Beautiful Oak Butlers Desk from the middle of last century(1840's to 1870's) Nice condition with some minor issues that you would expect from being used over the last century and a half. Oak is the main wood with Walnut and Birds Eye Maple as the secondary(drawer fronts and desk top) Needs a cleaning and a light touch up but otherwise a great desk that would make a statement in your home! Scuffing along the bottom where the shoes would be as you sat there and one spot on the top(picture 11) Light scratching along the front and top as normal wear would occur. The fronts and top are stripped mahogany veneers, the top drop front with oval string inlay. The sides are sold mahogany. The cubbyhole is missing four brass knobs, and key to center door. All drawer locks are present. Veneer trim missing from the end sides of the top board, mahogany repair plugs on front case above the locks on three drawers. Shrinkage vertical crack to the left side board, and shorter vertical crack on the right side board, short crack to thr right front corner on the top board.

Early 19 Century 6 Drawer Butlers Desk Chest Estate Find !
Walnut/ Chestnut Butlers Desk. This fine desk features 6 drawers The desk portion is framed and has 5 drawers and cubbyholes for great organization. Green felt is missing on the writing surface. Under the desk are three large drawers with 2 small ones above and flanked on either side by full carved columns. Hand dovetailed and pegged this beautiful desk is solid. Sturdy and in nice original condition to be almost 200 years old. It is ready to be used and loved for many generation to come. Measurements: 50 inches high 45 1/2 inches wide 20 3/4 inches deep~~~46 inches deep with desk extended. Please view all pictures as part of the description. During the late Georgian period. The mahogany, which is protected by a fine coat of hand-rubbed wax, displays a rich complexion and a striking grain that are sure to complement any setting. Solid brass swan ... moreneck pulls, which were popular during the Georgian period, adorn the drawer fronts, while dental moulding and individually paned glass grace the bookcase section. The fretwork on the glass is unusual and attractive. In total, this bureau contains four main drawers, three fully adjustable shelves, ten interior(desk) shelves, one interior(desk) cabinet, and four desk cubbyholes. The desk itself features a wonderful writing surface of brown leather with gold tooling. The bookcase section secures to the bureau with four screws. When open the desk section measures 38″ wide x 21.5″ deep and is 31″ from the floor. In the bookcase section the shelves have a depth of 9.75″ In general this antique bureau bookcase is quite sturdy and remains in very good condition. Inside the fall. The leather is split at the hinge. The fall itself has a key which works the lock but the lock does not engage and therefore the fall doesn’t lock. We feel the fall was replaced at some point in the piece’s life. There is a small spot of damage on the cornice at the very back left corner. 1870-1900 Beautifully Detailed Hardwood Side lock Butlers Chest/Desk Dresser
Listed for sale is this beautiful hardwood side locking Butlers Chest/Desk made from 1870-1900. This chest has five drawers with knapp joints and wood burl accents. The top drawer a little fancier with a hand carved design. The second drawer pulls out and the front flips down to reveal a desk with two small drawers(one missing its pull knob) and an original red felt writing area. The edges of the writing desk have a wheel with a flower carved into the wood. Above the top drawer is a scalloped design and down the sides of all the drawers are two hand carved colums. The left colum closes over the drawer ends to lock them how ever there is no key! Each drawer has two beaufurl brass pull handles featuring a cottage and trees.
