Antique Architectural Soapstone Carving Pillar Column Greek Greco Roman Rome Art
Not sure exactly what this is. But I love it. It appears to be a soapstone relief carving of a pillar or column top. I know there are technological names for these column parts, but I am unfortunately ignorant of them. It may even be some kind of wax molding in a wax that I am unfamiliar with, but I am a stonemason and pretty sure it is soapstone. I can scratch it with my fingernail, but barely and only with a great application of force. Judging by the age of the wooden encasement and the type of metal hardware used to hold it together, I am assuming it is quite old, possibly 19th Century, and by the amount of artistry and effort expended in the relief, that it a representation of a famous or important piece of architecture, possibly Greek or Roman. Is a matching green marble column with cast brass corinthian top. The fount is a complementary green baccarat olive cut glass, and is of matching proportions. Height to top of burner is 64cms. Just over 25 inches. Fount is approx 6 inches diameter, and base is 5&1/4 nches square. Cast brass base with a cast iron weight inside. With a marble plinth, then a cast brass plate and column base. Column has a subtle curved taper to it and is topped with a truly superb cast corinthian top. The fount has a traditional brass undermount which screws firmly into the socket in the column top. The 18" long supports are cast with a style number"2911" on the side. The supports are good and solid and can double as a log support within the fireplace. They hook securely into the andiron front and complete the shield cast underneath the column. No cracks only very light surface rust on support arms only. Hi for sale I have only two left Antique architectural salvaged wood carved porch Columns or pilllars. I believe the wood is pine. They are painted white and have a chippy patina. 2 soild ~4 sided pieces. Photos 1- 7 show the full piece columns. 8-12 show the 1/2 columns. The second photo shows how I have used a pair in my home. I added hang hood and heavy wire to the back of the columns. I then added a heavy phto hook to my wall, then I hung the columns to the wall. I have 2(1/2) SOLD, the 1/2 are sold. I am listing a antique Waterbury Mantle clock. Which has 4 colums 2 lions head's ornate cast iron feet and decorative roses on the front. The clock has 3 functions bell ding for the half hour, gong on the hour and time set. The case is in very good condition no splits cracks or chips along with the glass bezel no cracks good hinge, the clock does not tick, when I turn the hands manually it gongs on the correct time and it does ding on the half hour, I do not have the key. It appears to have a paper dial with a protective plastic type covering which most of it is missing. Roman. Ornate Bronze Column Krater Handle, 1st- 2nd Century A.D. We are pleased to offer Alex G. Malloy's personal collection of Roman antiquities. Mr. Malloy. Now retired but consulting for Forum, was a dealer in antiquities for 40 years. We hope you find a few nice pieces here to enhance your collection. From the collection of Alex G. Malloy. Former dealer in antiquities for 40 years. The column krater vessel form. Somewhat similar to a modern punch bowl, is named for its typically column like handles. This handle perfectly fits the'column-like' description. The two curved Corinthian style column-like parts of the handle have floral ornamented bases which were attached to the vessel's shoulder. The'columns' are topped with capital-like acanthus leaves ornamentation. The'capitals' attach to a horizontal entablature-like ... morepart of the handle, which connects the two'columns' and completes the handle. The'entablature' is decorated with a reapeating pattern of tounge shaped dentils. The'entablature' was also attached to the flat everted rim of the Krater's mouth, and was the part the that was held by the fingers. A picture is worth a thousand words, so we suggest also looking a the photo of the column krater in NumisWiki(click the word krater) The Greeks and the Romans usually drank wine diluted with water. The term'krater' comes from the Greek verb meaning'to mix. and the vessels were used for mixing wine and water. The body of a bronze krater was very thin bronze. So few survive today. Hello and welcome to our auction! We are offering this Great Antique E. Ingraham Mantle clock! Sorry we do not know a lot about clocks. But did our best to research and write title and write title as to guess what this clock might be. We were not the original owners of clock. Since we do not have a lot of knowledge about clocks. We never attempted to get the clock working. We are not sure what might need to be done with adjustments, parts