Description: This listing is for an English Regency Period Tilting Mahogany Breakfast Table. C. 1800-25. It features an incredible dark mahogany top of extremely wide proportions, using two boards to span the total depth of 36 1/4" the first board is 31 1/4" wide, the second 5" To simply imagine how large the tree used to make this board would have been is astounding, and to capture the most beautiful compact grains as found in this board is admirable. The surface is heavily polished over an early finish, both with a wonderful original patina throughout. The edge of the table top is reeded, completing the design of the top with clean lines. It is a tilting top, allowing it to be stored easily, usually in the corner ... moreof a room in a way that is visually delightful, the third leg pointing into the corner with the board facing the room. A stretched frame beneath the table forms a box of the crossbars, locking together using through-tenon joinery. Original screws lock this undisturbed frame to the underside of the table, holding the wooden dowels from the pedestal inside for a smooth rotation. Original undisturbed brass catch hardware remains functional beneath the table to lock the table in a rested position. The base of the pedestal is oak over pine, with the pedestal tenoned through both, the front with a pair of original brass receivers with what appear to be original screws. A wonderful turned pedestal of solid mahogany is designed with a short shaft over three tight turned rings over baluster turnings before flowing into sabre-legs. Each leg is capped with brass hardware, each with original screws over large original caster wheels. The legs of the table are locked in place with a Y bracket, flowing along each leg and into the center to give a high pressure joint flawless strength even 200 years after introduction. Antique Ebony and Wood Dining/Breakfast Table and Chairs
Bought at Christie's Auction approx 8 years ago. The table has an oval top with central ebony reserve and radially veneered with rosewood. Mahogany and other exotic fruitwood. It sits above 4 fluted columnar uprights on a base supported by 4 splayed legs with brass lion paw caps and casters. The table measures 31 inches high, 59 inches wide and 41 3/4 in deep. The 4 chairs were purchased separately. They have a mahogany frame are upholstered with a light tan soft seagrass fabric. The upholstery is finished with brass bolts. Chair measures 38" from floor to top of back height, 19.5 in from floor to top of seat, 21" depth of seat and 21.5" across seat.

An American Empire dropleaf breakfast, dining or sofa table has a pedestal with classical acanthus and lion paw motifs. The lustrous deep finish is in excellent condition with warm antique patina. Single wide boards have beautiful grain and a little warping from age. See photos. The apron has brass inlaid banding on this historic American made furniture. C. 1815-25 Item# 120001NHP01 This fine table features a wonderful well patinated dark mahogany surface under many layers of later wax. The mellow hues very attractive on the solid mahogany top. An old and dense tree was used for this table top, the whole surface shaped from two planks to span the total depth of 36 1/4" the first board is 31 1/4" wide, the second 5" The edge of the table top is reeded of the solid, completing the design of the top with clean lines that flow harmoniously with that of the legs. It is a tilting top, allowing it to be stored easily, usually in the corner of a room in a way that is visually delightful, the ... morethird leg pointing into the corner with the board facing the room. A stretched frame beneath the table forms a box of the crossbars, locking together using through-tenon joinery. Original screws lock this undisturbed frame to the underside of the table, holding the wooden dowels from the pedestal inside for a smooth rotation. Original undisturbed brass catch hardware remains functional beneath the table to lock the table in a rested position. The base of the pedestal is oak over pine, with the pedestal tenoned through both, the front with a pair of original brass receivers with what appear to be original screws. A wonderful turned pedestal of solid mahogany is designed with a short shaft over three tight turned rings over baluster turnings before flowing into sabre-legs. Each leg is capped with brass hardware, each with original screws over large original caster wheels. The legs of the table are locked in place with a Y bracket, flowing along each leg and into the center to give a high pressure joint flawless strength even 200 years after introduction.
