Very nice early secretary or Butler's Pantry measures approximately 81" H x 43" W x 21" D. Upper cabinet measures 38" W X 40" H x 10.5" D with 3 removable shelves. Bottom cabinet is 40" W x 18" H x 18.5" D with 1 shelf. Top drawer pulls out to reveal felt desk writing section. This section slides back to reveal hidden storage in the drawer. With provenance, from Greenwich, CT. featuring matchbook flame mahogany throughout, with numerous drawers, a fold out leather top writing area, a secret compartment underneath, two paneled doors below with cabinet space, and original bracket feet and casters. The doors have old wavy glass which are hand glazed, and the 2 piece secretary is in excellent condition. At some point in the past, someone replaced the original shelf supports with the newer metal tracks. One can only guess what possessed them to do this. In amazing original condition, this is a beautiful flame mahogany flip top empire secretary bookcase desk. Look ... moreat the flame mahogany that these cabinet makers used back before the Civil War, and it’s obvious that they were very talented. There is matched flame mahogany veneer across the hand-cut dovetail drawers and the flip down lid. It has the big, wide molded crown molded top, arched gallery center face with flame mahogany all over, and the individually paned doors with some of the original glass still in them, and the double shelf interior. There are two hand cut dovetail drawers underneath the glass doors, and it comes down into a base with a flip-top lid on which we have redone the felt with antique red. The three hand-cut dovetail drawers come down into a scrolled empire legged base. The glass has been replaced in two of the sections for sure, and maybe some other places. You can see some of the triangular points that holds the glass panes in. The cabinet is in great condition, with some wear marks on the sides, and they can be refinished easily. The overall size is 40 inches wide, 22 inches deep, 34 inches to the cabinet top, and 78 inches to the very top and comes apart in two sections. First. The pictures do not do justice to this beautiful piece of work. It's an Empire period Flame Mahogany Secretary with a 2-Door bookcase above and single drawer below. This piece was estimated to have been made in the middle 1800's and is in remarkable condition. The inside 2 drawers are hand dove-tailed. The bottom wide drawer is hand dove-tailed as well. The bead work along the front doors and along the top is in excellent condition and beautifully done. This great piece of furniture shows signs of age as you can see in the close up picture of the zipper-like crackle in the veneer along the side, but, there is no separation. The desk measures 80" at the peak, is 39" wide and is mounted on 4 turned legs. The depth at the top is 11" and is 18-1/2" for the drawer section. One picture shows the top of the piece ... moreand another shows the 4 separate boards which form the back. Those individual board widths measure 12" 12" 19" 8" There is a'hook' latch along the side that holds the writing platform in an upright position. This listing is for local pickup only. 1789-1823 ANTIQUE AMERICAN FEDERAL FLAME MAHOGANY SECRETARY BOOKCASE EXCELLENT We rarely characterize one of our antiques as“important. but this truly outstanding approximately 200 year old piece from the American Federal period is the exception. It consists of separate upper and lower cases with a fold over slanted writing surface with the following features& characteristics: The outstanding mahogany finish with crotch mahogany veneer is in excellent condition. Viewed from front or sides. The entire piece has a stunning, rich and warm patina. The upper bookcase and desk features a handsome projecting molded crown/cornice with a flat top. The double glazed panel bookcase doors feature individually paned window glass. All but two of these beautiful old wavy glass panes are original. The two(which were cracked) have been replaced with wavy ... moreold glass of the same period. Three wood shelves. Original to the piece, are fitted inside the bookcase. These. Plus the bottom of the book cabinet provide four display and storage surfaces for books and collectibles. Each of the 3 shelves is 39.25” wide and approximately 7.25” deep. There are two shallow. Aligned drawers immediately beneath the bookcase and above the desk surface. Please note the photo attached showing their hand cut dovetailed joints. The original brass knobs are sized in proportion with the drawers and match the larger version of the same on the lower case drawers. Immediately beneath the two drawers. The surface unfolds to reveal a slanted, hinged fall-front writing surface. Two pull-out. Brass-ringed narrow lopers(wood supports) slide out to secure the desk top when open. The surface of the desk is original and has crackled with age. The lower case features a projecting long drawer above two recessed drawers. Here is an terrific mid-late 19th century flame mahogany column step back secretary with fold out desk. Turned legs and glass door bookcase or storage& display cabinet above and three large functional bureau drawers below. I've detailed the restoration work this lovely piece will need to bring it back to it's former full value in my detailed description of condition above and in my multiple photographs included to accurately represent the design, quality, condition and construction as well as the overall beauty and potential of this marvelous old piece of mahogany furniture bargain priced as a restoration project. It has had a few small professional repairs to the veneer previously. This wonderful cabinet travels easily in two pieces and stands 68 1/2 inches tall by 42 1/2 inches wide and 20 inches deep front to back. The top ... morebookcase section measures 33 1/2 inches tall by 42 1/2 inches wide at the bonnet by 12 3/4 inches deep front to back. It has 12 panes of glass in it's upper cabinet doors and three small drawers run across the bottom within the top cabinet just below the two display shelves. The bottom bureau section measures 36 inches tall with a 35 inch tall flat surface height when the desk is closed and a 3/4 inch recessed space along the back for the upper bookcase to rest in. The base is 42 1/2 inches wide and 20 inches deep front to back and had three drawers. Inside the top bookcase the cabinet measures 25 1/2 inches wide by 8 1/2 inches deep and 28 inches tall. Divided by a shelf with 12 inches clarance below the shelf and 15 inches clearance above the shelf. Below the shelves but inside the cabinet doors are three small beautifully hand dovetailed drawers, 11 1/4 wide by 5 3/4 inch front to back by 2 3/4 inch deep with the center drawer of the three actually being only 11 inches wide. The desk top writing surface when open has a surface height of 33 1/2 inches and measures a nice large 39 3/4 inches wide by 14 3/4 inches front to back with pull out supports on both sides to support
