Antique Period American Solid Tiger Maple Candlestand NR
This auction is for an antique solid tiger maple American candle stand. It measures 27 1/4 inches high and top measures 16 1/2 inches by 17 1/2 inches. The spread on the Queen Anne/snake feet is 22 inches. The top is a thin 1/2 inch thick. I think this is a period piece and have enjoyed it for many years. There is some wear on top surface. It has sewing bird marks on underside and you can feel that it was hand planed. Please look at pictures and ask questions before bidding. Check out my feedback and bid with confidence. SAILOR MADE ANTIQUE MARTHA'S VINEYARD CANDLESTAND WITH INLAID TOP,
This unique antique candlestand was found in Martha's Vineyard. It is believed to be sailor made and its nautical heritage can be seen in the use of whale bone. Baleen and ebony in the inlay framed with curly maple, and in the acorn drop of the elegantly turned stem. It is crafted from walnut with a soft rich patina and is crowned with a crenulated gallery top. It measures 18"wide, 13"deep and 26.5" inches high and weighs 5 lbs. There is an old repair to the stem as shown in one of the photographs, but this does not affect the stability of the stand. There is a crack in the inlay and 3 small cracks in the gallery top, but they have been repaired and do not affect the stand's appearance.

From the beautiful mahogany top to the graceful lines and solid strong pad feet with delightful pedestal design. Pictures do it no justice. The wood is a bit darker than the pictures due to the flash. It truly is in wonderful condition. My restorer cleaned up the wood and it looks marvelous and professionally done.this table deserved it. We all like antiques. but they must be beautifully restored and not dirty and ancient looking when they are of this style. It is okay for old trunks, but not period elegant pieces. OUR CANDLE TABLE TAKES A STAND! Presented here is a genuine antique Queen Anne American made early Candlestand in the tilt top snake foot style so fashionably conscious in the candle power era of the country when light was a precious resource after sunset. Enter the Candlestand into the home and hearth at the ready! The 17.25" round diameter mahogany flip top rests upon a long elegant turned single bracelet. Lower urn shaft typical of the period in simple design, ending in trifid snake feet with padded bottoms all in the same dark West Indian mahogany that was imported for use in the colonial cabinet making shops. The age most certainly is 18th mid century, and no later in period form than 1810 or so when clunkier Sheraton styles in lighter maple crept into style as towns grew along with demand for household furniture. The legs are properly ... moredovetailed into the shaft with a reinforcing iron bar that prevents leg breakage and splits over time, and retains the original fancy hold down clip. It stands 28" tall easily moveable around a room to follow the sunlight until darkness necessitates using a single candle atop. Nice old mellow patina as original and found from a Mid Atlantic estate farmhouse. Condition Report: Two tiny dings in top. Slight crooked tilt to upright top with age shrinkage. Slight finish peel on upright shaft of old shellac. Shellac is actually made from a bug.it lasts only 100 years before it begins to peel on old surfaces. All original parts. No refinish. High bidder acknowledges this is not new. Cherry Federal Candlestand Conn river valley circa 1810. hockey-stick leg
You are bidding on a wonderful early Connecticut River Valley cherry candle stand. Often mistaken for Victorian or even Art Deco. These scarce pieces were only made for about 20 years around Hartford, Conn. This particular candle stand is made of cherry with a pine cleat. It appears to be all original even retaining the tiny triangular glue blocks under the small circle that joins the legs. Underneath the 16 ¾” inlaid dish top is a small dovetailed draw for holding ... morecandles. I guarantee that this draw and top are original to this circa 1810 Candlestand. Another unusual feature. Which I guarantee is original is the brass collar which allows you to adjust the table height from 28 ¾” to 36 ¾” Although this feature is very unique it is guaranteed to be original to this Candlestand. The bottom has a classic vase and ring turning and the carved legs end in Spade Feet. The 6” diameter inlaid fan top has several very old replaced inlays. There also is some restoration to the thin inlaid border. There is a very old, tight shrinkage crack. Underneath, are the original brass hinges and latch and the small brass knob on the finely dovetailed draw are original. The only other problem with this rare adjustable candle stand is a strong repair to one leg. There are no other problems with this Rare Tit-Top Candlestand. We are listing it without any reserve. Authentic circa 1820 period antique table with chamfered octagonal top. Bold turnings and spider legs. The epitome of late federal period style. I think it is cherry but am not 100% sure. Some worm holes, darker spots etc.simply a gorgeous hand picked piece of wood Entire table is solid maple.no veneers It was pure joy to restore this wonderful piece of American history.this was in rough shape ... morewhen I acquired it(it had some very poorly done restoration attempts on the loose wobbly legs& repairs/crack to the pedestal by the legs) I restored it to full glory after a meticulous restoration respecting it as a fine antique Notice the legs are joined to the pedestal with"sliding dovetails" all hand cut. This is a sign of high quality craftsmanship I love the stunning tiger graining on the hand turned pedestal.note also the very fine rings on the hand turned pedestal. Another show of the finest craftsmanship by the maker You will notice the excellent oxidation of the underside of the top. The underside of the top was hand planed. There is a small cosmetic hairline crack in the plank edge that secures the top to the pedestal All 3 legs display outstanding tiger graining. Second to none I love the shape of the legs. Fantastic looking I restored the finish entirely by hand with many coats of hand rubbed varnish which showcases the wood grains. Nice old 19thC tole-style paint decoration with nice landscape scene on top with buildings and people. And flower and gilt designs around border. Also lovely gilt decoration on column and legs. Table top is 17-7/16" wide at it's widest. Table is 26-5/8" high with the top down flat. The table top latches fine when down. The entire top column section also revolves on tripod base nicely. There are some scrape and wear spots to the surface and decoration on the top with worst spots in bottom area and a scrape line to surface in top half.
