinished previously, and our cabinet man Norm put a coat of satin sheen lacquer on top of the existing finish. It measures 54 inches long, and when the 22-inch leaves are flipped up, it becomes 65 inches wide, 54 inches deep, and 30 inches tall. When the leaves and gate-leg braces are down, it becomes a sofa table measuring 23 inches wide. Look at the many turned spindles on the base, hand-cut dovetail drawers, raised panel, with the original period hardware. Antique gate leg table. This was an antique when my parent's bought it in the 50's and I believe it is from the 1800's. It has simple. Clean lines and one I found with similar shape was called"Country Federal" but people on line tend to make up what ever suits them. It has not been refinished and does not have any varnish or other type of coating on it. The top appears lighter than the sides- probably faded from light. It measures 26 3/4" high x 42 1/2" long by 15" wide when closed. It has one drawer in the end.

Circa 1890 Barley twist See condition report in main description Oak Hand carved edge, While most of the gate leg tables we come across are from the early to mid 20th century. Occasionally we find an older one like this Victorian period antique gate leg table. It was made in England around the year 1890 and has survived in very good condition. Some of the clues that provide us with the approximate age of this drop leaf table are the hand carved edge. The fact it is ebonzied, and the straight cut edges where the drop ... moreleaves meet the center section. The hand carved edge is a common motif from Victorian period furniture. Much of England ebonized(stained black) their furniture after the death of Queen Victoria. Gate legs from the 1900′s tend to have an ogee edge where the leaves fold up and older tables have a straight edge. While still in very good and sturdy condition there are a few cosmetic issues to point out. First there is minor general wear throughout in the form of tiny dings. These serve to provide the table with character. There is a small crack to one of the barley twist legs. Which does not go all the way through. Finally on one leaf is an age separation where two boards are joined. This is a common, natural phenomenon that occurs with solid wood furniture. Beautiful gate leg table made by Jacob Seiders of Schaefferstown. PA, circa 1848. Made of'scrap' applewood by Seiders. The table is 29" tall, opens to 40" by 30" when open. Beautifully turned legs as shown. The leaves on either side are not the same width- probably due to the scrap nature of the apple tree wood. Purchased from Mr. Seiders elderly granddaughter. Antique Vintage Walnut Drop-Leaf Gate Leg Hall Dining Table Ellipse
This auction is for a lovely antique gate leg table. The table is made of walnut although the finish has a nice antique mahogany appearance to it. The table was made with excellent craftsmanship and is very sturdy. It's 8 Legs are held together with 24 hand-carved mortise and tenon joints. The table measures 29.5" tall. 36" long, and 16.5" wide with the leafs folded down. The leafs hinge up and two pairs of legs swing out to reveal an elliptical table top measuring 47.75" in length, 36" in width. This feature makes this table very versatile, as it functional as a hall table or behind a sofa, but can easily be set up as a parlor game table or extra dining table for when extra company comes over. This is an early American(circa 1870s) cherry dropleaf gateleg table- the gate legs fold closed and leaves drop. Table measures 18 1/2 inches by 43 inches when closed. Each extra leg swings out to allow leaves to extend. Measures 61 inches wide when open. This table is in excellent condition for its age- some scratches in one area. There is overall normal surface wear commensurate with age and use, including plenty of dings and scratches found commonly on antique furniture. 1800s Dining Table hardwood gate leg drop leaf swing leg
We are ready to sell this historic. Hardwood, 1800's dining table. Still sturdy and classic after all these years. Has the drop leaf on each side and then swing legs(gate legs) to support sides to provide full size dining options. Also nice with the drop sides down and table up against the wall. Hope the photos are helpful the table is 28 1/2 inches high and 53 inches long. Across the top with leafs down, it is about 22 inches and each side leaf is 16 inches, so when table is full open it is 54 inches across. Some nice carving on the support legs. Some antique wear marks and some repair that seems probably to be from way back as well. When we got this table we were told that the table was in use at the Civil War era, and research online lends us to believe it may be from much earlier in the 1800s. I have never seen a table with this much inlay. This is truly a rare one. The floral inlay is just remarkable. The pictures do not do this table justice. Antique/Vintage Georgian Style Drop Leaf Gate Leg Table w/ Turned legs Mahogany
For your consideration is this classic gate leg table. It is probably English. Turn of last century, and is solid mahogany. The top has a wonderful ribbon graining. And it is versatile as well as beautiful. With a height of 30" it can function as a dining table, a desk, a sofa table or even an end table. It can be compact(13" x 30" x 30"high in its closed position) or largish(30" x 42" x 30"high fully open. If you look at the last photo, you'll see how I used it next to a sofa in a very eclectic design. It was professionally refinished several years ago. And does show some signs of age, but overall is in beautiful condition with very minimal scratches or dings. It does have one dent on the top(about the size of a penny) that I attempted to photograph(see next to last photo.