etc. It has a beautiful look with intricate detailing. Such as uniquely etched brass side handles and legs, marble swirl design painted on wood pillars and etched design around clock face. The clock measures about 17" x 6" from the base lets and 11 14/ inches tall. The clock seems to be in good condition for how old it is. But it does have some flaws including the back wood panel being repaired, ... moreand a little chip by one of the back legs. A few of the legs needs tightened(believe all you need is little nail etc. On the clocks' face it appears as if there is some very light pencil marks. Other than this, only minor flaws and ware. This is a riser/ steering column from a Rotator Pursuit recumbent bike made of titanium. It weighs 220 grams on my wife's Weight Watcher electronic food scale and is in excellent used condition. The lower two-bolt tube tightens around a 1& 1/8" diameter fork steerer tube. The one-bolt longer main tube accepts either 25.4mm external diameter stem/ handlebar tube or a 22.2 mm diameter tube with an included aluminum shim. My Rotator Pursuit bike came with two different risers: a pivoting one with a quick release. And this non-pivoting(but lighter) one. I prefer the heavier pivoting riser, so this one does not get used. Perhaps it would appeal to you. Rotator Recumbents unfortunately had to close its doors about four years ago, so this riser in titanium is not something you are likely to see on eBay again. Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. 2 1760s ENGLISH STERLING DECORATIVE COLUMN CANDLESTICKS Presented is a stunning and large pair of English sterling silver table candlesticks made during the 1760s-80s. Both pieces bear a makers mark IC. Which we believe are for either John Carter II or John Cramer, both of London. There are no other hallmarks on the pieces, we believe the maker of the candlesticks was certainly dodging the English duties and therefore they were never hallmarked with the usual government lion passant for sterling silver or the leopards head for London. The pair is in a neat, rounded panel column form with large, ruffled bases. The bases are designed with gadrooned borders and high relief leaf and scroll decorations. The top portions of the shafts are done with a fabulous repeating leaf ... moreembellishment. The bobeches or wax drips are original to the pieces are are also decorative. Each candlestick and bobeche is marked IC. We believe this is for John Carter II or John Cramer, probably from the 1760s. Almost certainly from the third quarter of the 1700s. This set is in very good overall condition for its age. There is wear to the banded portions on the shafts of both sticks. As you can see in the photographs below. The filler has pushed the underside of one of the bases out slightly but this is hardly noticeable. There are no missing pieces, no dents, no breaks, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals and no repairs. Each base measures 6 1/8 inches in diameter and each one measures 11 7/8 inches tall. This is an Antique 1850's Seth Thomas 30hr weight driven Gilt Column Mantle or shelf Clock in FANTASTIC CONDITION. It has both original weights and winder which are appropriate for the time and style clock. It has the original glass(very wavy) and the old zinc dial shows VERY little wear and great paint still. The reverse painting on the bottom glass of the yellow bird and flowers is in near mint cond. as you can see( VERY RARE) The case is a beautiful mahogany veneer with. Miraculously, only a couple VERY small chips at the base of the door(very common) barely noticeable. The label inside is in great shape as well and is still perfectly legible. Though the works look to be in good order. Therefore I am selling it as found. It measures 24-3/4” tall. By 15-1/8” wide, and 4-3/8” deep. The case is in nice condition. And I believe it to have its original finish. There is some veneer loss on the top band. But this is mainly on the sides and is not all that noticeable. The clock has mahogany veneer with a tiger maple veneer door. The top glass is original. The bottom glass has most likely been replaced as someone has put a print of ships behind it. For sale is a Louis XVI portico clock set. The maker is Marti and it recieved the Medal of Honor in 1900. The base material is white polished marble with streaks of dark grey and amber. The clock and urns are decorated with ormolu. The clock face is porcelain with Arabic numerals and a delicate hand painted floral pattern around the numerals. The hands are ornate French hands. The urns are teardrop shaped on a round pedestal. The movement is an 8 day movement(wind it once a week) The clock rings on a sweet French bell on the hour and half hour. The clock has been cleaned.
