It measures 36 inches long by 24 in ches tall with the lid closed by 20 inches deep. It features a remova ble storage tray and more linens. Beddings. And clothing can be placed underne ath for conv enient additional hu ge storage. It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. So you may want to grab it quick, before it is gone! Note: Not shipping overseas nor to Alaska on this one. Only to domestic United States. With something this old you'll have to read the pictures to gather your own information. It's structurally sound inside and out. No rotting! The paper and artwork inside are still fully intact. It has a few dings here and there but would be an absolute simple restoration. All parts are original. There is a barely visible engraving on some of the latches that read" PAT. DEC.23.7" The leather handle strap on the left side is missing and the main latch is bent a little bit. But other than that its fully useable. For your consideration. This rare large(interior 36"L x 21"W x 29"D) 36"H, including lid, old(1880's) barrel stave top style Saratoga trunk with metal edge binding and trim, original working double hasp brass lock and iron latches. It has five hardwood slats across the top and two across the front, rear and both sides. Trunk body is thick pine and was probably covered in leather when new. The original working lock with spring loaded key cover and barrel key were made by Star Lock Works of Philadelphia. Ornamental cast metal clamps on the slat ends as well as the cast iron latches on the front were patented by Charles Taylor in 1877& 1878. Here is an awesome opportunity. They don't come any better than this because they are in museums. I bought this from a 96 year old lady whose family has owned it since its birth. She hated to part with it but had no room in her assisted living facility. It is a beautiful camel back steamer trunk in original condition. It is an amazing piece of history and an incredible antique with an awesome look. There is hardly any rust except on the bottom and very minor. The original lining is still there and is made of paper. The leather handles are still there and in good shape. The paper lithographs are in good shape. This is one amazing trunk. 1870s original camelback trunk with the original wooden tray! It's black in color and the leather is still somewhat intact for 150 years old. The hinges and locks are all still in tact. There is no keys however. The trunk measures approx. 38"x18" The pictures tell a good story! There is half of the original label on the lid that is still in tact. Doesn't say much. OK. So.this is an awesome, small size camelback trunk. It does look like a"Pirate's" chest to me. Major rust and wood issues.I began to"restore" this but it was beyond my tools and skill set. I did remove the flowered paper from the inside from a previous restoration. I have cleaned it. Taken some rust off with grinding wheels, etc. It is a project but a worthy one! Look up restored trunks and you will see a nice return for a good effort. This one is absolutely unique with many"bells" and whistles in ornamentation. Check out the pics. Antique Trunk - Camelback, humpback 1870s - perfect for restoration - LARGE
This a is beautiful old 1870's camelback tin/wooden trunk that has not appeared to have been restored. Everything looks to be in the original condition. One latch in the back is still attached. The other one is not attached together but still on the trunk. The leather handles are not attached. There is even a bonus braid of old long hair in the trunk. It is obvious, on the pictures and in person, where trunk is coming apart, but appears to be easy enough to fix. The lock has a marking of"PAT" MAR 69" with some other letters"A? see picture) The latches on the front have a nice bird figure, the leather attachments on the side look to have a starburst type design, and the original paper border is on the inside with the pictures. No names appear to be written anywhere. All four wheels are on the bottom and work. This trunk ... morejust needs some TLC to be a beautiful piece once again. Vintage Industrial Antique Dome Top Camelback Victorian Steamer Trunk Footlocker
This old steamer trunk has plenty of character on the outside and a nice interior. There is a large white paint stain down the front. The leather handles are broken, it is missing a stamped metal flourish, and there is general patina of age and wear and tear. That said, though, there is a beautiful hunting scene inside the lid and an interior that is surprisingly nice in relation to the outside. There are still some rips and splits in the interior lining, but it is almost entirely there. There is some mothball odor, but not unpleasant. The trunk measures 32 1/2" L x 16" W x 18" H. The trunk is 30 1/2" x 15" inside, with slats along either end to support a tray(not included) It measures 12 1/2" to the lip of the opening inside with 4 1/2" of clearance under the lid.
